For this purpose, an „Investiture Ceremony was organized on 18th December, 2012.

FROM THE HEADMISTRESS’ DESK Dear Parents, By the grace of Almighty we have finally reached the end of a very busy, productive and long first term. It has been another fun filled term with a very high notion where the students not only enjoyed their studies but enthusiastically participated in all co- curricular activities. We believe being only brilliant in academics doesn't help a student become a responsible citizen. A student should also be equally talented in other fields and even if not, they should at least pay some interest in them.

It's because being both academically and cocurricular talented helps a student to face the world.

There is one thing that matters and that is to learn. The only thing the mind can never exhaust, never fear or distrust, and never dream of regretting. Our focus has been enhanced learning experience, on the part of students and we are continuously and untiringly working towards it through more interactive classrooms and effective teaching skills.

We take great pride to inform you that your faith and conviction has helped us flourish and spread ourselves into new dimensions. We have equipped classes Pre Nursery till Two with multimedia projectors, 6 computers each, along with colour printers, scanners and speakers. Moreover to provide a world. environment to students, classrooms comfortable and conducive learning from Pre-Nursery till Two are air conditioned. „Promethean‟ an interactive white board is provided in the resource room for interactive learning from class Pre-Nursery to Class VII We are greatly honoured that your families have chosen to entrust us with your education. Each year our biggest task is to make sure your education is fruitful and inspiring. Your precious support, feedback and encouragement have helped our branch to grow and expand. A new building annexed to the existing one is already hired to accommodate the on growing strength of the students, where classes 3, 4 and 5 will be shifted soon.

We are having several training courses and workshops for our teachers to further sharpen their teaching skills and acquaint them with advanced teaching tools. Selected teachers from HSPR are attended The Foundation Course, E-Foundation Course, BCT (Beaconhouse Certificate in Teaching) and DTWICT. I am extremely grateful to all the parents who have always extended their tremendous support and co-operation and expect the same in future. Accept my New Year wishes for your family‟s wellbeing, success, prosperity and good health in the coming times. Have a Happy New Year.

FIRST DAY AT SCHOOL

ORIENTATION MEETING

Shiny, sharpened pencils, Desks all in a row, It's the first day of school and I „m ready to go We welcomed our new students wholeheartedly and helped the children shed off their worries and fears.

The young beaconites began the school year by introducing themselves and talking about all the activities they had done in the summer break. The teachers went over classroom rules, so that children know what‟s acceptable and what's not. The children were very happy when they went back home

Parents and teachers both play a vital role in the development and upbringing of a child. They complement each other in the character building of a child and for their better future. Keeping in view this imperative factor, we organized an orientation meeting for the parents to get indepth knowledge of how BSS curriculum is carried out and how they can benefit their child by providing them assistance in their studies. This meeting was a week long programme which was held in different sessions for different classes.

SENSORIAL EXPERIENCE

PARENT TEACHER MEETING Parent Teacher Meeting is an important time to meet with the child‟s teacher in a one to one setting. It is a chance to see how the child is getting on in school, where their strengths and weaknesses lie, how they socialize with other children in the classroom, playground, extracurricular activities etc. It is also a chance for the teacher to learn more about the child so that she can work together with the child‟s success. Keeping all these things in view we, at HSPR arranged our 1st PTM on 09th October2012 in the school premises. All the parents enthusiastically attended the meeting to know the progress of their children, discuss their weak areas and give positive suggestions for their improvement to have a great school year.

EID MILAN PARTY

Eid is a time of celebration and joy for Muslims.

Keeping this in mind an Eid Milan party was arranged in the last week of September to mark the never ending fun of school life.

All the beaconites came to school with a big smile on their face, dressed up in their beautiful traditional Eid clothes. From pre-nursery to senior section, all of them were very excited about this event. Students played many indoor games and had face painting done. Later they went to their classes, had their lessons and then continued the day with snacks, games and songs. This provided a welcome break from the hectic routine work.

COLOUR DAY The „Green,Red and Pink Colour Days‟ were celebrated at our campous with zeal and ferver Children came to school in their colourful outfits and also brought objects with them,which were related to the specific colour, like a toy, a book and even a Pakistan flag for show and tell session. Various activities were carried out on colour days like, seed plantation, races, finger painting, leaf printing and hand printing. Students also made crafts like popup puppets, wind mills and masks. Finger painting and hand printing was also done. Tiny tots also sang songs related to the theme. Great deal of enthusiasm was seen among the students who managed to keep pace with every activity. This learning was 'Fun-based and Activity-based.'

An incredible activity spotted at Harley branch for tiny tots based on sharpening the use of all five senses i.e. „To Make Popcorns!‟ A hawker was invited in the school premises; He demonstrated how the pop corns are made. The children were able to see and hear them popped up. The aroma of the popcorn was mouthwatering that captured attention of kids but also teachers. After the popcorn had popped and cooled down the tiny tots were handed the pieces of popcorns to touch. Shortly after an interactive session of questions and answers was carried out to describe how the popped popcorn pieces can be felt, either smells and taste

QUAID’S DEATH ANNIVERSARY

GLOBAL DIGNITY DAY

The 64 death anniversary of the Father of Nation “Quaid e Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah” was commemorated on 25thSeptember 2012. For this, a special morning assembly was organized with a pledge to follow his golden principle of „Unity, Faith and Discipline‟ and to pay tribute to the Father of the Nation for his heroic struggle for an independent homeland for the Muslims.

The young Beaconites presented speeches bringing to light the life of Quaid-e-Azam, emphasizing his efforts and struggle to unite the Muslims of Indian subcontinent.

„Dignity is the ability to stand strong and tall in face of adversity while being able to bow to the elderly and crawl with the children.‟ Global Dignity Day is celebrated every year across the world to establish and recognize the right of every human being to lead a dignified life. Like all other schools, students & teachers of BSS, HSPR branch also celebrated this day with great zeal. Each class conducted their individual activities along with a whole school special assembly presentation.

INTER SCHOOL POETRY RECITATION COMPETITION

INTER SCHOOL CREATIVE WRITING COMPETITION

ALLAMA IQBAL DAY 9th of November marks the birth anniversary of Allama Mohammad Iqbal, who is one of the pre-eminent writers of the Indo-Pakistan subcontinent. To commemorate this day, Iqbal day was celebrated.

Students of class IV paid homage to our National hero, honoring his work; he has done for his countrymen, adults and for children. Students shed light on the life and works of our National poet. His famous poems were highlighted along with the message they gave.

Students also presented his poem “Pahar aur Gulahri” in a form of a tableau

IMPORTANCE OF FRUIT IN DIET The little chefs of Class II did a class activity about the importance of fruit in their diet, which was related to their reader „Jaman‟.In this, the little dieticians not only discussed the significance of fruit but also the benefits that we get from them. In the end the little chefs made a fruit salad and enjoyed it.'

An Inter School Poetry Recitation Competition was held at Beaconhouse Kindergarten Rawalpindi on 4th December 2012. Students from Beaconhouse Harley Street, Beaconhouse Civil Line, Beaconhouse Wah and Beaconhouse F7 competed with the host school. Each school had prepared group presentations of class I & II. Some of the students recited the chosen poems while the rest participated in the thematic depiction. The colourful costumes and innovative props added to the ambience of the event. The topics chosen by our school were „Save the Wildlife‟ and „Stop child Labour‟. Our school won the third prize in both the levels.

Creative writing is the very fine art of making things up, in the most attractive, apt and convincing way possible. It encourages students to use their brain, and hence improve their intelligence and helps one to learn how to think better.

Keeping all these things into consideration HSPR hosted a Creative Writing Competition 2012 at its premises for levels VI, VII & VIII. Different branches of Beaconhouse including Civil Lines and F-11were invited to take part in it. The topics for English creative writing were: „If you had super powers…‟ „Do you think you should be using facebook at this age?‟ and „Success Changes People –‟ the topics for Urdu creative writing were „Mard aurat sy behtr hy‟ „Pakistan ka mustakbil‟ and „Makhloot Taleemi Idary”

WORLD TEACHERS’ DAY

STUDENT SPOT LIGHT

World Teachers‟ Day was observed on Friday 5thOctober2012 to pay respect and tribute to their teachers and to emphasize their noble role in nation building. The chief executive MR. DANIAL M. KASURI, in a message wished his teachers a very „Happy Teachers Day‟ and expressed his sincerest gratitude for their hard work. Mrs Sumairah Naveed praised her teachers and thanked them for their special contributions toward the needs of their future generation by giving a refreshing party to her staff in acknowledgement.'

“Success is simple. Do what's right, the right way, at the right time.”

ART COMPETITION Beaconhouse Civil Lines campus Rawalpindi organized „A regional art competition 2012 on 15th October. Our artists from class I to VII enthusiastically took part in the competition. The objective of the competition was to encourage young beaconites and to enhance their skills in art. Different themes like still life, abstract, dignity of work, portraits, were given to different class levels. A panel of judges was there to judge the event. Our creative artists brought 5 prizes to school. Salman of Class I B got 1stprize, Mahnoor Nasir of III B got 3rdprize, M. Zikarullah Rehman of Class IV got 2ndprize and Zainah Kashif of Class V and Moiz Musharaf of VII A, both got 3rdprize.

SAY ‘NO’ TO JUNK FOOD

To highlight the “Importance of the healthy food” a special assembly presentation was organized on 1st of November at Beaconhouse Harley Street Branch Rawalpindi by the early years. All the young participants wore headgears and vegetable badges with slogan "Say No to Junk Food". The students of K.G class shared their views and brought useful points into consideration. The importance of healthy diet and diseases caused by junk food was the main crux of this whole activity. It was a great achievement for our young learners and a first step towards building their confidence and making them more expressive for future.

WELCOMING WINTER

While some people have welcomed winter with a smile, accepting winter with open arms may not be as easy.

Tiny tot of HSPR hailed the cold winter with laughter and joy. The cheerfulness of the children was evident by their speech, attire and gestures. It was a meticulous participation of each and every student of all the sections of KG Nursery and Pre-Nursery.

LECTURE ON ZILHAJ

Harley Street Branch Rawalpindi had arranged a lecture on Hajj, to make young beaconites aware of the importance of first 10 days of Zil Hajj and sacrifice.

For that a guest speaker Mrs. Fawad was invited. All the classes from II to VII attended the lecture. The religious intellectual told the little scholars the rituals of „Hajj‟, the holy perspective of „Safa and Marwah,‟ the miracle of „Zamzam‟, the importance of „Mount Arafat‟ and the festival of „Eid al-Adha‟. Later she discussed the intention and motive behind this sacred pilgrimage. This was followed by a question and answer session.

We are proud to announce that Ali Ejaz of class III-B, our young mathematicians scored 3rd position and won a bronze medal in International Kangaroo Competition.

He is a brilliant boy whose interest in Math led him to such great success. Besides studies he likes riding, and playing computer games. Well done Ali you have made us all proud!

DEBATE COMPETITION

An Inter Class Debate Competition was held whose juries were the HM and the SM. The main focus of this enrichment programme was to build the oral competencies, to develop research and critical thinking skill and to increase confidence in oral communication of these verbally talented pupils.

LIBRARY School libraries make a difference to student achievements and have a positive impact on students and on learning. Our library provides access to a wide range of resources to support inquiry learning and literacy programmes. The young educators can not only request books on specific topics, but also demand resources to support reading and writing programmes.

The books include non-fiction, fiction, picture books and novels. Beside this an audio visual resource is also accessible in the library.

Safety being a top priority, the school practices the safety drill with students, regularly. The goal is to make sure that the students know how to respond if any unforeseen situation arises. Safety drill like lockdown, evacuation and fire drills are practiced to ensure their safety.

REMEDIAL CLASSES MORNING ASSEMBLY PRESENTATIONS

E- LEARNING SMART BOARD

Morning assemblies have always been a great interactive session for the students. We provide platform to the talented beaconites to express their thoughts, feelings and display of their talents. The young beaconites exchange ideas and views about different aspects of their daily lives as well as the world around them. They begin the day with the recitation of the Holy Quran, thought for the day, interesting facts, role plays or tableaus, singing of songs and followed by the national anthem, are the integral parts of the morning assembly. Our students‟ active participation gives us the confidence that the exposure they are getting today will have far reaching impact on their personality development.

We provide computer aided learning and teaching at all levels in our school. Our tiny computer whizzes navigate the “virtual” world with ease and familiarity.

Teachers try to respond to the needs and interest of the class. Lessons include lots of practical work and theory. The main purpose of this is to make our young scholars „digital natives‟ and to impart value based education to the students. The future “movers and shakers” have thus a wonderful and enriching entry into the world of "doers and achievers”.

To evacuate the school building for a fire or other emergency a „frill drill‟ was practiced in the school premises. After hearing the fire alarm the school building was evacuated as though real fire has occurred. The time it took to evacuate was measured to ensure that it occurs within a reasonable length of time, and problems with the emergency system or evacuation procedures were identified to be remedied.

To provide opportunities for academic development for the slow learners and to motivate students toward the successful completion of the first term a „Student Support Programme‟ was initiated in the school from 15th October till 14th Dec, 2012. It involved academic tutoring, which included instruction in reading, writing, study skills, in fields related to language and literacy and Mathematics. Students were given fruitful time, which helped to overcome their incompetency in different subjects. It was a good experience because the results we got were marvelous.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT COURSES Teachers are lifelong learners. We at BSS provide „Professional Development Courses‟ to our teachers. These courses, usually in the form of workshops, seminars and training courses, helps our teachers stay up to date with new trends and learn fresh strategies, techniques and methods for classroom challenges.

The overriding idea behind this is that increased knowledge helps teachers improve students‟ achievement. Keeping all these into consideration, our staff members undergo rigorous in house training courses and training session organized by the Head Office. One of our teachers Ms Zainab Hussain is doing DTWICT and Ms Hina Imran doing BCT.

Students of class IV paid homage to our National hero, honoring his work; he has done for his countrymen, adults and for children. Students shed light on the life and works of our National poet. His famous poems were highlighted along with the message they gave.

IMPORTANCE OF FRUIT IN DIET The little chefs of Class II did a class activity about the importance of fruit in their diet, which was related to their reader „Jaman‟.In this, the little dieticians not only discussed the significance of fruit but also the benefits that we get from them. In the end the little chefs made a fruit salad and enjoyed it.'

An Inter School Poetry Recitation Competition was held at Beaconhouse Kindergarten Rawalpindi on 4th December 2012. Students from Beaconhouse Harley Street, Beaconhouse Civil Line, Beaconhouse Wah and Beaconhouse F7 competed with the host school. Each school had prepared group presentations of class I & II. Some of the students recited the chosen poems while the rest participated in the thematic depiction. The colourful costumes and innovative props added to the ambience of the event. The topics chosen by our school were „Save the Wildlife‟ and „Stop child Labour‟. Our school won the third prize in both the levels.

Creative writing is the very fine art of making things up, in the most attractive, apt and convincing way possible. It encourages students to use their brain, and hence improve their intelligence and helps one to learn how to think better.

Keeping all these things into consideration HSPR hosted a Creative Writing Competition 2012 at its premises for levels VI, VII & VIII. Different branches of Beaconhouse including Civil Lines and F-11were invited to take part in it. The topics for English creative writing were: „If you had super powers…‟ „Do you think you should be using facebook at this age?‟ and „Success Changes People –‟ the topics for Urdu creative writing were „Mard aurat sy behtr hy‟ „Pakistan ka mustakbil‟ and „Makhloot Taleemi Idary”

FIRST DAY AT SCHOOL

ORIENTATION MEETING

Shiny, sharpened pencils, Desks all in a row, It's the first day of school and I „m ready to go We welcomed our new students wholeheartedly and helped the children shed off their worries and fears.

The young beaconites began the school year by introducing themselves and talking about all the activities they had done in the summer break. The teachers went over classroom rules, so that children know what‟s acceptable and what's not. The children were very happy when they went back home

Parents and teachers both play a vital role in the development and upbringing of a child. They complement each other in the character building of a child and for their better future. Keeping in view this imperative factor, we organized an orientation meeting for the parents to get indepth knowledge of how BSS curriculum is carried out and how they can benefit their child by providing them assistance in their studies. This meeting was a week long programme which was held in different sessions for different classes.

SENSORIAL EXPERIENCE

PARENT TEACHER MEETING Parent Teacher Meeting is an important time to meet with the child‟s teacher in a one to one setting. It is a chance to see how the child is getting on in school, where their strengths and weaknesses lie, how they socialize with other children in the classroom, playground, extracurricular activities etc. It is also a chance for the teacher to learn more about the child so that she can work together with the child‟s success. Keeping all these things in view we, at HSPR arranged our 1st PTM on 09th October2012 in the school premises. All the parents enthusiastically attended the meeting to know the progress of their children, discuss their weak areas and give positive suggestions for their improvement to have a great school year.

EID MILAN PARTY

Eid is a time of celebration and joy for Muslims.

Keeping this in mind an Eid Milan party was arranged in the last week of September to mark the never ending fun of school life.

All the beaconites came to school with a big smile on their face, dressed up in their beautiful traditional Eid clothes. From pre-nursery to senior section, all of them were very excited about this event. Students played many indoor games and had face painting done. Later they went to their classes, had their lessons and then continued the day with snacks, games and songs. This provided a welcome break from the hectic routine work.

COLOUR DAY The „Green,Red and Pink Colour Days‟ were celebrated at our campous with zeal and ferver Children came to school in their colourful outfits and also brought objects with them,which were related to the specific colour, like a toy, a book and even a Pakistan flag for show and tell session. Various activities were carried out on colour days like, seed plantation, races, finger painting, leaf printing and hand printing. Students also made crafts like popup puppets, wind mills and masks. Finger painting and hand printing was also done. Tiny tots also sang songs related to the theme. Great deal of enthusiasm was seen among the students who managed to keep pace with every activity. This learning was 'Fun-based and Activity-based.'

An incredible activity spotted at Harley branch for tiny tots based on sharpening the use of all five senses i.e. „To Make Popcorns!‟ A hawker was invited in the school premises; He demonstrated how the pop corns are made. The children were able to see and hear them popped up. The aroma of the popcorn was mouthwatering that captured attention of kids but also teachers. After the popcorn had popped and cooled down the tiny tots were handed the pieces of popcorns to touch. Shortly after an interactive session of questions and answers was carried out to describe how the popped popcorn pieces can be felt, either smells and taste

FROM THE HEADMISTRESS’ DESK Dear Parents, By the grace of Almighty we have finally reached the end of a very busy, productive and long first term. It has been another fun filled term with a very high notion where the students not only enjoyed their studies but enthusiastically participated in all co- curricular activities. We believe being only brilliant in academics doesn't help a student become a responsible citizen. A student should also be equally talented in other fields and even if not, they should at least pay some interest in them.

It's because being both academically and cocurricular talented helps a student to face the world.

There is one thing that matters and that is to learn. The only thing the mind can never exhaust, never fear or distrust, and never dream of regretting. Our focus has been enhanced learning experience, on the part of students and we are continuously and untiringly working towards it through more interactive classrooms and effective teaching skills.

We take great pride to inform you that your faith and conviction has helped us flourish and spread ourselves into new dimensions. We have equipped classes Pre Nursery till Two with multimedia projectors, 6 computers each, along with colour printers, scanners and speakers. Moreover to provide a world. environment to students, classrooms comfortable and conducive learning from Pre-Nursery till Two are air conditioned. „Promethean‟ an interactive white board is provided in the resource room for interactive learning from class Pre-Nursery to Class VII We are greatly honoured that your families have chosen to entrust us with your education. Each year our biggest task is to make sure your education is fruitful and inspiring. Your precious support, feedback and encouragement have helped our branch to grow and expand. A new building annexed to the existing one is already hired to accommodate the on growing strength of the students, where classes 3, 4 and 5 will be shifted soon.

We are having several training courses and workshops for our teachers to further sharpen their teaching skills and acquaint them with advanced teaching tools. Selected teachers from HSPR are attended The Foundation Course, E-Foundation Course, BCT (Beaconhouse Certificate in Teaching) and DTWICT. I am extremely grateful to all the parents who have always extended their tremendous support and co-operation and expect the same in future.
