Pasadena police officer placed on administrative leave On February 7, 2013, following a court ruling by Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Larry Fidler involving a 2007 Homicide, Pasadena Police Chief Phillip L. Sanchez has placed Officer Kevin Okamoto on paid administrative leave and temporarily re-assigned Corporal William Broghamer from the Homicide/Assaults Unit, pending an internal investigation. Chief Sanchez told Beacon Media that “Judge Fidler granted a mistrial in the 2007 homicide case. In his overview he was critical of Officer Broghamer and Okamoto’s performance. Based on the outcome, I initiated some immediate actions, including a personnel investigation.” “The Pasadena Police Department has an obligation to swiftly and thoroughly investigate allegations of misconduct. The allegations that have been levied against these officers are serious and the Pasadena Police Department will conduct a thorough investigation,” said Police Chief Phillip L. Sanchez.

BY SUSAN MOTANDER In a special meeting, the Monrovia City Council approved a settlement with Samuelson & Fetter, L.L.C. (S&F), the developer that had sued the city for $106 million. The lawsuit was based on S&F’s claims that the city had violated the Design Development Agreement they had over the development of the project
known as Station Square. The parties entered into a stipulation for judgment to settle the lawsuit. A stipulation is an agreement between the parties by which the parties agree to what the judgment that concludes a lawsuit will be. The lawsuit claimed that the city sold land to the Gold Line for its Operations Yard and parking lot, land it had previously promised
to S&F. The settlement, which was approved by the successor agency’s Oversight Board on Wednesday afternoon, now needs to be approved by the state’s Department of Finance. In the stipulation for judgment, the City of Monrovia as the Successor Agency to its own Redevelopment Agency agrees to sell lot of property along Pomona and Magnolia
Avenues adjacent to the Gold Line Station site for $2,780,000. The city agrees to pay Samuelson Fetter $510,000 of which $100,00 will be retained by the city to be used to offset the cost of zoning and other fees in regard to Lot A. The city will also reimburse S&F for the environmental insurance premium costs not to exceed $100,000.
As is often the case in rapidly changing police actions such as that in Big Bear Tuesday, there is a tremendous amount of misinformation, and media speculation. Getting to the facts in the case has been difficult, at best. We do know, however, that a body was discovered in the burned out cabin after the shootout Tuesday and that some identification was located and believed to belong to Dorner . Los Angeles County, LAPD police officials and police agencies statewide listened intently to radio scanner traffic as the dramatic shootout unfolded at a Big Bear-area cabin on Tuesday afternoon about 1:30PM. SWAT teams attacked the cabin Tuesday, with hundreds of rounds fired in a “constant barrage of gunfire.” according to numerous news sources. A fire ensued consumPlease see page 14

Arcadia Police dept. confirmed Tuesday that they were asked for extra patrols by Holy Angels Parish school as a result of concerns for the safety of the parishioners and children. Holy Angels' pastor Rev. Michael Evans said via email this weekend that he is seeking sanctuary outside the area while the Los Angeles Police
Dept. searches for the cop killer Christopher Dorner who named his sister in the now infamous manifesto published on Facebook. Teresa Evans, a Los Angeles police sergeant was apparently named by fugitive Dorner in an 11,000 word manifesto. There is now a $1 Million reward for the capture of Dorner. "As a safety measure for our community I have asked to have an increased police presence for our campus," Evans said in his email. "While I am not under direct threat from this suspect, both LAPD and Arcadia PD have recommended that I be away from the parish," the
pastor said in the statement. The Rev. Blaise Brockman, the church's associate pastor, is leading Holy Angels in place of Evans for the time being. Arcadia police officers are now providing extra patrols and consulting with Holy Angels about how to handle the situation. Dorner's manifesto, which he posted online, names about 40 people he blames for corruption within the Los Angeles Police Department and ultimartely his firing from LAPD in 2009. Evans is the first person Dorner named in the manifesto is Evans, whom Dorner alleges kicked a suspect in the head three times during a 2007 arrest
