I want to personally thank you for downloading our first EPIC (Experiences with Purpose Impact & Community) Holiday Guide. This guide was inspired by the amazing CEOs highlighted in these pages and designed with you in mind. Together we aim to make this e-magazine a resource you can enjoy while sipping your hot chocolate and one you choose to flip back through during the new year.

Each year brings its own challenges in life, work, business and with family. We want this guide to bring you joy, insight, inspiration and ease. Why? Because you deserve it!

It’s easy to get caught up in the wrong things this time of year. For you this could look like endless ordering via online shopping for everyone on your list, feeling stretched thin trying to juggle holiday parties or family gatherings, or your race to end of year business wrap up for that fresh start in 2023. All of these things sound great, but are they REALLY what YOU need? I’d offer that you’d be better served making this holiday and new year EPIC.

EPIC is a fun abbreviation for Experiences with Purpose, Impact and Community. More of these components in your day to day life can make all the difference, which is why we are breaking down tips to infuse more of each. At B Carroll Events, we use EPIC and a guide for the events we execute. If any one of these four components are missing, we know our design is not to its fullest potential. Many look to escape to retreats and conferences like the ones we plan, but most never take the time to bring that same excitement to their everyday experience.

Experience design is the way to go as opposed to navigating on auto pilot. Grab a journal and ask yourself, “What is bringing me joy lately?” If you come up with a few things, great! Lean into those and plan to do more of that. (Bonus points if you add it to a calendar.) If you can’t come up with at least 2-3 things you may need to try asking yourself, “If you could do anything regardless of cost, responsibilities or time constraints, what would you do & why?” Take note of the thoughts that come to mind. Was it a trip or an activity? What elements from that though can you bring into your day to day? There is no wrong answer here so have fun! The key here is to decide to add more of what you want and the follow through to experience more joy.

Purpose may be described as an intention or objective, but I like to think of it as a driving force that moves you to serve a higher cause that is more to do with others than self. As an engineer I’d say we solve problems by looking at the forest as opposed to individual trees. The beauty of adding this perspective into your life is it helps us focus on something bigger. During this time of year acts of kindness and intentionality may be the light that you need personally. What skills, gifts and passions can you use to benefit others in small and grand ways? The key here is to start where you are on purpose.

Impact and influence adds a healthy dose of responsibility to each of our cups. It’s the visible marshmallows in our coco that can be measured and add a sweetness that “we made a difference”. Did you know that we have an effect on those around us? Most of us underestimate the level of our impact, but what if we leaned into it? We can be the thermostat setting the temperature in the room with our words and actions. Try a simple smile while at home, in the grocery store or around the office. See how effective you are. The key here is to take control of your atmosphere as opposed to being swayed or changes by it.

Community is not optional, it’s a requirement. My motto these days is, “you can’t go as far as your dreams, you go as far as your team”. Who is in your corner? Maybe the holidays are challenging and you need a counselor or coach. Maybe you want exponential growth personally and professionally so an in person or virtual mentor is what you need. Maybe, when you look at the Experience, Purpose & Impact sections you realize that you will need help to make it happen. This is why this section is last, but not least. It’s the necessary reminder to all my Lone Rangers that it is more than okay, it’s necessary to have other people in it with you. Create two lists. The first includes the people you need. The second should include the people you have. The key here is to identify the gaps in your community so you can find your people.

Experiences with Purpose, Impact & Community. That is what I think we all need to cultivate more of in our lives. Not just for this season, but continuously into the new year. The best part is that we can start today using these tips to create an EPIC lifestyle.

The Planner’s Coach

Karrington is a Certified Meeting and Event Strategist, former Corporate Event Planner, author, speaker and now an Event Strategy Coach. She launched her coaching business in April of this year and is currently teaching coaches, entrepreneurs, and planners how to focus less on efficiency but more on effectiveness and execution of their events. Her love for planning has turned into a passion for developing her client’s pre-planning skills/strategies by using The C.A.V.E. Method, four basic principles she believes should be applied to ALL meetings and events. She also helps develop skills in leadership, task-management, organization, and multi-tasking amongst other things. Karrington firmly believes that with the right pre-planning strategies, creation of goals, and effective event strategies her clients can develop into B.O.S.S. (Bright, Organized, Savvy, Star) planners.

In 2021, she co-authored a book called “Your Virtual Events Guide to Creating an Engaging Experience” that promotes virtual events and provides ideas about engagement strategies found here: Your Virtual Events Guide. Karrington hosts an Instagram broadcast weekly called, “The Midweek Lunch & Live with Coach K”, where she promotes other entrepreneurs and their businesses. Karrington was also a guest panelist at the Success Women’s Conference, Woman on Fire 2.0, The Reemergence. In her spare time, she loves to read, travel, learn, write, eat good food, watch a good movie/series, and spend time with loved ones. She recently relocated back to Atlanta to continue building her brand and business, coach and serve her clients, and continue developing her craft. Although she is unclear about what 2023 holds for her, she has faith that God will continue to direct her path and open up even better opportunities for her to live out her purpose in this upcoming year. Her motto for 2023 is “GO ALL IN” and she plans to do just that.
