DISCRIPTION

Radiation Porn & Stigmatized Hinterland Semipalatinsk is the most unique and extreme inhabited man-made disaster site on earth - a Kazakhstan Gobi that has been polluted by nuclear weapons experiments for 30 years but still has villagers surviving tenaciously. Due to continued nuclear radiation contaminating water sources and soil, residents here are unable to live a healthy life and carry out agricultural production.

In order to revitalize the village, this plan gradually eliminates radiation through vegetation replacement and microbial technology, purifies water sources and soil at the traditional landscape level, and restores traditional agriculture and animal husbandry.

At the same time, in order to eliminate external prejudice and citizens’ fear of nuclearcontaminated land, and destigmatize communities that have been harmed by nuclear contamination, we planned a campaign with the themes of “see for yourself” and “swallowing radiation.” The interactive platform and agricultural product planning attract and encourage the public to visit the site, participate in agricultural restoration, purchase agricultural products, and share the experience of interacting with the site on social media. We hope that through this program, Sierra Mirkinsk will be transformed from a "scarred landscape" where humans have destroyed nature and caused social disasters to a model of ecological restoration and social reconstruction.

02 Bee Utopia Protect the bees in the city

The number of bees in Barcelona has been declining in recent years due to urban development, habitat destruction and other reasons. Although people have made many efforts to protect bees in the city in recent years, the results are always unsatisfactory. The lack of urban green space, the lack of nectar sources, and the interruption of green space by urban roads are the main reasons for the decline in the number of bee settlements.

This design selects a linear green space between two large green spaces to discuss how space design can help bees migrate and reproduce better, and how people in the city can participate in this process. Starting from the natural phenomenon that bees divide in early spring every year to find a better place to live, we designed the plants and space in the site by analyzing the factors that affect bee colony selection. In this plan, humans mostly play the role of "guardians of bees". On the one hand, urban agriculture is introduced to better create a living area for bees by encouraging people to plant nectar plants on the site; on the other hand, a second-story bridge runs through the site, so that the original site was divided into broken pieces by urban roads and connected into a whole. DISCRIPTION

A campaign to make abandoned roofs accessible to the public.

Hong Kong is a city with extremely high residential density. The surface public green ​​ city are unevenly distributed and not fully open to spaces in the core area of the the public. Large business owners and high-income people not only have high-end community gardens, but also have access to rooftop gardens in high-end office buildings, hotels, shopping malls, etc. where status and financial resources are the threshold. However, for low- and middle-income people in Hong Kong, their daily residences are cramped and lack public green spaces, and they do not have the financial resources to access rooftop green spaces in high-end places. This distinction finally formed a "rooftop privileged class" differentiated by economic status, that is, the inequality of the civic landscape.

In order to eliminate this inequality and create a more inclusive civic space, this plan attempts to mobilize a citizen movement rather than simply designing a space. I started with a special group of people - people who climb stairs (people who like to explore the rooftops of some unopened high-rise buildings to take photos of the city). I used people who climbed stairs as clues to find the potential of abandoned roofs based on their exploration. Then we launched a co-construction activity that widely accepted the participation of property owners, residents, and climbers, introduced devices to the roof to form different roof usage types, and finally launched a bottom-up citizen movement calling for more openness and more people to participate.
