Important Announcement We all extend a very warm and heartiest welcome to Mr.Attaullah Niazi who has been appointed as the Principal of Model Town Chapter and Ms. Debra Naeem has joined 79-G as Senior Mistress.

Respected Parents As in all other fields of life, the education scenario is also undergoing rapid changes.

New educational reforms have identified some important techniques of improved learning which every school should strive for. Projects Based Learning is one of these techniques which has proved its efficacy and encouraged students to work on a problem in depth, rather than covering many topics superficially.

Beaconhouse firmly believes in adopting techniques which not only enhance the students’ learning abilities but also groom them for future challenges. New teaching methodologies emphasise more on project and practical based learning for the students. It is a general observation that we all learn best by ‘doing’.

In this term, some of the projects have been planned for all levels in which students will engage in learning activities such as field trips, interviews, and online collaboration through social networking and emailing.

All of these activities are aimed at enhancing their:  Communication and presentation skills  Organisation and time management skills  Research and inquiry skills  Self-assessment and reflection skills Working in groups will polish their group participation and leadership skills. The mode of teaching for these modules will be a combination of technology-integrated approach and self-investigation. I firmly believe that we will have your full support and cooperation as always. Together we can help our children explore new vistas of learning and practical knowledge.

Annual Prize Distribution Ceremony An impressive Prize Distribution Ceremony was held at the Alhamra Cultural Complex to give away awards to the students for good performance during the academic year 2009-2010. Ms. Salima Hashmi, a renowned artist and Dean of the School of Visual Arts at Beaconhouse National University, graced the occasion with her presence and gave away the prizes and certificates to the successful students.

On this occasion, the play ‘The wizard of Oz’ was enacted by the students which received great appreciation and applause from the parents who were attending the ceremony.

Friendly Cricket Match Students of Class IV and Class V played a friendly Cricket tournament with Auspak International School System. Our team lost but put up a marvellous show of skill and sportsmanship and received the runnersup trophy.

Environmentalists of the Year The Nature Club of Pakistan launched an activity-based learning programme, which was aimed at creating awareness among the students about nature and botanical life. An award under the category of Environmentalists of the Year was announced to create awareness among the students about the environment and natural assets.

Ghina Sohail of Class IV White won this award in the junior category and was given a silver medal.

Class Representatives In order to create awareness among the students regarding the electoral process and its significance in democracy, elections were held for all levels. The students of all classes were given the opportunity to elect their Class Representatives for the 2nd term by voting for the nominated members of the class.

For the second term, The Nature Club of Pakistan has come up with a new activity. The objectives of this activity-based learning programme are to create awareness among the students about different natural phenomena including the Earth’s movement.

A number of students have participated in this activity and they will be constructing sundials and studying how weather changes according to the time of the day later on.

Hand Writing Competition Reading and writing are the two most important parts of learning. To polish the reading and writing skills of our students, an inter-class handwriting competition (in English and Urdu) was organised for Class III and IV. At the first stage, all students were given a chance to participate and the best pieces were selected from each section. In the second phase, the selected children transcribed the text provided to them. The following students stood out for their handwriting and were awarded with the Certificate of Appreciation for Best Handwriting.

School fair As a part of their Urdu curriculum, Class IV organised a school fair. This gave them a chance to have firsthand experience of the real world of trade and transaction, and get an insight into how to attract, motivate, plan and share in groups.

Students designed invitation cards and posters for decorating their stalls which enhanced their art skills.

Children wholeheartedly con-

tributed their efforts by putting up different stalls such as food stalls, games, art and craft, to mention a few. It was a nice experience for the students and they really enjoyed it.

Trips To Safari Park Excursion trips are not only a source of entertainment for children, they also serve as an inspirational tool of learning for them. In order to give exposure to the students and make them aware of their natural environment and habitats where animals live, students of all levels were taken to the Safari Park.

Inter-Schools Quiz Contest ICT Tools and Information Technology are being used in schools with an objective to provide the students with the opportunities to increase their knowledge and enhance their learning abilities to combat future challenges in an effective way. As part of the effort, an Inter-Schools Multimedia Quiz Contest was held in the school on 24 February 2011. Teams from BSS-Walton, BSS– Askari X, BSS– 78A1, City School System Model Town Branch and our own branch competed in this quiz programme. All teams put up a marvellous show of knowledge and intellectualism. Mr. Atta-Ullah Niazi, Principal Model Town Chapter, graced the occasion as the chief guest.

They have also planned a party for the junior staff of the school as a token of thanks for their services and cooperation throughout the year.

Points to remember .

The main objective of education is to instil a sense of purpose and ethics in the students and help them become good citizens and productive human beings.

As part of their curriculum requirements, Class IV students have planned two social welfare projects in which they will collect and distribute toys among orphans at the SOS Village.

A few reminders, which can help us avoid all kinds of hassles and problems:  Punctuality and regularity are the stepping stones on the path to success.

Punctuality and regularity should be given due importance to develop a sense of responsibility in

the students right from the beginning.  Students should be dressed in proper and clean uniforms. Please write their names on their jackets, blazers and sweaters, and on their lunch boxes with a permanent marker.  Parents/drivers/relatives are requested to bring the I.D cards of their children to ensure safety.
