Monrovia Public Library celebrates trees in two ways By Susan Motander Just in time for Arbor Day, two separate events will celebrate trees in two very different ways this week. First, on Thursday evening, there will be a discussion of the citrus industry here in the San Gabriel Valley. Then on Saturday, a birthday party will be held for Library Park’s Moreton Bay Fig Tree. On Thursday evening, April 18, at 7:00 p.m. in the Community Room of the

4/28/13.

Monrovia Public Library, Sierra Madre resident Joe Feeney will be speaking on the history of the citrus industry in Southern California. The public is invited. Admission is free and refreshments will be served. Be there to learn about how the citrus industry influenced the development of the entire region. On Saturday afternoon, April 20, at 2:00 p.m. there will be a celebration

of the 100th birthday of the Moreton Bay Fig Tree on the North Side of Library Park, 321 S. Myrtle Avenue. Monrovia families are invited to come and listen to stories, make a craft and enjoy a birthday snack in honor of the venerable old tree. All this will occur in the shade of that stately tree. The library staff reminds everyone to bring a blanket or chair. This is an event for all ages.
