From HM’s Desk Change is the one constant in life. The start of a new school year is always a time of change and transition for children and can be a challenging time for parents as well. As the first term ends, it is a moment to pause and reflect on the transition your child has gone through. If he or she is new in the school, the challenges not only include adjusting to the different expectations and routines of their new place, with new teachers and a new curriculum, but also working out how to belong in a new group of peers. For most, this fresh start is an exciting and energizing experience. I am happy to share news of a new initiative at our school – Student Council elections. In order to encourage the value of voting among our students, a free and fair election was held to develop students‟ trust, confidence and motivation as a first step towards democracy. A successful Student Council election culminated in the investiture ceremony where the office bearers pledged to perform their duties responsibly. A parent teacher meeting was held to address parents‟ concerns and queries regarding their children‟s academic progress. The teachers discussed the academic performance and also planned with parents on how to help students improve further.
An Orientation Session was organized on 20th September 2013 to introduce the Beaconhouse Early Years Enhanced Learning Environment initiative. It was held to inform parents how the use of technology enhances the learning experience of students and facilitates them to acquire basic concepts of mathematics, creative development, and communication- language and literacy. The sessions concluded with a question/ answer session in which parent‟s

A special morning assembly presentation was arranged by students of class VI A to observe the death anniversary of our beloved leader Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah. Students highlighted the importance of the day by sharing the Quaid’s quotes in the form of role play in order to illustrate important lessons from history. The fellow students took great interest in this presentation as Quaid’s worth sayings are a beacon of light for us and brings great determination and a strong will to work for the betterment of the nation’s future. The presentation concluded with a singing of heart touching words of Kalam-e-Iqbal “Sharab-e-Kohn phr pila saqiya, Wohi jam phr gardish mein la saqiya”

Red and Pink Colour Day
Colours not only affect our moods, they can also promote learning and creativity. Recognizing colours is an
important skill and the day was organized to provide young students of Early Years with an opportunity to explore and experiment with creativity. The young Beaconites were beautifully clad in red and pink attire. Various activities were carried out like show and tell and jelly making. Red apples were made from paper plates and bubble painting was done to acquaint
young learners with the colour red. The children also sang poems and songs about the two chosen colours.
All students came to the school dressed up in traditional Eid attires. The ambiance was festive and filled with students’ laughter and smiles. They enjoyed different activities like playing piano, painting, colouring and singing. The main objective of arranging this event was to inculcate a sense of unity and sharing which is the essence and blessing of Ramadan.

HSPR has always been active and concerned about environmental issues. To educate students about climate change an Energy Conservation Day was organized to spread the message of „Go Green, Save Energy, Conserve Environment'. Our students made posters for an awareness campaign and appealed to students and teachers to work for cutting down wastage.

The Day we Chose our Leaders On 4th November our school experienced the process of elections for the Student Council after a week of campaigning. Students enthusiastically lined up in the ground and cast their votes one by
one in an organized manner. All teachers and junior staff were also given an opportunity to cast their vote. Students thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience and learned about the electioneering process.

Law of the Land In order to create traffic awareness among the young generation, National Highways & Motorway Police delivered a lecture on road safety and road sense. The young Beaconites enthusiastically participated in the discussion and shared their points of view about traffic sense and safety.
Allama Iqbal the patriotic poet, who raised his voice at a crucial time to bring forth a country where we could live in peace, will always remain in our hearts. In remembrance of his contributions and services to the nation, young beaconites celebrated Iqbal day with great honour and enthusiasm. Students of class I presented a tableau on Iqbal‟s poem, „bache ke Dua.‟ depicting that all the blessings in nature are from Allah Almighty and we have to be thankful for all that. Class III and VII presented
speeches on the topics of „Iqbql aik sacha ashiq I Rasool‟ and „mard e momin‟. Class VI students shared Iqbal‟s poetry in the form of „bait bazi‟ and received accolades from the audience. Class V students presented a tableau on Iqbal‟s poem „Hamdardi‟. Class VI sang a heartwarming song „Sharab e Kuhn‟ and class V students presented Kalam e Iqbal. In the end the Head mistress praised the efforts of all the students and appreciated skillful display in presenting this programme.

Orientation Session The annual orientation meeting was held in September for classes III to V in separate sessions. It gave parents an insight into the BSS curriculum and teaching strategies. The concept of fostering thinking skills was emphasized.
Friends are forever. They are an essential need in one‟s life. Sharing our sorrows and burdens they make life beautiful and enjoyable for us. Friendship plays a vital role in one‟s life as Pietro Aretino says, “I keep my friends as misers do their treasure, because, of all the things granted to us by wisdom, none is greater or better than friendship”. To make friends feel that they are loved and always need-
ed, the children of Early Years celebrated Friendship Day at BSS HSPR. Students shared views about friendship and on how to take care of our friends. They also shared wonderful ideas about what makes friends special and memorable. After the morning assembly students invited all the teachers and students to write a few sentences about Friendship on the „Comments Tree‟ displayed near the stage.

Our handwriting is a very personal part of our self-image and an expression of personality. We conducted a handwriting competition for students from classes I till VII. All the students participated with enthusiasm. It turned out to be the most effective way to teach students the importance of correct strokes, font, specific shape of letters, and the rhythmic repetition of elements.

Music and melodies accompany all of us throughout our lives. Music expresses and arouses emotions in a way that words alone cannot. It is widely observed that children delight in singing with others, the act of singing in a group creates a connection between participants, regardless of their age. A group of young performers from class I and II enjoyed participating in
a singing competition and delighted the audience with their melodious performance of a variety of songs.
Students of Class III-V got the unique opportunity to participate in the ICT Live Skills Competition. The students' involvement was worth appreciating as they accomplished the given tasks without their teachers' assistance. The young competitors of HSPR confidently participated and Ali Zain-ul-Abedeen and Aroob Malik of class III secured third position.
