Myjourneyintoearlychildhoodeducationbeganinthelate1970s,when I madeadecision to change my majorfrom FashionMerchandising to Early Childhood Education. At thetime,Ibelieved thispath would allowme to raise my ownchildrenwhilealsobuildingameaningful career What I didn’t realizethen wasjusthowdeeplyI would fallin love with teaching andsupporting youngchildren.Themorehands-on experienceI gained, themore my passiongrew.
InJanuary1982,Iopened my firsthomedaycarein Fremont. Justtwo years later, in September1984, we begandesigning what wouldbecome TheLittle Mud Puddles LearningCenter Builtfromthe groundup to meet California Community Care Licensingstandardsand Fremontcity codes,ourdoors officiallyopenedonJune9,1986.Nearly fourdecadeslater, we continue to serve familieswiththesameheartanddedication.
Muchof my inspiration comesfrompersonal experience.As an identical twin withspeech andlanguagechallenges,Istruggledinschoolduring my early years.My teachers weren’tequipped to support my developmental needs, andunfortunately, thatled to negativeclassroom experiences. However, a compassionate speechtherapist workedwith my sisterand I for overeight years,helpingusgrowconfidentand expressive. Herimpact stayedwith me,fueling my desire to givechildrenwhatshegave to me:support, love, encouragement,andbeliefintheirpotential.
This wasthe foundation forcreatinga center rooted in compassion, education,andinclusivity. At LittleMud Puddles LearningCenter, we believeinthepower of earlyinterventionandnurturing every child’s unique strengths. We’re committed to workingcloselywith families, formingstrong partnershipsbuiltonmutualtrustand respect Our goalis to supporteach child’s well-being,development,andlifelong love oflearning.
Throughout my 43 yearsinchildcare,I’vealso worked to advocate for Early Care and Educationonabroaderlevel.Icurrentlyserve ontheAlameda County EarlyCare& EducationPlanningCouncil SteeringCommittee, andour center participatesintheAlamedaCountyQualityCountsprogram. Theseinitiatives helpus continuouslyimprove andensurethat we provide high-quality support forchildrenfrombirth to agefive.
