Bask in the Sun est une expression anglaise qui peut se traduire par «lézarder au soleil» ou «être sous une bonne étoile». C’est aussi un double sens pour affirmer l’origine géographique de ce label textile situé au Pays Basque, une région située à cheval entre la France et l’Espagne.

“Bask in the Sun” gives a good feeling reminding about pleasant and lovely moments: relaxing in a bright and warm place but also, the care coming from the others. It has also been chosen to emphasize on the geographical origins of the brand coming from the Bask Country, an area located between France and Spain.

Les collections de Bask in the Sun sont conçues «les pieds dans l’eau» à Guéthary, un village au bord de l’océan atlantique où se retrouvent des surfeurs venus du monde entier pour profiter des vagues et de la culture locale. Si on regarde à gauche, c’est les montagnes des Pyrénées, à droite l’océan à perte de vue et au dessus les étoiles ! Dans tous les cas de grands espaces !

Bask in the Sun est très imprégné de tout ça : les embruns salés, le sentiment de liberté et ce cadre majestueux. Il était écrit «Le vrai luxe, c’est le temps que l’on se donne pour vivre dans le décor que l’on se créé» sur le premier tee shirt réalisé. Ça donne le ton et ça reste notre ligne de conduite.

Bask in the Sun’s collections are designed “feet in the water” at Guéthary, a village on the Atlantic Ocean nearshore, where surfers from the all world come to enjoy the waves and the local culture. When looking on the left, you will appreciate the Pyrénées, on the right, the ocean as far as the eye can see, and above, the stars!

In all case, only wide-open spaces!

Bask in the Sun is very inspired by all of it: the sea sprays, the feeling of freedom and the majestic surrounding. On the first t-shirt which has been designed by Bask in the Sun, it was write “True luxury is the time we take to live in the setting we create”. This sets the tone and remains the idea behind our concept.

L’identité de la jeune marque créé en 2012 c’est aussi le parcours atypique de son créateur, Tito, entre une tradition familiale vieille de trois générations dédiée au linge basque et son expérience du prêt-à-porter aux côtés des stylistes japonais Issey Miyake et Kenzo Takada.

The brand identity created in 2012, comes from the atypical experience of its owner, Tito: raised in a family working since 3 generations in the famous bask textile and having a long experience in the fashion market, working with Japanese fashion designers like Issey Miyake and Kenzo Takada.

A l’origine, l’idée de Tito, c’est d’éditer quelques tees shirts comme supports de photos et d’illustrations réalisées par quelques amis talentueux. Il imagine le textile comme les murs d’une galerie, comme un support pour mettre en avant des créations.

L’idée initiale est restée, chaque collection est l’occasion d’imprimer une douzaine d’œuvres réalisées par des plasticiens, des illustrateurs, des artistes ou des architectes d’ici ou d’ailleurs.

Le cercle d’amis s’est élargi, Bask in the Sun collabore maintenant avec des auteurs venus d’Israel, de Colombie, de Grèce, des Etats Unis, du Chili… et du Pays Basque bien sûr !

Bask in the Sun c’est aujourd’hui trois personnes absolument complémentaires (Tito, Christophe et François) qui conçoivent et commercialisent une garde robe pour homme de plus en plus complète avec des tops, des bottoms et des accessoires.

L’idée c’est de créer au fil des saisons des pièces basiques fonctionnelles, dont ils améliorent la qualité ou un détail à chaque saison, pour les voir s’imposer progressivement comme des incontournables. Il n’y a que des avantages à cette démarche : les produits sont toujours meilleurs et ils deviennent les véritables ambassadeurs de la marque.

Originally the idea of Tito was to use the t-shirts as a support for the pictures or illustrations made by talented friends.

He imagines the textile as a gallery wall to highlight creative art. The initial idea has remained, each collection is the opportunity to print different pieces of art done by illustrators, artists, photographers or architects from the whole world, as Israel, Colombia, Greece, United States, Chile…and of course the Bask Country !

Nowadays, Bask in the Sun represent three entirely complementary persons (Tito, Christophe & François) who design and sell a men wardrobe with a wide range of references of t-shirts, bottoms and accessories.

The main idea is to create basic seasonal items, improving seasonally the quality and the design, in order to make them essential. This way of working is an advantageous one: products get better and better and become the brand’s ambassadors.

Tous les vêtements sont fabriqués dans des ateliers familiaux, pas loin de l’océan, dans la région de Braga au Portugal. L’équipe de Bask in the Sun va sur place plusieurs fois par an pour affiner des idées, développer des matières et finaliser chaque détail des pièces de la collection.

Le coton utilisé pour les tees shirts, les débardeurs et les doublures est certifié d’origine biologique par le label international GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard). C’est l’assurance de produire un textile avec un impact écologique minimum et réalisé dans des conditions de travail respectueuses de la personne.

D’un côté, c’est une contrainte pour un jeune label textile de faire réaliser en Europe et en petite série des produits en coton organique.

Mais de l’autre, c’est une fierté d’avoir des revendeurs qui choisissent Bask in the Sun pour ses produits en coton biologique et son image liée à la nature, à l’océan et au bien vivre.

All clothing are produced in family manufactures, close to the ocean, in the area of Braga, in Portugal. The Bask in the Sun team travels there several time a year to develop ideas, improve the materials and finalize details of each collection’s pieces.

The cotton material used in the manufacture of the t-shirts, tank tops and linings, is certified GoTS (Global organic Textile Standard), an international standard defining requirements to ensure organic status of textiles from harvesting of the raw materials through environmentally and socially responsible manufacturing.

It is a credible assurance to the end consumer to manufacture in Europe and in small serial number items in organic cotton. Next to that, we are proud to deal with resellers who have selected Bask in the Sun for its biological items and its brand’s image related to the nature, to the ocean and to a quality life.

Pour l’été 2014, Bask in the Sun s’offre une collaboration avec Ozed Eyewear et édite un pack original limité à 100 exemplaires : une paire de lunettes en bois et un bob livrés dans un coffret gravé au laser contenant également quelques matériaux naturels ramassés sur la plage.

Les deux labels ont choisi de travailler avec une matière originale pour réaliser les montures des lunettes : le bois de poirier (Pirus Communis en latin, l’expression donne son nom au pack). Chaque paire est unique, numérotée et peinte à la main sur une partie des branches avec une laque mate.

L’imprimé du bob et la gravure de la boite reprennent le thème du fruit, des feuilles et des fleurs de poirier. Ils sont réalisés à partir d’une illustration dessinée en 1885 par le botaniste allemand Otto Wilhelm Thomé.

In 2014, Bask in the Sun has cooperated with Ozed Eyewear and has come out with a limited edition of a set including one pair of wood sunglasses with a summer hat delivered together in a special package including natural materials from the beach.

Both brands have chosen to work with a natural material to produce the sunglasses’ frame: pear wood (Pirus Communis, in latin, which has given its name to the set). Each sunglasses are unique, referenced and partly hand crafted with a matte top coat.

The pattern of the hat fabric is the same as the one used on the box and is representing the fruit, the leafs and the flower of the pear tree. The pattern has been designed based on an illustration made by a German botanist in 1885, Otto Wilhelm ThomĂŠ.
