Stronger Together

The 2021-2022 school year was an academic year like no other. Despite the pandemic, Goshen Local Schools were able to keep all of our schools open during the entire school year. Goshen students and staff demonstrated resiliency in navigating those challenging days and weeks, and continued to move forward.
This Quality Profile is offered as a companion to the Ohio Department of Education’s annual report card for Ohio school districts.
The Sept. 15 release of this year’s report cards revealed so much of what we know about our school district.
Goshen Schools met, exceeded, or significantly exceeded state expectations in all areas of measurement.
ODE’s “star” system (new this year) showed Goshen earned:
• 5 stars in graduation rate
• 5 stars in gap closing
• 4 stars in achievement
• 3 stars in progress
• 3 stars in improving third grade literacy
Remember, a three star rating means you are meeting state expectations in all areas. Our star ratings tied us for the very top rating for all schools in Clermont County.
It should be noted that Ohio’s state report cards are based in large part on a series of single-day tests for students. I truly believe that no report card that the state ever comes up with will be able to capture the true picture of the work that our staff does with our students.
A state report card will never measure the resiliency, creative thinking, and many soft skills that our students learn along their journey of being a Warrior preparing them for life after high school.
It is a measure, but it is only one measure. That is why we put together this Quality Profile, to showcase to all of our community the many great things our Warriors and our staff are accomplishing.
Every day, students arrive at our doors and we put aside distractions and focus on our mission to engage and educate each of them. Buses run, meals are served, and students head home hopefully one day closer to achieving their fullest potential.
We live and work in an amazing community and I am proud to be a Goshen alumni and district superintendent!
Goshen
All Goshen students in grades K-12 are provided with a laptop for use at school. Students in grades 3-12 take their laptop home each day to ensure equitable access to instructional materials, homework, and communication with their teachers.
• Students in grades K-8 receive a Chromebook in a protective case and a charging cable.
• Students in grades 9-12 receive a MacBook Air in a protective case and a charging cable.
Goshen is a Google district, which provides access to the entire Google suite of tools for both students and teachers. The district also uses a number of tools to ensure student safety online, like Securly which monitors internet activity and GoGuardian which allows teachers greater control over student activity in classroom.
Technology is also key to doing the business of a school district with more than 300 employees and 3,500 computers.
Goshen recently updated its phone system, providing a critical update in safety at the building and classroom levels.
Goshen also used FCC grant funds to overhaul our entire internal network, including wired and wireless hardware throughout the district.
Goshen is proud of our innovative program offerings when it comes to technology.
Starting as young as grades 3-5 at Spaulding Elementary, one will find STEM programs allowing students to explore everything from media production and broadcast journalism to 3D printing and design. Programming, web development, networking, and more are also offered as students move through middle school and high school.
In addition, Project Lead the Way and University of Cincinnati IT partnerships give students real-world exposure to classes and careers in technology, opportunities that they would never otherwise have access to, all at no cost to our families.
While Goshen strives to instill a passion for learning, there are also many other factors to consider when supporting students.
Safety: Goshen is continually assessing safety at our buildings. With enrollment on the rise, the district must balance safety infrastructure needs with the constant push to find more space. While modulars are a short-term solution to our space needs, they fall short of the standards of safety we strive to maintain. That’s why we value our relationships with local law enforcement and our two school resource officers.
Whole Child: Students come to us with a variety of needs, including some with significant health issues and mental health needs. Scientific research continues to show that interaction with dogs — specifically, trained dogs — can reduce cortisol levels and physiologically decrease stress for humans in distress. To that end, Goshen High School and Middle School are now homes to two facility dogs trained by CircleTail, an accredited organization that trains service and hearing dogs for people with disabilities. The dogs, named Meg and Artis, are brought in to help de-escalate students in distress, or just to be available for a hug. Further mental health support is provided by Goshen’s five counselors and three school psychologists.
strives to bring appropriate technology into classrooms to aid students in their learning, as well as build skills that will prepare them for college and careers.

When needed, there are many supports in place to help Goshen students along their learning journey. Educators call this a multi-tiered system of supports or MTSS.
• Every Goshen student in grades K-5 receives academic intervention and/or enrichment during a 30-minute period called Target Time.
• Students in grades 6-8 receive intervention during Warrior Workshop from either their classroom teacher or a tutor.
• Students in grades 9-12 receive academic intervention during Warrior Up bell and/or throughout the school day.
• Students in grades 11 and 12 are able to receive ACT tutoring during their school day, free of charge, through a company called LEAP. This is paid for with grant dollars.
Goshen also has 15 certified Gifted Intervention Specialists who provide gifted services. Students who are identified as gifted in grades K-8 are served in a gifted classroom with certified teachers. Gifted services at Goshen High School include honors courses, AP courses, and college courses.
Teachers track data through the MTSS process. Academic interventions are planned by the MTSS team. In addition to the academic interventions taking place during the school year, Goshen has offered academic summer school for the past two years for students who may have fallen behind.
Fiscal responsibility ensures that the majority of funding is spent on instruction. Goshen focuses on saving money on non-classroom expenditures through a proactive approach to facilities management and energy savings, reinvesting those savings into our students’ educations.
Goshen once again received the Ohio Auditor of State award in 2021 for accurate, ethical and timely management of district funding and financial records.
understands our responsibility to our taxpayers and community and we are proud to offer excellent programs while maintaining excellent financial practices.
