BCS Staff Update 2024-25

Page 1

Welcome

As we approach the end of the academic year 2023/24, I am filled with immense joy and ap remarkable achievements of our pupils at The Blue Coat School Our children have once a achieving remarkable feats across the curriculum. The successful ISI inspection has further set here at BCS.

This summer, our facilities will be greatly enhanced through our summer works programm food technology classroom and a new Atrium These improvements will enrich the childre lunch but throughout their daily activities It is genuinely hard to find a Prep School with such an impressive offer

I particularly want to highlight the exceptional pastoral care provided at our School The teams, led by Ms Benjamin-Coker in Pre-Prep and Mrs James in Prep, are outstanding. With a comprehensive view of the daily operations, I can confidently say that the diligent and caring approach of these teams ensures the safety and wellbeing of our children. I have never been part of a school with such a strong focus on individual care and support

Pre-Prep continues to flourish under the capable guidance of Mrs West and the entire Pre-Prep team This year, we have witnessed our youngest students thrive and make significant progress The growth in these children is truly heartwarming The range of activities and opportunities within the Pre-Prep curriculum, both inside and outside the classroom, is exemplary

Academically, our children continue to excel, building on their initial foundations. Our current Year 6 pupils epitomise this progress with their outstanding senior school exam results Their achievements are nothing short of momentous Beyond academics, music remains at the core of our School The impressive array of ensembles, choirs and orchestras distinguishes us as one of the finest musical Prep Schools in the country

Our sporting accomplishments this term have been exceptional as well From national girls' and boys' IAPS cricket champions to record-breaking personal achievements in athletics and swimming, our athletes have made us proud. It has indeed been a year to remember. Under the watchful eye of Mr Newman, Second Master, the Prep School is going from strength to strength, making our School a beacon in educational circuits nationally

Looking ahead to the upcoming year, I am filled with great enthusiasm Despite the challenges that all schools face, I am confident that BCS is well-positioned to continue thriving and providing a first-class education for all our children We are committed to maintaining our high standards and striving to remain one of the leading schools in the country, with a steadfast focus on the individual child.

In the words of Winston Churchill, ‘ success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts ’ Together, we will continue to build on our successes and work collaboratively to support the growth and development of our children

As we plan for the new academic year, please know that your child's class placements have been made with the utmost care and attention to detail, ensuring they will continue to thrive Should you have any concerns regarding these placements, please do not hesitate to make an appointment to see me by contacting my PA, Miss Reed, via hmpa@thebluecoatschool com

As always, I would like to thank all the children, parents, and incredibly hard-working team here at BCS for all that you give.

Individually strong, unbreakable as one!

With every best wish,

Baby News

I am delighted to announce that Mrs Rachel Kearney, our Registrar, gave birth to baby boy, Tim, in June. Both mother and baby are doing well. Just this week, we received the lovely news that Mrs Saima Farooque, Year 2 Teaching Assistant, also gave birth to baby girl, Zariah.

Mrs April Franklin, Director of Marketing and Admissions, is expecting her first baby in November and will be on maternity leave starting in late October.

Mrs Amy Phan, our EAL support practitioner, will go on maternity leave at the start of the summer break, expecting baby number two.

Other staff going on maternity leave are Mrs Shazana Ibrahim, Prep Teaching Assistant, and Mrs Emily Gridley, Prep Teacher. We look forward to welcoming their new additions to the growing Blue Coat family in the coming year.

Currently on maternity leave are: Mrs Rebecca Turley, Prep Teacher; Mrs Saima Farooque, Pre-Prep Teaching Assistant; Miss Stephanie Tiffin, Pre-Prep Teaching Assistant; Mrs Samantha Hansford, Pre-Prep Teaching Assistant; Mrs Eden Ho-Dawson, Music Administrator; and Mrs Khalida Faris (neé Parvin), Reception. We have already welcomed their little ones into the Blue Coat family and look forward to their respective returns to School next academic year.

With Mrs Eden Ho-Dawson, our Music Administrator, now on maternity leave, her cover will be done by Miss Caitlin Duff. Caitlin is in the process of completing her Masters in Music at University of Birmingham and is an extremely accomplished musician, particularly in clarinet and singing.

We welcome back from maternity leave, Ms Zosia Stefanowski, after the birth of Jonty, and Ms Rena Patel after the birth of Felix. Ms Stefanowski will return in September as a Year 5 Class Teacher, also teaching English to Year 6. Ms Patel will be returning in her role as Director of Able, Gifted and Talented, in addition to teaching mathematics in Year 3 and English in Year 6. I am delighted to have two highly capable practitioners back in the fold.

Valete

Mrs Clare Kavanagh-Finch

leaves us to care for her parents in the Emerald Isle. Clare will be greatly missed; she played an integral role during COVID-19, spearheading online teaching and being an inspiration to team members. Her work as BCS' inaugural Learning and Teaching Advisor has been applauded and significantly supported children in schools across the Birmingham Diocesan Multi-Academy Trust We wish her and her family our prayers during this difficult time. Mrs Rosie Ayub will be taking up the role that Clare is vacating and will be primarily working with Early Career Teachers (ECTs) within the Trust.

Mrs Ellie Warmbury

Year 5 Teacher, will be leaving us at the end of this academic year to return to the maintained sector, seeking to teach a broader range of subjects as a class teacher. We wish Ellie well; she has been a fantastic support to the children and will be greatly missed.

Mr Jeremy Nicklin and Mrs Judith Redfern

retire this July. Mr Nicklin has been a pillar of The Blue Coat School, deeply involved in fostering and developing the musical landscape here. His contributions have not only upheld but also enriched the rich musical heritage of BCS His commitment and passion for music education has touched many aspects of School life, creating an environment where music thrives and resonates within the hearts of our community.

Mrs Redfern joined BCS as a class teacher and over the years, she has served with distinction in various capacities, including as House Head of St Monica’s. Her commitment and contributions to the English department have been particularly noteworthy. Her exceptional eye for detail and her deep passion for English literature has not only enriched our curriculum but has also inspired generations of Old Scholars Both will be missed greatly by our Blue Coat community
