Congratulations! Our St. Mark Family! It is indeed an honor to serve as your Pastor, and I thank you for accepting my wife as your First Lady. As your Spiritual leaders, we thank you for your tremendous sacrifice of your gifts, talents, time, and treasures to help make this 120th church anniversary a success. Rev. Shirley and I commend you on a job well done. In the past year and a half, it's been a joyful experience serving as your servant leaders. We count it all joy as we celebrate 120 years of community service and family. We pray as we forge ahead, the remaining of this conference year, that we will work together and reach out to touch the lives of those who need Christ. Rev. Shirley and I do truly love serving you and the church at large. As we look forward to future times of worship, praise, and celebrations here at St. Mark, let us continue to grasp dreams, overcome struggles, and walk in our destiny. We thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, for his many blessings and favor that He so richly bestow on us. He is still healing and delivering us and the community. We are ecstatic about what God has in store for those who love Him and are the called according to His purpose. May the blessings of God be upon you as we serve this present age. Yours in the Master's Service,
Rev. Walter E. Daniels, Pastor
“Building a Church that Pleases God”
Joy and Peace! In focusing upon our theme, “Building a Church that Pleases God”, we are aware that the responsibility of co-chairing our church anniversary is an awesome task. We prayed and meditated as a team and collectively joined forces for the purpose of ensuring that we meet the needs of St. Mark AME Church. First and foremost it took Faith in believing that with God all things are possible. In building a church we realize that it takes hard work, commitment, dedication and unwavering Love for God Our Savior. However planning has not been solely ours. We are thankful to a team that worked tirelessly and collectively towards meeting our goal. The success that came out of this endeavor is a result of the entire church’s work -- for each of your gifts was a building block in the success. We are grateful for everyone’s participation in this challenge.
Yours in Christ, Sister Andre’ Gore Brooks Brother Robert Brooks Sister Ruth Davis Brother Kenneth Davis

The Call to Worship*………………………………….……………………………….Brother Robert Brooks Leader:
I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the Lord, our feet shall stand within Thy gates, O Jerusalem.
People:
For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than to dwell in the tents of wickedness.
Leader:
Because of the house of the Lord our God I will seek Thy good.
People:
Those that be planted in the house of the Lord, shall flourish in the courts of our God.
Leader:
Blessed are they that dwell in Thy house, Lord, I have loved Thy habitation, the place where Thy honor dwelleth.
People:
For the Lord is in His Holy temple, let all the earth keep silence before Him.
Leader:
Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in Thy sight, O Lord, my strength and my Redeemer.
People:
O sing unto the Lord a new song, for He has done marvelous things. Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all the earth, and sing praises!
The Hymn of Praise**…………..……AME Hymnal # 519………………….……….Brother Charles Hill The Church’s One Foundation The Church’s one foundation Is Jesus Christ her Lord; She is His new creation By water and the word. From heaven He came and sought her To be His holy bride; With His own blood He bought her, And for her life He died. Elect from every nation, Yet one o’er all the earth, Her charter of salvation, One Lord, one faith, one birth; One holy name she blesses, Partakes one holy food, And to one hope she presses, With every grace endued. Yet she on earth hath union With God, the Three in One, And mystic sweet communion With those whose rest is won, O happy ones and holy! Lord, give us grace that we, Like them, the meek and lowly, On high may dwell with Thee.

Bishop James Levert Davis Servant Prelate of the 9th Episcopal District of the African Methodist Episcopal Church Bishop Davis is a fifth generation African Methodist Episcopal minister, and the son of the late Mother Dorothy Lynch, the late Reverend Sam Davis and Mother Alma Davis. Bishop Davis attended both the public and private schools of Alabama. Having received the call to ministry at age 12, he attended Morris Brown College in Atlanta, Georgia where he earned the Bachelor of Science degree; Master of Divinity degree from the Turner Theological Seminary and the Doctorate of Ministry degree from the Interdenominational Theological Center in Atlanta, Georgia. Bishop James L. Davis has preached and taught the good news of Jesus the Christ for over 45 years. After seeking the divine guidance of He who called him to higher service in Kingdom building campaigned for twenty-two months on his mantra – “I Showed Up for Work and God Blew My Mind”. On July 3, 2004, in Indianapolis, Indiana he showed up for an opportunity to serve and was elected and consecrated the 123rd Bishop in the African Methodist Episcopal Church during its 47th Quadrennial General Conference. He was appointed to the 19th Episcopal District which encompasses the Republic of South Africa. While serving his first assignment Bishop Davis’ vision of furthering the legacy of self-help and self-reliance led to many accomplishments while living on the continent for four years (2004-2008). Bishop James L. Davis currently serves as the servant prelate of the 9th Episcopal District which encompasses the entire state of Alabama. As the spiritual shepherd, in 2008 and 2014, Bishop Davis visited all 275 churches throughout the state of Alabama. Under his leadership the 9th Episcopal District purchased and renovated the District Headquarters located in the Downtown area of Birmingham, AL. Twenty-five months later the District celebrated the mortgage burning, while still reporting $1.8 million in budget assessments and giving back to the local churches over $60,000 to assist in various areas of need. For six years, the 9th District saw phenomenal growth in evangelism through Pentecost gathered and Pentecost scattered. He prayerfully spearheaded the coordination of a myriad of details executed by District leaders and members, resulting in unforgettable worship experiences that have drawn over 25,000 worshippers and witnesses throughout the state of Alabama, resulting in numerous accessions, conversions and recommitments. As Chair of the Board of Directors for Daniel Payne College, Bishop Davis has presented a phenomenal vision for its property. This project will serve as one of the instruments for which the District will find another way to finance our church by erecting an income-generating facility. In August 2014 the Daniel Payne College Foundation, Inc. of the 9th Episcopal District purchased the Daniel Payne Middle School as a $2.5 million cash-sale. Making this the largest property owned by an African American institution in the state of Alabama. The Daniel Payne Community Plaza will be the new home for the District Headquarters, and become a thriving space catering to the needs of the immediate Birmingham community and the state of Alabama. He is married to his partner in the ministry, Arelis Beevers Davis. They are the very proud parents of Dr. Nicole Davis Pass and Damarys Monique Burnett, her husband, Christopher, three grandsons, Patrick James and Ashton James Pass and Baron Christopher Valentino Burnett and one granddaughter-Noel Olivia Burnett.

St. Mark A.M.E. Church 120th Church Anniversary 1895-2015
St. Mark AME Church Historical Highlights 1st Church: 33 Chestnut Street (Now James P. Brawley Drive)
In 1895 became the first church edifice after moving from the home of the founders Rev. & Mrs. Robert Wyche. Affectionately known as the “little church on the hill”.
The Sanctuary was heated by a pot-bellied stove fueled by coal.
The members took great pride in the upkeep of the church and raised funds baking pies, cakes, and selling dinners - which eventually included adding stained-glass windows.
Students from Morris Brown College and other schools in the AU Center would come to worship.
In 1948 a devastating fire occurred in the church. Services were then held in the Chapel at Morris Brown College until a new home was found.
The new home discovered by the late Mrs. Louise Henderson, located at 491 Chestnut Street, NW was agreed upon by the Church Body and the 6th Episcopal District of The AME Church. Rev. A.J. Harris, then Pastor, led the Congregation to the new Church Edifice in 1948.
Active members (including our shut-in members) who began worshiping at the First Church are: Mrs. Sadie Brown Mrs. Magnolia Hayes Mrs. E. Vivian Williams Mr. Eugene White, Sr. Ms. Eddie M. Abercrombie

St. Mark AME Church Historical Highlights 2nd Church: 491 Chestnut Street (Now James P. Brawley Drive)

The huge stone edifice, formerly the historical Western Heights Baptist Church, was said to be a hiding place for soldiers during The Civil War.
St. Mark then became one of the largest AME churches in Atlanta, hosting many large gatherings within the church and the community.
Several Atlanta-North Georgia Annual Conferences convened in our Sanctuary.
Booker T. Washington High School once held their Mid-term Graduations at St. Mark.
Some of the notable speakers who graced our congregation were: Mrs. Lillian Carter, Mother of former Georgia Governor and U.S. President James Earl Carter; The Honorable Governor Herman Talmadge; and The Honorable Mayor Maynard Holbrook Jackson.
Our church has always had outstanding Gospel preachers, great choirs and musicians, a wonderful Sunday School, dedicated organizations, including a very active Youth Department which included Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts and Brownies.
A major fundraiser for the church was “The Parade of Flowers”, a project introduced by Rev. D.T. Babcock. This project brought in thousands of dollars by the congregation. It was a competition where the winner was crowned Ms. St. Mark and Mr. St. Mark for the year. Many memorable events occurred at this site that will go down in history such as “The Tom Thumb & Womanless Weddings”.
One major problem with our church at 491 was we did not have any parking space. Parking was on the street. A small lot located in the rear of the church was allowed for our use by the English Avenue Primary School. This was our home until 1976.
Under the leadership of our pastor, then Rev. Preston Warren Williams, II (now Bishop- 6th Episcopal District Presiding Prelate), the Congregation decided it was more feasible to find a new home than to try to purchase and develop land in the area. After much searching, a new home was found.

St. Mark AME Church Historical Highlights 3rd Church: 3605 CAMPBELLTON RD., SW (Corner of Barge Rd.)
This site (formerly Ben Hill Baptist Church) became our new home in June of 1976. What a Blessing from the Lord! Located on 13+ acres of land at the intersection of two major highways – GA Hwy 166 and Interstate I-285. In the early days, Rev. Williams and the St. Mark family sold BBQ sandwiches on the corner. Later we leased the BBQ house.
Many of our present-day dedicated members from 491 made the journey to this amazing campus and soon we added many more dedicated members to the great St. Mark family.
The old Ben Hill Baptist church served as a gymnasium with game rooms and a computer lab. The building eventually had to be demolished to make way for the Renovation of the Educational building.
The educational building housed The Sunday School, Day Care Center, and 3rd floor office spaces which included The Local NAACP office under the leadership of the late Mrs. Jondell Johnson. Also the offices of SWEEAC and a Music Studio.
Quality Living Services, the first center primarily for African American Senior Citizens in the Atlanta area was founded here at St. Mark.
Under the leadership of our immediate former pastor, Rev. Larry W. Hudson, Sr., complete and extensive renovations to the education building and the Sanctuary were made which included the addition of a wonderful elevator which connected all levels of the Sanctuary and educational building. The Administrative offices , Book Store, Conference Room, First-aid

Room, and The Molock Center Dining Hall where many noteworthy events have been held. A school occupies the 3rd level and the food pantry, the lower level.
Many notable speakers, including our own late Dr. Asa G. Hilliard, who enlightened our minds with our great African Heritage, have graced our congregation.
Members from all three edifices have served as local NAACP presidents – The late Dr. Otis W. Smith, 33 Chestnut St., The late Bro. James Couch, 491 Chestnut St. and our former Mayor of East Point, Mrs. Patsy J. Hilliard, who still serves here at the 3605 Campbellton Road location.
St. Mark continues to provide for our senior citizens, our youth, the entire St. Mark family and the community through the many ministries which provide involvement for all ages through the Sunday School, Bible Study, Church organizations and Auxiliaries.
We are delighted to welcome our new Pastor and First Lady Rev. Walter E. Daniels and Rev. Mrs. Shirley Daniels who came with exciting visions of the continued enhancement of God's Kingdom here at St. Mark.

Home: (770) 961-8737 Cell: (706) 662-2191 Fax: (770) 961-8739 Revcwbennett@bellsouth.net Greeting Pastor Walter Daniels and the St. Mark Church Family, We rejoice with you in the celebration of 120 years of the Lord’s goodness to you as a church and are thankful for your steadfast determination and spiritual growth. We praise God for the life and fellowship of your congregation and for the witness you have been in your community. It is a pleasure to congratulate you on this occasion. Webster’s Dictionary defines anniversary as the annual recurrence of a date marking a notable event. The founding of St. Mark African Methodist Episcopal Church definitely fits that definition. Church Anniversaries allow us to do two things to mark the occasion. First, it allows us to remember God’s goodness by looking at how far He has brought us. At the same time, this 120th Church Anniversary also challenges us to move forward and move closer toward God’s vision and plan for St. Mark as a church family. This congregation is a stellar example of what it means to love one another and give cheerfully to those in need. I know that your legacy of ministry will continue to bless this Southwest Atlanta community. The West Atlanta District will continue to keep this congregation in our prayers. In His service,
Rev. Charles W. Bennett Presiding Elder

I would be true, for there are those who trust me; I would be pure, for there are those who care; I would be strong, for there is much to suffer; I would be brave, for there is much to dare. I would be friend of all—the foe, the friendless; I would be giving, and forget the gift; I would be humble, for I know my weakness; I would look up, and laugh, and love, and lift. I would be faithful through each passing moment; I would be constantly in touch with God; I would be strong to follow where He leads me; I would have faith to keep the path Christ trod.

Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he mediate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doth shall prosper. The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away. Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous. For the Lord knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish. Psalm 1:1-6

The Lord is my sherperd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth in the path of righteousness for his name sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear noevil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever. Psalm 23:1-6
