In June, Mrs Rena Patel and her partner, Gethin, welcomed a baby boy, Felix. We hear they are both doing very well and we wish them health and happiness with their new bundle of joy.

We also welcomed staff back from maternity leave in June, as Mrs Rebecca Turley (nee Stanford) returned to the classroom from her maternity leave. She has enjoyed time with baby Sienna over the last year. It is great to welcome such a strong teacher back to the fold in a full time capacity.

Miss Pippa Crews also returns this month after maternity leave. Miss Crews will be working all day Monday and Tuesday and on Wednesday afternoons. We look forward to seeing her back on the sports field.

Mr Dean Robinson will return as a Reception teacher from September. It will be great to see such a wonderful practitioner back at BCS after his paternity leave. We look forward to seeing him making a strong contribution to school life come September.

Mrs Emma Patel-Timmins returns in September after a year with her daughter Eden. She will work three days a week: Monday to Wednesday inclusive. It will be a great bonus to have her teaching across Year 3 and Year 5, focusing on Mathematics as an area of great strength.

Mrs Laura Ridgers returns as School Receptionist in September. Mrs Ridgers comes back to the admin team here at BCS after a successful maternity leave for her second child, Robyn.

I must also formally congratulate Mr Simon Gregory, who is set to become a father in mid December. I'm sure you will join me in wishing him and his wife Jemma every happiness in their parental future.

Mr Kurt Finglas, ICT Administrator, and his partner, Emma, are also expecting, with a baby boy due in October. We wish them all the best for this new chapter.

After the birth of her baby, Arlo, Mum has decided to be a stay at home parent, working as a supply teacher as and when During her time at BCS, Mrs Stephens has been instrumental in developing learning and teaching in Nursery and Reception. We wish her and the family every happiness in the years to come.

Miss Ellie-May O’Hanlon leaves us at the end of term to go to Highclare School in Sutton Coldfield. Miss O’Hanlon has been a fantastic addition to the Pre-Prep team and has brought much energy and passion to the role. She will be sadly missed, but the School supports her move as she feels her current commute to be unsustainable Although sad to see her go, we wish her every success in the future.

Mrs Sue Hall will be retiring this year, leaving us after nearly a decade of service Mrs Hall has been a fantastic advocate for the School and settled many children into life here. We wish her every success and happiness as she prepares to be married in December and starts this new chapter of her life.

This is clearly a shrewd move as there is a real need for outstanding practitioners in this field We wish her luck in her new adventure

Miss Marianna Hurst leaves BCS to travel to Slovenia with her partner, completing a further PHD in magnets I am delighted that we have supported Miss Hurst in gaining a position at The British International School of Ljubljana, in Slovenia. She will be missed. After joining us as a ECT in 2021, she has grown as a practitioner. We wish her every success and happiness in the future.

Miss Ryan has a wealth of experience working in similar year group leader roles at Holy Family Catholic Primary School, Birmingham, where she gained excellent outcomes for children, before taking up a post with the Department of Education where she was Regional Schools Commissioner. I believe the high expectations Miss Ryan has will further develop our team here as well as providing the Year 1 children with strong academic and pastoral focus.

Miss Taylor is an extremely experienced teacher with a particular talent in English, a subject in which she specialises. She was a BSc graduate of Loughborough University before gaining an advanced PGCE in primary teaching. Miss Taylor completed a Masters in Teaching Studies before leaving for Dubai in 2019. She is perfectly placed to bring a blend of strong academics with a caring pastoral teaching style. I feel very lucky to have been able to bring Miss Taylor to our Year 6 team.

Mr Ewan Dalzell Joining the Year 3 Team

Mr Ewan Dalzell joins us from St Bernard's Catholic School, Birmingham. After gaining a first class BSc degree from the University of Birmingham, he gained his PGCE with Distinction at Newman University. Miss Rashda Bibi Joining the Year 3 Team

Miss Rashda Bibi is a passionate, organised teacher and forward-thinking practitioner. She currently works at the outstanding-rated Nelson Mandela School, Birmingham, where she is focused on the individual needs of the children in her care. Currently, Miss Bibi oversees the School Council and has made significant strides in giving children a voice at her School.

Mrs Ruth Hitchins

Both want to pursue assistant roles at this point of their careers. I am sure that they will make excellent additions to our staff team. We also welcome Mrs Faye Cooper, from Lapal Primary School, where she is an experienced Level 3 Teaching Assistant.

Miss Emma Stanley Marketing and Admissions Assistant

Emma joins us after completing her English and Creative Writing degree at the University of Worcester. Emma is an enthusiastic reader and has held an interest in dance since childhood so we are looking forward to seeing how Emma contributes to the life of the School.

BCS President

Mr Iain McNeish President of The Blue Coat School

We are delighted to welcome as our new President, Old Scholar, Professor Iain McNeish, who attended The Blue Coat School from 1972 to 1976 and his mother was a Governor at the School.

Internal Staffing Changes

Mr Elliot Brown, Assistant Head Learning and Teaching, will take on the role of Senior School Liaison from September. Mrs Rosie Ayub performed this role extremely well, but due to her new role as Head of Year 3, we wanted her to focus solely on this important position from September. Mr Brown has already started engaging with senior school colleagues so the transfer will be seamless. Please be aware that Mrs Ayub will coordinate transfer reports for the current Year 5 moving to Year 6 in September.

Mr Baden Hulbert, will take on the role of Director of AG&T, Values and Outreach. Mr Hulbert will oversee the AG&T aspect in the absence of Miss Patel during her maternity leave. During the coming year, he will join the Senior Management Team. Mr Hulbert will also continue as Head of Year 5.

Mr Nick Hill, will move from House Head to Director of ICT and Innovation as we roll out the BCS Digital Learning programme, including the introduction of 1:1 iPad devices in Prep. Mr Hill will ensure that BCS is at the forefront of digital innovation and, over the coming years, will oversee our drive to become an Apple Accredited School.

Mr James Wood, will take over as Head of Maths from September. He has already begun working with Miss Fagan and will be closely supported by Mr Brown over his first year in post. James has a firm foundation on which to build.

Mrs Sukhvir Kaur, will be remaining at BCS, following Mrs Hall’s retirement. Mrs Kaur is a calm and reflective practitioner who has been a great support to the children and colleagues.
