THE BIG FREEZE Council Tax is Frozen for Third Year In A Row An ambitious budget packed with investments, alongside a council tax freeze for the third consecutive year, has been announced by Basildon Council. Despite the continuing tough economic climate and major reductions in central Government funding, residents will pay less council tax than they did four years ago, following a cut in 2011. Leader of the council, Tony Ball, said: “Local residents are still feeling the pinch and I believe that local councils must do what they can to relieve the burden on hard pressed and hard working families, whilst continuing to deliver good services. “That is why I am pleased we are presenting a council tax freeze and a range of new investments that will benefit local people throughout the

borough.” Cllr Stuart Sullivan, cabinet member for resources, said: “Sound financial management and running a tight ship has allowed us to remain ambitious and put local people at the heart of what we do. “Not only does this budget outline savings and investments, it also makes sure that we retain appropriate levels of reserves to manage uncertainties that we may face in the future. “Prudence is a major priority of this council, and is the very reason why despite the challenging times we are financially secure.” The budget was approved by Full Council in February.
