Jan ten Broeke, aka Ten, is a Dutch/ American, self-taught artist. In Memorium: 1930-2019

"Inspired by nature, biology, and history, my work's abstract forms, characterized by biomorphic shapes and evolutionary forces, combine structures with forms typically found in nature. The fluidity of the shapes as they push and pull against each other gives them the lifelike appearance of organisms from ancient times "

"Ultimately, my mind, eyes, and hands are merely instrumental in producing this work Despite knowing better, I frequently experience the sensation that the work is not created by me but through me. My art has a chance for limited survival, but I know my body does not "

MICHAEL DIMURA “DARK DIMENSIONS”

VIRTUAL CATALOGUE EXCLUSIVE ARTIST

“...comicbookartand classiccovers...”

My name is Michael Dimura. Born and raised in Middlesex County, I currently live with my wife and daughter in Carteret. I’m a self-taught artist and woodworker and have now been exclusively putting a new spin on the old art form of Pyrography for 4 years. I combine comic book art and classic covers and wood burning. Each piece is transferred to the wood by hand through the use of carbon paper, I then hand burn it in using different shape and thickness wire tips to show texture and direction. After that I use oil based colored pencils to add the color before staining it and giving it a Satin clear coat for protection. I use oil-based pencils, so the stain doesn’t push out any of the color.

DOTTIE MCKENNA APPEARING AT BARRONFEST 2024

“...teachingandconstructing.”

I have been doing stained glass projects for well over 25-years after being introduced to the craft by a church friend. Early on I took a number of elementary and intermediate classes in the craft from the East Brunswick Rec. Department. I started in the beginning with little suncatchers and have now worked up through large stained glass panels, lamps and hangings we’ve used in church at Christmastime. I have been an exhibitor and demonstrator at the Middlesex County Fair for many years. As a demonstrator my role was to show the fairgoers the process of creating stained glass projects from cutting the individual pieces to soldering the whole offering together. I really enjoy the days I spend at the fair teaching and constructing. I have worked, for a brief time, in a studio helping to repair a damaged church window but my preference is panels and hangings of varying sizes. As future projects I would like to make some panels for the narrow windows next to my front door and stained glass windows for architectural use in residences. I have just begun a project to construct a large “Martin Luther’s Seal” to be hung in a Lutheran Church in East Brunswick By trainingIamaRegisteredCertifiedCriticalCareNursewithaBachelorofNursing Science degree from the University of Wisconsin. I also studied at Indiana University/Purdue University – Indianapolis. My specialty is Intensive Care and IV Therapy Nursing and I’ve worked in hospitals in Madison & La Crosse, WI, IndianapolisandNewBrunswick

SIERRA MILLS

APPEARING AT BARRONFEST 2024

My name is Sierra Mills, I'm 30 years old and I've dabbled in various art mediums. I've been drawing since I was a child, taken primary school art classes, and studied architecture in college for 3 years. I'm mainly self-taught based on what I've felt like creating. Though my special interests can sadly veer far too often to online fiction and video games than putting pencil to paper. My art has generally remained something for myself and friends. Not my cat, shereceivesbettertreatsthanmydoodles!

I usually learn different styles or have muses vary based on the medium I work in. My acrylic paintings are subject to my fantasies of space. Less a case for realism of astral bodies and more my thoughts of existence beyond myself. I've spent hours with my pieces, adding water and liquid paint to let them drip and swirl. My canvases being a mixture of uncontrollable forces and me with my brush trying to further shapeit.

JULIE NEMETZ

APPEARING AT BARRONFEST 2024

As a long-time Woodbridge resident, I'm a graphic artist and project manager with a creative spirit at heart. A few years ago, when I began working from home, I sought an outlet to fill the time that was oncespentcommutingtoworkandcaring for my family, and I also wanted to nourish my artistic soul. I tried sketching, photography, and other creative pursuits, but nothing resonated like the art of macrame. I was pleasantly surprised by the versatility of macrame, far beyond the familiarplanthangersand70s-stylebelts. Oneofmyearliestprojectswasapiecefor my grandson’s nursery, which sparked a deeper passion for this intricate craft. Today, I create custom macrame pieces and host engaging workshops that bring this timeless art to life one knot at a time. The process of turning an idea into a finished piece, from mind to paper to workspace, bringsmegreatjoy.
