The department store chain announced plans to open the new store months ago and very soon after the closing of Mervyn’s department store, which declared bankruptcy earlier this year and sold off all their merchandise before shuttering all

their stores. According to the company, the new store will employ up to 150 people in the Monrovia store alone. Added to that are 30 planned new store openings around Southern California, bringing the total number of 4,200 new jobs to the Southland, according to a statement from the company released in Early August. According to the release, Kohl’s stores will be in need of associates for customer service, department service,

cash register operation, early morning stocking, truck unloading, housekeeping and evening signage/pricing updates. The company has also said that new hires will receive a benefit package including health insurance, a 401(k) plan, employee stock ownership and merchandise discounts. Monrovia Rotary Barbecue and Talent Show On the evening of Saturday, October 3rd, The Rotary Club of Monrovia will be hosting “Monrovia’s Got Talent” at the Monrovia Historical Museum located at 742 E. Lemon Ave. Performers of all types will compete for the title of the most talented act in town and a $500 grand prize. Fourteen acts consisting of musicians, dancers, comedians, and singers have made it to the final round.

This week’s winner of the Beacon Media/Priceless Computer Back to School Giveaway was Jacky Kwok, a seventh grader from First Avenue Middle School in Arcadia.
