2020 is the 400th anniversary of the Mayflower Pilgrims sailing to America for a new life. Bassetlaw Museum and the Pilgrims Gallery have worked hard to create a series of exciting events to commemorate this momentous year. One of the highlights has been building links with the Wampanoag Nation, the indigenous people that already inhabited the land. This partnership was to culminate in a group of indigenous American people travelling to work with the Pilgrims Gallery and Museum team, to build a Wetu (a shelter) and work with local schools and children in the Bassetlaw area, educating us all with their skills, story-telling and crafts. This collaborative event has been postponed until 5th - 11th June next year, due to the current COVID situation, but if your school would be interested in getting involved, please let us know. This will be a once in a lifetime opportunity for local students to meet and learn from this wonderful tribe of people.
