Meet Burbank’s new city manager Aug. 1 The City of Burbank will hold a reception welcoming Mark Scott as City Manager. Police declared an unlawful assembly in South Los Angeles before 10 p.m. Monday after a group of demonstrators protesting the acquittal of George Zimmerman allegedly committed assault, vandalized businesses and jumped on stopped cars. One eyewitness said it was “eerily like the post Rodney King trial that started the 1992 LA Riots.” Meanwhile, most incidents have thus far been somewhat isolated. There were over a dozen arrests Monday night, one for “inciting a riot” and 13 for failure to disperse upon orders of LAPD. Six of those arrested were juveniles . Political discourse is anything but virtual at Gatto’s online town hall Dozens of local residents clambered into the virtual auditorium created by Assemblyman Gatto on July 10 to ask the Assemblyman questions about the community, legislation, and even a few on his personal interests and perspectives. The event, billed as a "NoTraffic Town-Hall Chat," was the first online event of its kind for Assemblyman Gatto, and inspired participation from constituents throughout the district. Gatto answered twentyseven questions from about fifty people in one hour, or

about one question every two minutes. “I believe in being as accessible as possible,” said Gatto. “The Internet allows modern town-hall meetings to be available to everyone, including those who have work or childcare obligations that make it difficult to attend a traditional town hall. Monterey Park Police Investigators identified and arrested a woman suspected of multiple incidents of credit card fraud, burglary, and grand theft. Si H. Liu, also known as “Katie,” was arrested Friday, July 12, at her home in La Puente. Liu represents herself as a real estate agent and may own a massage business in the city of Fullerton. Liu speaks Mandarin Chinese and has been a U.S. resident for about 10 years. Investigators have linked her to at least sixteen victims in the San Gabriel Valley and the investigation continues to grow. Victims contacted Liu after reading her advertisements for easy loans in Approximately 100 people marched the streets of Pasadena Wednesday in peaceful protest of the Zimmerman verdict. –Photo by Terry Miller
Senator Liu announces $47 million to retrofit local schools Senator Carol Liu (D- La Cañada) has announced that an estimated $450 million will be available to fund energy efficiency and clean energy projects, including roughly $47 million for schools in the 25th Senate District. Additionally, nearly $50 million will be provided to fund energy projects at California’s 112 community colleges. These projects provide a triple benefit by reducing energy bills, improving school conditions and providing needed jobs to help
employ the 400,000 plus unemployed construction workers in the state, according to a press release set out Monday. “As a main recipient of funds from the Proposition 39 – California Clean Energy Jobs Fund for the upcoming fiscal year, public schools will benefit from long-term energy savings.
