Love One Another February is a month filled with love. The exchanging of

sentimental heart-felt cards, chocolates and flowers are a sure sign that you are in love with that special someone. Valentine’s Day is a day when so many place an emphasis on love. Does God choose certain times of the year to love us? God loves each of us daily and unconditionally. The word “love” appears 314 times in the King James Version, 551 in the New International Version, 348 in the New American Standard Version and 538 in the New Revised Standard Version. Love is scattered throughout the Bible in many wonderful chapters. As Christians, we are to love one another as God loves us. One particular verse that many learn as children is John 3:16, “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

Deuteronomy 6:5 states “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.” These words need to be practiced daily in our walk with God. Love is such a small word on paper, yet it is said on a continuous basis in conversations with our spouse, children, extended family and friends. If you listen to God during your devotion time, you will feel His embracing love all around you. Throughout 2018, take notice of the number of times you reference the word love and let God know that you love Him as much as He loves you.

John 15:12 states “My command is this; Love each other as I have loved you.” This particular verse is crystal clear in its meaning. We are to love one another as God loves us. I hope you find this issue to be inspiring, and I encourage you to read every article, support the many faith-based advertisers and pass your copy on to a friend or family member so that they too will enjoy something positive.

6 Brain Damaging White Foods Statista.com tells us that 53% of US New Year’s Resolutions are to lose weight and/or exercise more. A University of Scranton study tells us that only 8% of us accomplish our New Year’s goals. So how are yours coming?

Instead of a New Year’s Resolution, how about a Brain Health Resolution?

Last month we talked about changing your diet to a paleo and/or keto diet, eating all natural foods would definitely drop off the pounds but be most beneficial for your livelihood, longevity and the health of your brains, your head brain and your gut brain.

It is our SAD, Standard American Diet or MAD, Modern American Diet that is damaging our brains, eventually leading to brain drain/brain fog and eventually dementia. Dementia is death of brain cells causing one’s cognition to fail.

The specific items in the MAD diet causing the most damage are:

Gluten Toxins Sugar

Gluten is a protein like substance

found in wheat, barley and rye.

No matter if the grain is whole or processed, gluten is there and these grains have to be avoided at all costs.

Dr. Alessio Fasano of Harvard Medical School is the king of gluten and author of Gluten Freedom. He informs us that

gluten destroys the lining of our gut and leads to chronic brain inflammation and Alzheimer’s and other dementias.

Toxins in our environment but especially in our foods, aluminum as an

emulsifier, mercury from our teeth filling melting and being absorbed when eating hot foods, preservatives and food colorings, all collect in our head brain and cause chronic brain inflammation.

Sugar is everywhere and creates insulin sensitivity in our brains.

Some forms of Alzheimer’s are otherwise known as Diabetes III. Director of Functional Medicine for The Cleveland Clinic, Dr. Mark Hyman, informs us that we create insulin in our head brain as well as in our pancreas, located in our gut brain. When our head brain cannot produce enough insulin to get nutrients into our brain cells, eventually we starve our brain. To uphold our NYResolution, eat for your brains, eat for healthy communication between brains. Avoid 6 Brain Damaging White Foods: rice, flour, potato (sweet and blue eaten moderately are okay), and corn (it’s white when processed). These four all turn to sugar which is #5 and the last, milk.

Valentine’s Day on a Dime

Lucy’s Panko Parmesan Chicken

OK, maybe you can’t do Valentine’s Day on a dime, but here are some budget-friendly ideas for making your Valentine’s Day special: (1) Go out for breakfast or lunch instead of dinner.

(2) Dress up and go to a fancy restaurant just for dessert and coffee. (3) Be a local tourist: (a) Do some hand-holding and birdwatching along the three-mile National Recreation Trail on Dauphin Island. (b) Drive over to Fairhope and enjoy a stroll around town and out on the city pier.

3-Ingredient Chocolate Cherry Cake

You’ll impress your sweetheart and your whole family with this super simple recipe. All you’ll need is a box of chocolate cake mix; a can of cherry pie filling; and ¾ cup of melted margarine (1 ½ sticks). Preheat the oven to 350.

Spray a 9x13 pan with nonstick cooking spray. Spread the pie filling evenly over the bottom of the pan. Sprinkle the dry cake mix evenly over the top of the pie filling. Drizzle the melted margarine evenly over the cake mix. Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until the edges are bubbly. Serve hot as is, or topped with vanilla or fudge marble ice cream drizzled with chocolate syrup.

Replace Those Old Floors

Instead of spending for real wood floors or throwing away money on laminate flooring that will easily warp if it ever gets wet, check out the new luxury vinyl floorings. Many of these thick, heavy-duty tiles are peel-‘n’-stick and look exactly like ceramic tile or even wood flooring, but are easy to cut and install yourself and can even be grouted. After several tiles in my laundry room cracked, I decided to give the luxury vinyl a try. It was so easy, I took up the old tile and installed the vinyl in only one day, albeit a very long day. It looked so good I went on to replace all my bathroom tile with vinyl.

I’ve gotten so many compliments on my new flooring and I never have to worry about another cracked tile.

Closing Thoughts

My Daddy used to tell me I needed my “wanter” turned off. I think a lot of us would do well to heed Daddy’s advice. The Old Testament prophet Habakkuk addressed this issue: “Woe to him who heaps up what is not his own” (Habakkuk 2:6b, ESV). The NIV goes on to say: “Will not your debtors suddenly arise? Will they not wake up and make you tremble? Then you will become their victim” (Habakkuk 2:7). Strong words, but if you’re being haunted by overdue debts, you can certainly relate to feeling like a victim.

Ingredients:

2-4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts 1/2 cup flour 2 eggs Kosher salt Black pepper Olive oil Butter

Breading: 2/3 cup panko bread crumbs, or original breadcrumbs 1/3 cup Parmesan cheese, grated 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano 1/4 teaspoon chipotle chili powder 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt

Preparation

Breading: stir panko breadcrumbs, parmesan cheese, garlic powder, dried oregano, chipotle chili powder, and kosher salt together in a bowl. Pour onto a plate or shallow dish.

Pour flour onto a plate or shallow dish. Place eggs in a shallow bowl or dish. Whisk.

Place 1 boneless skinless chicken breast in a gallon size plastic storage bag.

Use a meat mallet, rolling pin or heavy skillet to pound out the meat evenly all the way across to make it a thin chicken breast, about 1/4 inch thick.

Repeat with all chicken breasts.

Sprinkle pounded chicken breasts with a little kosher salt and black pepper. Coat chicken with flour on both sides. Then dip into the egg mixture.

Coat on both sides with egg. Then dip into the panko Parmesan mixture.

Coat on both sides.

Place breaded chicken breasts into a large skillet heated over medium high heat with 2 tbsp. olive oil and 1 tbsp. butter. Cook until lightly browned 1-2 minutes. Flip over and cook 1-2 minutes on other side.

Transfer chicken breasts to a baking sheet or keep chicken in the same skillet you sautéed it in. Bake at 350 degrees for 10-12 minutes until chicken is cooked through.

Frederick Douglass, Prophet of Freedom Historian David W. Blight’s biography, Frederick Douglass, Prophet of Freedom (Simon and Shuster), has captured the attention of the literary world. It is, in my assessment, simply superb. Douglass was one of the great Americans of the nineteenth century, and Blight has given us a biography worthy of such greatness. As a young, uneducated fugitive slave, Douglass began preaching to a handful of men. A decade later he was the most famous black man in the world. If America had a prophet in the nineteenth century, it was Frederick Douglass.

The most dangerous place in the world is within the gaze of a prophet of God. Prophets possess a proclivity to shatter the status quo, jerking us out of our delusions of safety and comfort. They rip away our facades of righteousness, exposing that which we prefer to remain hidden. When God sends forth a David W. ing language rich with the scriptures, Douglass traveled the northern states and Britain, calling for the end of slavery. Like Jeremiah, Amos, and John the Baptist, Douglass called not only the sinners and slaveholders to account, but also those who believed themselves to be righteous.

No one was exempt from his fierce gaze, not even the President or members of the clergy.

Douglass, like the prophets, aimed his sharpest rhetoric at those who worshiped God on the Sabbath and yet were complicit in the systemic oppression of their fellow man throughout the week.

As I read Blight’s work on Douglass, I found myself hoping God would send a new prophet to our nation, someone uniquely graced by God with words of power and fire and judgement. We need an anointed advocate for justice, someone who isn’t afraid to call out wickedness in high places. We need a voice for the poor and the oppressed, the imprisoned and the stranger among us. We need another John or Jeremiah to call God's people to repentance. We need another Frederick.

Get Them All It was the first of December and I was wrapping up an after-work trip to Costco. I placed my empty shopping cart in the cart return and turned to walk back to my vehicle when I noticed a couple of other carts abandoned very near the return stall.

I grabbed those two as well and put them away. Then I noticed four more errant carts that were not so close to the return, and that’s when I heard it. That still small voice I have learned to recognize saying, “get those four as well”.

I paused briefly but retrieved the first two carts and put them away. Then as I looked at the remaining two carts further away, I stopped. The other voice I have also learned to recognize, the not so still and not so small voice, chimed in….

“You didn’t leave them there. Your son is waiting in the truck. You had a long day at work. It is starting to rain”. My response was clear as a bell, “I’m done here”. With that I walked to my truck and drove home.

It didn’t take long after driving away to realize that I had failed to finish what I was asked to do.

Fast forward a few weeks to the same Costco parking lot. It’s dark, close to closing time, temperature is in the low forties and it is windy with a steady sideways drizzling rain. I returned my cart to the stall and put away the two carts that were abandoned conveniently next to the return stall.

As I turned to walk to my vehicle, I noticed an unusually large number of abandoned shopping carts. They were scattered throughout the sprawling Costco parking lot like a herd of grazing cattle. I suppose the weather had a lot to do with it, certainly easier to just abandon them and go home.

Out of the blue I clearly heard that still small voice again. This time it said, “Get them all”.

At the end of the day I have no idea why God asked me to put those carts away. I only know that He asked me. That part I am sure of.

For me personally, a completed assignment. After all, if God can’t trust me with His small jobs how can He ever trust me with His big ones?

For the calling that was placed on me, which is to encourage others towards Christ through writing, another story to share relaying how God works, and is at work, in my life.

God’s work in our lives never ceases but, in my experience, there is no predicting when a divine request or encounter will occur. Additionally, obedient service isn’t always glamorous by worldly terms. Sometimes it is wet, cold, slightly painful, even anonymous to the beneficiary, and I’m cool with that.

Get in the boat. Do your part.

Every week, I used to watch my dad give to others that were less fortunate than we were. He helped them put food on the tables for their families. That really taught me a lot about giving and helping others to achieve for themselves. It’s not about me. It’s not about you. It’s really about what we can do for others according to the Godly principles the Bible teaches us. This is what I teach my son every day. I love to help others be healthy and get well. That is what I do. Get people well… naturally!

Being a Doctor of Natural Medicine, I don’t prescribe drugs of any type. We use Nutritional Medicine, Herbal Medicine and Homeopathic Medicine to help our patients get well and stay healthy for life. God’s medicine is the key. He is truly the Master Physician and only He can heal you. However you (the patient) must be willing to listen and do His work.

I see and take care of patients from all over the world. When I first started in 1983, I set my business up for this. I knew Mobile was a small market and I was not satisfied with just taking care of the locals. People all over the world needed help with proper diet and training. I grew my business pretty quickly by traveling all over the world to get educated in Naturopathic Medicine, Nutrition and Herbal Medicine. I started helping people in these countries, as well as cities in the United States, get well and truly understand what their personal health issues and problems were. I built a following from all over world. That has always been my goal.

When I was a young kid, I started studying health and disease at the age of 5. I knew we had a problem in this country. I could not figure out why my friends were missing school all the time. My mother would tell me that they were missing school because they were sick, not feeling well. I did not understand what sick was. After all, I had never been sick or missed a day of school, ever. What was sick supposed to feel like, and why does someone have to get sick and not feel well? So I started studying my grandfather’s medical books.

After many years of studying, I learned that nowhere in his medical books did they discuss or talk about getting people healthy. It was all about prescribing drugs and performing operations. I told myself, ‘something is wrong here’.

In 1886, my grandfather was the first Medical Doctor in Springhill, AR. He taught me a lot about medicine and the human body before he passed. I was very fortunate also because my uncle was a Medical Doctor. I got to study all his college text books, as well. I continued learning about medicine and biochemistry from him. Before I was 12 years of age I had already read 175 medical books on every aspect of the human body. Very early in my life I knew where I was headed. My uncle told me at the age of 12, “You need to be a Doctor of Natural Medicine, which is called Naturopathic Medicine, because you are so interested in nutrition and finding out the real cause of illness. This would a perfect avenue for you.” I told him that is really what I wanted to do. I wanted to be the world’s greatest nutritionist. Being in the Natural Health Care field has been very rewarding to me. I thank God every day for giving me this clear path to a profession that I have such a huge passion for. I love to see people get well and walk out of our facility with a smile on their face. When we combine our nutrition programs with our personal training we see incredible results. This is what it’s all about - real results done the natural way. No drugs. No steroids. Just correct diet, proper training and the right supplements to assist the body’s individual needs.

My dad instilled that in me from the time he first put a ball in my hand. Being a son of a professional athlete certainly can be tough at times, especially when it’s time to practice. My dad was an amazing baseball and basketball player so I took to those two sports maybe a little more because I wanted to be like my dad.

the World Karate Championships twice has been a real dream. Jimmy, Jr., has been alongside me when I personally won 13 of my 15 Overall World Karate and Kung-Fu Titles. I thank the Lord every day for him in addition to what God has done in my own life. Being able to help others achieve better health, a fit body and sound mind is very special to me. It is truly a gift.

My mother was amazing.

She taught me a lot about having a great attitude and ‘class’. If my parents were here today, I would tell them how much I appreciate the love, respect, honor, discipline and character traits they taught me coming up. I saw it every day with them at home and work every day at teaching this to my son. Hopefully he will carry it on, as well.

1 on 1 with Jason S. Greene: The Wall Squat Living in the golden age of the computer comes with many advantages. Unfortunately it also comes with a few draw backs as well, and most of them are physical in nature. Most of us sit way too much, and way too long. This has also led to an increase in poor posture and back pain. All of us could benefit from more exercise during the day, so I’ve decided to do a series of exercises that can be done practically anywhere, anytime. Preferably exercises that don’t take too long, and will not make you sweaty. Most of you will be doing this at work and no one likes a stinky co-worker. I think this exercise does a pretty good job of meeting all of the above criteria. This is not a complicated exercise, but if you perform it a few times a week you may be surprised at the difference it can may in how you look and feel.

1. Start with your back against a wall with your feet shoulder width and about two feet from the wall.

2. Press your lower back and hips into the wall.

3. Slowly walk your feet forward as you slide your back down the wall until your thighs are parallel to the ground. Roughly at a 90 degree angle.

4. Adjust your feet if you need to so that your knees are directabove your ankles not your toes (You shouldn’t be able to see your toes).

5. Keep your back and hips flat against the wall.

6. Hold the position for 1-3 minutes, rest 30 seconds, and repeat the exercise three times.

7. Increase your hold time by five seconds as you increase your strength.

8. If you experience any pain in the knees raise your body up the wall to relieve the pressure.

9. Walk around a little bit between sets.

Modified Wall Squat: You may need to modify your position or the length of your hold the first few times you try this exercise.

• To decrease the intensity of the wall sit, don’t slide down the wall quite as far. Aim for a 45 -degree angle at the hips rather than a 90-degree angle. This will take a bit of pressure off your knees and lighten the load on the quadriceps (front of the thigh).

• Another way to modify the exercise is to hold the position for a shorter amount of time at first and increase your hold time, as you get stronger. Try a five or ten second hold in the beginning.

• To increase intensity, hold weights or squeeze a ball between your knees.

Forms of Calcium

Which form of calcium is the most absorbable?” And wonder what the differences are between the various options? To help clear up some of the confusion associated with this important mineral, I’ve compiled information on the common forms of supplemental calcium available. The most basic form of calcium available is calcium carbonate. This form must go through approximately 12 chemical reactions in order to become a form the body can use, and is usually sourced from limestone. At 40 percent elemental calcium, it is the densest form available; however with an absorption rate of 7 to 8 percent it is the least absorbable.

The side effects of calcium carbonate may include alkalization of the stomach, and an increased risk of kidney stones. Calcium carbonate must be taken with food and is not recommended for anyone who has low stomach acid levels.

One of the most popular forms available is calcium citrate (the calcium salt of citric acid). It contains 21 percent elemental calcium, so although there is less calcium per pill than the carbonate form, it is better absorbed. Calcium citrate is the preferred form of calcium for anyone with low stomach acid levels.

There are no known side effects with this form.

Calcium lactate is the calcium salt of lactic acid, and changes to calcium bicarbonate (the type used by the body) in one chemical step. It is highly soluble in water and does not depend on an acidic environment, so it is another form that is ideal for those with low stomach acid. This is also the form of calcium found in milk. Calcium phosphate/calcium hydrogen phosphate or microcrystalline hydroxyapatite (MCHA) is a form of calcium that is found in human bone structure and tooth enamel. The source of MCHA supplements is usually bovine bone. A 1995 randomized placebo-controlled study of 40 people in Europe found that it was more effective than calcium carbonate in slowing bone loss. Many MCHA supplements also contain minerals (mag-

nesium, zinc, copper, manganese, potassium), vitamins (vitamin C, vitamin D3, vitamin K2 as MK-7), and trace minerals (boron, silica, strontium, and vanadium), all of which are necessary to build healthy bone matrix. There is an exciting new trend in calcium supplementation that involves using plant forms of calcium, including those sourced from sea vegetables: lithothamnium calcareum, lithothamnium coralloides, and algas calcareous.

Because these forms of calcium are so well absorbed by the body, lower doses are quite effective in achieving gains in bone mass. Along with the form of calcium you decide to take, it is also important to include the vitamins and minerals that will facilitate the proper growth of bone tissue. Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) is an essential component of healthy bone, and can be taken separately or in combination with calcium. In addition, 60 percent of the body’s magnesium is stored in bone tissue, and it is an important element in the formation of bone protein. I personally use and sell from my company Elemental Calcium which is absorbed at the highest rate available, 97.5% which is clearly the best you can get period.

In regard to dosage, it is best to take calcium in smaller doses throughout the day to aid absorption and preferably pre bed about 9pm. Avoid taking more than 500-1000 milligrams or ppm of calcium at one time and allow 4 to 6 hours between doses. Depending on your age and sex, an adult requires between 1,000 and 1,500 mg of calcium on a daily basis. I build custom formulas for all my patients and we always make sure their calcium is included in my products. So bone up with the right source of calcium and watch good things start to take place. Be healthy, it’s always worth it.

IRS Giving a Break to Some Taxpayers Who Under-prepaid Their 2018 Taxes Taxpayers are required to pre-pay their taxes for any tax year through payroll withholding, estimated tax payments or a combination of the two.

Employees and retirees generally accomplish this through withholding, and self-employed individuals and those with investment income by paying quarterly estimated payments.

The late-2017 passage of tax reform that became effective for 2018 and its radical changes added considerable confusion for taxpayers trying to determine how much they should prepay for 2018. This confusion was made worse because the existing W-4 that employees complete and that their employers use to determine the correct withholding was designed for prior law and does not work well with the new tax law. As a result, there has been ongoing concern by the IRS that many taxpayers will end up owing tax this year when they file their 2018 returns, even though they got a tax reduction due to the tax reform changes, simply because their pre-payments through withholding and estimated tax payments were not enough.

For most of 2018, the IRS was issuing alerts that taxpayers may be under-withheld because of tax reform and the fact the W-4 could no longer be relied upon to produce a correct withholding amount.

Taxpayers whose pre-payments are less than certain safe harbor amounts are penalized. Those safe harbors are: • 90% of the current year’s tax liability or • 100% of the prior year’s tax liability (110% where the prior year AGI is over • $150,000 ($75,000 if married and filing separate returns).

Recently several members of Congress have called upon the IRS to waive underpayment penalties for 2018. On January 16, 2019, although not waiving the penalties entirely, the IRS did change the current year safe harbor from 90% of the 2018 tax liability to 85%, providing a break for some taxpayers.

Even if you don’t meet one of the safe-harbor exceptions, a waiver of the penalty for 2018 may apply if you: Retired (after reaching age 62) or became disabled in 2017 or 2018.

You did not make payments because of one of the following situations and it would be inequitable to impose the penalty: a. Casualty b. Disaster, or c. Other unusual circumstance.

There are two other exceptions to the penalty for 2018: • If the total tax shown on your 2018 return minus the tax that was withheld is less than $1,000, you will not owe a penalty.

• If you had no tax liability in 2017, were a U.S. citizen or resident alien for all of 2017, and your 2017 return was for a full 12 months (or would have been had you been required to file), you won’t be charged an under-prepayment penalty.

In addition, where your tax liability and /or tax pre-payments were uneven, the penalty amount may be mitigated by figuring it on a quarterly basis.

relationship takes a back seat then you can expect resentments. Research suggest that healthy couples spend an average of 10-15 hours per week of non-sleep/ non-T.V. time together. So reconnect with date nights, shared walks, pillow talk, etc. Creating a healthy balance of your time & attention will help you and your partner feel safe & secure.

Forgive – As difficult as it may be, choosing NOT to forgive is a death sentence to your relationship. When we forgive, we free ourselves from the pain that

controls us and the relationship. Forgiveness also reiterates that the person is more important to you than the hurtful act. A heartfelt apology along with a sincere acceptance allows the relationship to grow and move forward with unconditional love.

Romance – “Woo” your partner as you did to “Win” your partner. Whether you hold hands, share an intimate kiss, or in a little PDA, keeping romance alive

is the heartbeat of your relationship. Take nothing for granted. Sharing your love and appreciation reassures your commitment & vastly improves your relationship.

Evaluate – Take the time to review your relationship growth or lack of growth. Your relationship anniversary is an excellent time to

Seeking to Improve Your Love Life? Consider the S-3 Concept Someone once asked me if I was a “relationship expert.” When the group I was with stopped laughing, I had to explain that, no, I am far from being an expert in pretty much anything. They then followed up with “then why are you teaching at this marriage conference?” This very fun back and forth ended with me simply explaining that what I love to do is share with anyone about the things I have learned, have put into practice, and have further developed to help any brothers or sisters who God puts in my path. Both human, both equally valuable, but different in how life is approached in basic ways: Men like things, women like people Men are hunters, women are gatherers Men protect, women nurture Men have sex, women make love It is amazing how many men and women resist recognizing or discussing their differences. But these differences are the fingerprints of our actual behavior, not what society tells us we are supposed to be like, but what we are actually like. Understand, these behaviors are neither good nor bad. They

are simply who we are. Birds fly, frogs croak, horses sleep standing up, and men and women do what they do. A loving intimate marriage relationship will leave room for gender differences without assuming the other is wrong.

It is from this assumption I created the “S-3” concept, a simple teaching that allows for couples to recognize and relate to three very similar things that are immensely important to both and yet viewed completely different from the others perspective. These three things are:

1.Sensitivity 2.Security 3.Sex Make no mistake, men are just as sensitive as women, but in a very different way. Security, whether it be physical, emotional, financial, is very high on everyone’s list. How it is viewed in a day to day walk is where the disconnects can be amplified. Many times, these disconnects are unnecessary. Reconnecting with basic understanding of the healthy differences between spouses can be awesome for couples when these fundamental differences are understood.

Same with sex. As we appreciate actual differences, it makes a couple stronger and they have a path to witness breakthroughs. It’s a wonderful thing. A great marriage is worth the effort.
