DRESSAGE RIDERS

Welcome

We warmly welcome you to Congo Road Equestrian Centre for the Caribbean Equestrian Association’s Regional Dressage Challenge and Mini Dressage Challenge. Owned and operated by The Hunte & Foster family, the Congo Road Equestrian Centre is home to Barbadian dressage rider Roberta Foster, a Bronze medalist equestrian at the 2023 Central American and Caribbean Games for individual dressage, who serves as dressage chair to the Barbados Equestrian Association.

We wish the best of luck to all of our athletes and encourage the community to cheer them on as they compete for Barbados.

Message from the uestrian Association

On Behalf of the Barbados Equestrian Association, we are very excited to welcome you back to the Caribbean Equestrian Association's Dressage Challenge for 2024! Last year we missed hosting this wonderful competition and we are delighted to have it back on our calendar again for this year.

It has been wonderful to see the number of new members subscribing to the BEA and the numbers of entries in our competitions. This weekend we have 60 entries, including 11 in the freestyle!

This regional competition allows our riders and their horses to compete and measure themselves against the other nations that are members of the CEA. These nations include Antigua, Trinidad, Bermuda, Haiti, The Cayman Islands, Jamaica, The Bahamas and of course Barbados. The top three scores are taken for each country and a team score is presented. These dressage tests are judged by the same international judge to ensure fairness in scoring this series.

We are so thankful for the amazing judges who are taking their time out to travel, judge and help us in the development of our sport in the islands. Omar Zayrik from Mexico is with us again this year. Omar has visited us in the past and we are thrilled to have him judge this series in 2024.

We are tremendously appreciative for the overwhelming sponsorship we have received this year. We thank our title sponsors for the event, Southern Palms, BRC, Rubis and the Barbados Olympic Association. BRC, Southern Palms and the Barbados Olympic Association have helped us for every year that I can recall and we cannot thank them enough for their continued support. We welcome Rubis to the role as title sponsor and look forward to what we hope will be a great and long-lasting relationship.

Thank you also to our FEI Veterinarian, Dr. Laura Williams, for her continued support.

A massive thank you to Roberta Foster and her family for the use of this wonderful venue! Roberta is our Dressage Chairperson and she is perpetually encouraging riders to fall in love with the sport of dressage. Roberta works tirelessly and is supported by a wonderful team. Events like this are a massive amount of work and Congo Road is magnificent for this event today. Thank you to all of the volunteers who have made this possible. Thank you for all that each and every one of you has done.

May you all enjoy this event and the best of luck to our riders and their horses!

Sincerely

Message from the Dressage Commitee Chair

As Chair of the Dressage Committee, it is my great privilege and pleasure to welcome you to the 2024 Caribbean Equestrian Association’s Regional Dressage Challenge (RDC) and Mini Dressage Challenge (MDC). What a treat to have International 3-star Dressage Judge Mr. Omar Zayrik of Mexico visit our shores again. Mr. Zayrik has always encouraged riders at all levels to excel and his taking the time to travel through the Caribbean to judge the various venues participating in this year’s competition shows his commitment to the FEI solidarity program.

It is also a pleasure to have Heidi Hauri-Gill of the USA, instructor and international judge training our local team members for this prestigious competition in hopes of winning all five of the regional categories of this championship for Barbados.

I would like to congratulate all of the athletes competing in the RDC and MDC this year, as I know that you have all spent many hours training to make Barbados proud and give our island competitive team scores in 2024.

To members of the Barbados Dressage Committee, I also applaud your hard work and dedication in making this event possible. It takes many hands to pull o an international standard event like the CEA RDC, and having a committed team is essential.

The Dressage Committee would like to recognize and thank our sponsors, without whom we could not host this annual challenge. Thank you for your support in o ering financial assistance, accommodation for our judge, the wonderful prizes for our winners, the tents, the trophies and medals, and so much more.

On behalf of the dressage committee and myself, may God truly bless all of the riders, spectators, o cials and grooms with a successful and enjoyable Caribbean Equestrian Association’s Regional Dressage Challenge and Mini Dressage Challenge.

Message from the Caribbean Equestrian Association

On behalf of the Caribbean Equestrian Association (CEA), I am honoured to welcome you all to the 2024 Barbados leg of the CEA Dressage Challenge.

The CEA is proud to foster a spirit of collaboration and competition in the Olympic equestrian disciplines amongst its nine member nations. This mission is embodied in the CEA Dressage Challenge, a year-long competition o ering Dressage athletes the opportunity to compete against their peers across the Caribbean and to achieve recognition and a sense of reward for their e orts.

It gives me great pleasure to see that this year Barbados will host two full days of Dressage, under the expert eye of FEI Judge Mr. Omar Zayrik of Mexico. I wish to thank Mr. Zayrik for his e orts on behalf of our region, as he moves from one island to another throughout the course of the year to judge all the legs of the Dressage Challenge.

Hosting a competition such as this takes a great deal of time and e ort in planning and execution, and so I would also like to commend the Barbados Equestrian Federation, its member clubs and volunteers for their e orts.

Finally, I o er my best wishes to the athletes. The opportunity to compete for your country on home soil is always an honour, and great fun. I wish each of you the best of luck. More importantly- enjoy your ride!

Message from the Barbados Olympic Association Inc.

It gives me great pleasure on behalf of the Barbados Olympic Association Inc. to congratulate the Barbados Equestrian Association (BEA) on hosting yet another exciting event as part of its very busy 2025 calendar, this time the Caribbean Equestrian Association’s Regional Dressage Challenge and Mini Regional Dressage Challenge.

While it was unfortunate that this event had to be cancelled last year due to Hurricane Beryl, the BEA is to be commended for including it in its competition schedule for 2025, demonstrating its commitment to ensuring that Athletes have opportunities to compete at the regional level. The event incorporates both novice and advanced Athletes of all ages, and their equine counterparts. This makes it a truly inclusive event, which is indeed consistent with the spirit of Olympism.

Whatever your role in these two Challenges, I urge you to embrace the Olympic values of excellence - striving for excellence, and being the best you can be; respect - for yourself, the rules, your opponents, and your environment; and friendship - celebrating your commitment to building a better world through sport.

Good Luck Team Barbados!!

Yours in Sport

Dressage Coach Heidi Hauri-Gill

Heidi Hauri-Gill is a successful American dressage competitor, USDF bronze and silver medalist, judge, trainer, a Jane Savoie Certified instructor through 3rd Level and clinician.

Heidi's students have a history of achieving winning results in all spheres of dressage, including Adult Amateur, Junior, and Young Rider, and at all levels of competition from local to National to International - including local Elite athlete Roberta Foster, a Bronze medalist equestrian at the 2023 Central American and Caribbean Games for individual dressage.

Heidi has the skills and experience to take students from total beginners all the way to the elite levels of the sport. In Heidi’s words, “I always feel so fortunate to be part of the journey of those just beginning their dressage career, be it horse or human. As the judge, I try to encourage, give helpful tidbits, and yet be respectful to the scores."

The Barbados Equestrian Association is thrilled to have Heidi return in the capacity as coach for this year's CEA Regional Dressage Challenge, having just judged the Warm-Up Competitions earlier this month. With regards to training and judging the local dressage riders, Heidi stated, "I just love being here and working with each and every partnership of horse and human. The riders are so eager to go the next step, and the horses are so willing. There is a flair to island life, and to include horses is just the cherry on top!".

The Judge At C Meet Omar Zayrik

The Barbados Equestrian Association is delighted to introduce Mr. Omar Zayrik. A dressage judge is responsible for assessing a dressage test and is a certified o cial. The assessment of a dressage test is done at all levels.

As an FEI judge since 2018, Mexican Omar Zayrik was awarded 3-star level judge status in 2021. He has judged championships at all levels including Concours de Dressage International (CDI), recognized by the world governing body of equestrian sports, the Fédération Equestre Internationale (FEI), judging forty-five entries in the Grand Prix at CDI Deauville, France. Omar has o ciated for CDI and national championships in Barbados, Belguim, Colombia, Canada, Holland, Portugal, Sweden, USA, and of course, Mexico.

Omar will o ciate in the same capacity at the Caribbean Equestrian Association’s Regional Dressage Challenge and Mini Dressage Challenge, traveling through the Caribbean to judge the various member countries participating in the competition this year. When asked about judging the CEA, he stated that, "I love to be a part of the CEA, because it helps me to bring my knowledge to many kids, in this developing area, with a lot of commitment and professionalism."

Omar is no stranger to the dressage arena, having competed very successfully representing Mexico, winning the FEI Dressage Challenge and medaling at the Central American and Caribbean Games, and Pan American Games. He is also the Latin & South America representative for the International Dressage O cials Club (IDOC). Omar has also been a Ground Jury Member of the FEI Dressage for Mexico City.
