word: exceptional.”

Welcome

Brighton College Prep School is a happy and vibrant place for girls and boys aged 3 to 11 years. We believe it is essential for children to enjoy their childhood, whilst at the same time developing a lifelong love of learning.

In our warm, supportive environment, each child is valued; they are encouraged to seek challenge, to understand the importance of endeavour and, most importantly, to love school.

An exciting, bright and buzzing family school, we are well known for our welcoming atmosphere, high academic standards and exceptional care for each and every child. We want our pupils to both enjoy school and be inspired to achieve their full potential. Drawing upon our outstanding resources, we provide a wide range of opportunities for our children, ensuring these are underpinned by the greatest support and encouragement.

We hope you will visit us soon – you can be sure of a very warm welcome.

A Culture of Kindness

Our highly qualified teachers and wellbeing practitioners support our pupils’ health and wellbeing, as they make their way through the school’s world-class educational journey. We develop a child’s kindness, honesty, self-discipline, good manners and consideration for others, creating a culture where every child feels valued and understands the impact their actions have on those around them.

We encourage children to look outwards, to care for others and for the environment. Our pupils never fail to rise to the challenge of supporting local and national charities.

As pupils move from Nursery through to Year 6, we support them in building empathy and an inner confidence. The pursuit of wholehearted effort is our priority; whilst the school encourages and praises high standards of achievement, we believe that who you are is as important as what you achieve.

A Love of Learning

Academic excellence is at the very heart of a Brighton College education. Our highly qualified and dedicated teachers challenge, inspire and excite our pupils, motivating them to be successful learners.

Specialist teaching begins right from the very start, where pupils are introduced to a wide range of exciting and varied subjects, including Mandarin, French, STEM, and a wealth of sporting opportunities, as well as a vast creative and performing arts programme.

Our excellent academic curriculum is complemented by a wide range of clubs and activities, as well as exciting residential trips and excursions. By the time our pupils reach Year 6, our 11-year-olds are confident, resilient, academically curious, and most importantly, kind.

The Next Chapter

The school is about to embark on an incredible building project, expanding the current Prep School to accommodate all pupils from age 3 to 11 on the same exceptional site. This project will bring some of the very best Prep School facilities in the country to the heart of Brighton – including art studios, music spaces, robotics labs, a design centre, and a brand-new library.

“Best School in the UK for Outdoor Learning 2024”

Beach School

Our Beach School ensures our pupils develop holistically through a range of hands-on learning experiences in our coastal environment. Children are encouraged to explore the natural resources on our doorstep in a setting that supports freedom, and inspiration to cultivate a love of outdoor learning. Our Beach School initiative is a part of our curriculum from Nursery to Year 6.

All pupils from Nursery to Year 6 participate in our annual Make a Difference Day, where children take part in beach cleans and help our local community.

Yoga is taught from age three, and our children enjoy taking their mindful activities to the beach, facilitating spiritual growth. By listening to the sounds of the waves and concentrating on their breathing, our pupils enjoy the physical and mental benefit of being in the present moment and focusing on the sounds and sea.

Not only does our Beach School provide the opportunity to learn about the world, but it also fosters a sense of curiosity and inquisitiveness as individuals, with a strong emphasis on play-based learning.

Educational learning at the beach is enhanced through team-building exercises such as beach scavenger hunts and stimulating group activities, fostering friendships through discovery and imagination. Our specialist teachers provide an emotionally safe environment for children to explore whilst promoting the importance of staying safe by the coast.

“Sport is high profile; the school regularly wins county titles, with fixtures available for all levels of ability.”

Sport

for all

As part of Brighton College, one of the leading sporting schools in England, our school is exceptionally well-equipped to awaken a love of sport and physical activity in our pupils while nurturing their sporting talents.

The incredible sporting facilities at the College are used by all our children. Our pupils enjoy training in the beautiful pool, rooftop running track and world-class strength and conditioning suite. Weekly fixtures take place at our idyllic sports pitches, nestled at the base of the picturesque South Downs National Park.

The school firmly places equal value upon performance and participation, as we believe this approach provides all pupils with a positive experience that will inspire a lifelong involvement in physical activity and sport.

Specialist sports lessons begin in Reception, with weekly competitive fixtures starting in Year 3, where emphasis is on participation and development. From Years 4 to 6, pupils focus on both performance and participation, with teams competing in county and national tournaments.

A strong record exists in our core sports of athletics, cricket, football, hockey, netball, rugby, swimming and tennis, including success at county, regional and national levels.

Performing Arts

Specialist music teaching is given to all, from Nursery to Year 6, helping to awaken a passion for the subject. As pupils move through the school, they continue to put theory into practice, with each child learning the recorder and ukulele. Tuition in a range of other instruments is also available.

From Year 3, three choirs, two orchestras, a concert band, and groups for guitar, string, wind and percussion all thrive in our uniquely supportive and creative atmosphere. The school is renowned for the high quality of its musicals and concerts, in which all have the opportunity to take part.

Each child can participate in shows and concerts throughout the year,

helping to build confidence through music and drama. Dance lessons are available from Nursery upwards. Even our very youngest pupils take to the stage in the Dance School’s stunning annual show.

Opportunities for drama include a thriving LAMDA programme. The school has its own drama studio, as well as the state-of-the-art performing arts centre at the College, providing pupils with a broad range of opportunities to showcase their talents. Pupils in Years 5 and 6 receive specialist teaching in music, dance and drama in these facilities. Our pupils enjoy an excellent record in securing scholarships in the performing arts.
