Administrative Staff

I would like to take this opportunity to give a big “shout out” to all our staff who worked so hard this past summer! We were fortunate to hire 134 seasonal staff to work in our camps, parks, programs and at the pool. Many of our staff members took on extra hours/shifts and rallied to support each other when needed. I would like to extend my deepest gratitude and thanks to: The lifeguards, slide attendants, swim instructors and pool desk attendants who worked extra shifts and attended hours of training. They kept everyone in and around the pool safe during the extreme heat and crowded times. All of our camp staff and counselors who created a fun and positive experience for each and every camper. Our parks crew who worked tirelessly while being short staffed, making sure our parks and facilities were ready for the season. The fitness team who continue to offer a variety of fitness programs and memberships to help keep both our mind and bodies fit. Our instructors who provided participants with new, creative and fun activities helping to cultivate an environment of growth and learning. The front desk staff who processed thousands of registrations and assisted patrons with their questions. They always provide a friendly entrance with a welcoming smile and hello! Without the staff that work at Barrington Park District, whether its full time, part time or seasonal, we could not provide the quality of life experiences that have been created and make the memories that will hopefully last a lifetime!

Sports Tips from Coach Kent

Athletics - Open Gym/Sports Tips from Coach Kent

Open Gym (Beginning 9/11)

Signing your child up for a new sport can come with a handful of questions. Coach Kent has listed some helpful tips below that will help get your child get started on the right foot. Tip #1 – Have Fun! Sports should be all about fun. Our goal is to teach them the basics, but more importantly, make sure they are having fun! If they don’t have fun playing a sport for the first time, there is a chance that they will never want to play that sport again in the future. Tip #2 – Try Something New! Kids should be exposed to a variety of sports, and they’ll quickly let you know which ones they prefer. Plus, you will find that what you learn in one sport will translate to another sport. More often than not, stronger athletes are the ones that didn’t specialize in one sport at a younger age but played a multitude of sports and learned helpful skills from each. Tip #3 – If it’s Not for Them, No Need to Worry! Our classes are reasonably priced and only last a handful of weeks. That way, you can sign up for a single session, and if it’s not for them, you are not committed to an entire season of that sport. Also, our coaches will have extra equipment on-hand so you aren’t spending money on equipment that they may never touch again. Tip #4 – Team vs. Individual Sports. A majority of parents sign their kids up for sports, not just for the athletic experience, but for the social experience as well. However, not every child will benefit from playing sports on a team. Sign your child up for both team and individual sports to see which environment they like best. Tip #5 – Have Questions? Contact Me! I have been the Athletic Supervisor here at the Barrington Park District for over 10 years. If you need help finding the right program for your child or have any other questions about our athletic programs, please feel free to contact me at khengels@barringtonparkdistrict org or (847) 304-95273.

Park District - Challenge Course

The Barrington Park District offers a variety of Challenge Programs designed to meet the needs of a wide diversity of groups. All of our programs are designed to bring together or strengthen your group, and are tailored to meet your specific needs and goals. We believe that participants absorb more when they are physically, socially, intellectually and emotionally involved in the learning process. Our trained facilitators engage groups in activities that allow the participants to take ownership of their learning. Each program allows time for the participants to discuss the experience and relate the learning outcomes back to “real world” situations.
