Let’s celebrate:

• “Thank you for the warm welcome to the team. It’s been made so easy to feel part of something good.”

• “My role is something I value so much. It is only seasonal, but I look forward to the sheep being back there. It is just the most wonderful experience to go to the reserve, early in the morning, and spend some time hanging out with them in all that wonderful, beautiful space.”

• “All BBOWT staff at SCEEC work very hard to make volunteers feel valued. No pressure to do set amount of volunteering. Volunteers never kept beyond hours they are expected to do. The atmosphere is warm, supportive, friendly and volunteering is a great pleasure.”

Volunteer Uniform

We are carrying out an audit and creating a centralised uniform process to create consistency. Part of the challenge is we currently have very limited budget for volunteer uniform and so it is a gradual roll out process.

• Current volunteers - A form will be added to the Volunteer Hub for any volunteers to complete who have not yet received any uniform to date and who would like uniform.

• New volunteers will be sent a uniform size form when they register as a volunteer and then added to the rolling list.

• Please note that even if you fill the form in, it may take some time before you receive any uniform.

• We are restricting uniform allocation to one piece of uniform per volunteer until we can increase our uniform budget.

• We will be prioritising uniform for volunteer roles who are visitor facing.

• We are looking at what uniform each volunteer role needs to ensure it’s fit for purpose for the tasks being carried out.

Next Steps - Improvements Communications

and Processes

Communications – Will be addressed as Assemble is rolled out, as it will give us the platform to communicate more easily, respond quicker to feedback and be simpler for volunteers to access information in one place. A great example is we will not need to send email updates to key volunteers to then have to pass on this information to volunteers. As we’ll be able to communicate directly to everyone through Assemble. It will help us improve communications and save us all time!

Processes are currently getting updated and new ones are being created for Assemble where needed. It will then take time for these to be embedded into our working practices, but work is underway!

Next Steps - Improvements

Team Specific Feedback

Meetings & discussions with Senior Managers

We are over half-way through having meetings with teams to pass on any feedback about specific challenges at a site or feedback specific to a volunteer role, which is then being noted and looked into by individual teams e.g. training requests, site improvements etc.

Tools & PPE

Following feedback about quality of tools and additional PPE at a couple of sites, Senior Land Managers are having discussions to establish where we need to prioritise resources on upgrading tools.
