The green Boarder

3rd Year Project | Fall

Design Problem:

How do you design urban interior and nature influenced spatial experiences that consider culture, values, and resiliency while promoting education, growth, and equitable access to healthy foods?

The Green Border is a reimagined space within a 11,490 square-foot parking lot in Lincoln’s historic Haymarket. Inspired by the historical link between food and urban development, this design integrates three greenhouses along the building’s sides, supplying fresh produce to key areas like a communal kitchen, market, and co-working zone. These greenhouses are vital to reconnecting urban residents with the source of their food, making healthy eating an integral part of daily life.

This project revitalizes the urban interior by embedding nature within the city, offering a sustainable, educational, and culturally rich experience that fosters community and wellbeing.

The Green Boarder

Design Problem: How do you design urban interior nature-influenced spatial experiences considering culture, values, and resiliency while promoting education, growth, and equitable access to healthy foods?

This design of the The Green Boarder was inspired by the idea of how food shaped cities in the past. Before trains and the different ways of shipping food, cities were defined by the roads that bring each type of food. Therefore, there are three greenhouses on the sides of the building. In between the three greenhouses, some programs are supplied by the greenhouses mainly, like the kitchen, and the market. Aside from the main programs, fruits produced can be used in the co-worker zone to supply workers with healthy and fresh food. This project aims to provide a new source of fresh and healthy food to space users.

Physical Elment

This part of my project helps define and separate spaces. As shown in the eidetic, it works as a suspended ceiling element or a space divider. In both use cases, it allows for some level of transparency and defines spaces. when it is suspended, I used it to have the name of the space, like the market, the coffee shop, and the restaurant. On the other hand, when it is dividing two spaces it can serve also as a biophilic element to reinforce the intention of the entire space.

4th Capstone Project

Project Statement:

This project is about making a special place that celebrates Arab traditions that takes a place in Gateway Mall. It’s a welcoming spot for everyone to enjoy. At its heart, you’ll find delicious Arab food, coffee, and music. Around this, we’ll have a setup like a traditional Arab market, with lots of little shops. Our main aim is to offer a fun and easy way for people to experience the rich culture and daily life of Arab communities.

Project Goals:

Authentic Arab Experience: Focus on creating an environment that truly reflects Arab traditions. This includes selecting genuine Arab music, cuisine, and coffee.

Cultural Marketplace: Design the area to resemble a traditional Arab souq, with various small shops offering a range of items.

Community Engagement and Inclusiveness: Ensuring the center remains a welcoming and accessible space for every visitor is vital.

Final Concept

I transformed the design approach from focusing on the walls to creating a space through the use of Islamic patterns, which are deeply rooted in Arab culture, to shape the environment and circulation.

Above Arch Hall

4th

Year Collaporation Project

Team:

Basil Al Battashi, Kimberly Cooper, Sreemedha Chintamadaka, Lydia Kramer, Kayden Lichtas

Project Description:

Above Architecture Hall is a rooftop design proposal by FACT for the north addition of Architecture Hall (designed by NADAAA + HDR).

The roof deck will serve as an amenity space for the college, providing a break from studio, classroom, and office environments. It will host both casual gatherings and formal events. The design includes concrete and wooden tiles for the floor, shading structures, seating, a work table, and greenery. A 5-Ply CLT canopy, supported by a “wallumn” and steel columns, will provide shade, while moveable CLT “SeaTables” can function as chairs, tables, benches, or a stage. The canopy, wallumn, and SeaTables will be cut from a single CLT blank, minimizing waste and allowing students to visualize the construction process. Additionally, a green wall will be installed as a biophilic element. The overall design focuses on comfort, functionality, and flexibility.

Storyboard and Animation

For this project, I created a short animation video to present our group’s design concept. The video highlights key elements of the rooftop proposal, showcasing the CLT canopy, “SeaTables,” and other design features. I’ve included a storyboard with side-by-side still images from the animation. A link and QR code to the full animation are provided for an interactive experience.

Bench Physical Model Process

In the “Above Arch Hall” project, I collaborated with Sreemedha Chintamadaka and Lydia Kramer to design and create a CLT (Cross-Laminated Timber) slab for a rooftop space. My contributions included the initial design concepts for the benches, as well as the detailed drawings that guided the construction of these elements. The project focused on sustainable design, minimizing material waste, and creating functional, flexible seating solutions that could serve multiple purposes on the rooftop.

Product Animation Onsor

Onsor 050 Laptop Launch Animation |

In collaboration with Omar Al Ghailani, we created a dynamic and visually engaging animation for Onsor’s launch of their second-generation O50 laptop. The project involved conceptualizing and executing a series of shots that highlight the laptop’s sleek design, advanced features, and user interface. Using a combination of 3D modeling and motion graphics, we brought Onsor’s vision to life, ensuring that the animation effectively communicated the product’s innovation and appeal. The final animation was used as a key promotional piece during the product’s launch, showcasing our ability to blend technical precision with creative storytelling.

3D Product Animation Study: In this project, I recreated existing product animations to explore and refine techniques in lighting and directing. The still images reflect my focus on capturing the visual essence and mood of the original designs.

These sculptures are the result of my study of anatomy, focusing on detailed form and structure to create visually compelling pieces.
