At Barrett & Coe, we know that our portraits are much more than just photographs. They are priceless moments in time captured in a fun and relaxed environment that deserve to be presented in the best way possible.

Who are Barrett & Coe?

Barrett & Coe are the UK’s leading photography company. It all began with John Sawyer who advertised his portrait photography services from his home at 4 Grove Road, Norwich, in 1849.

In 1854 he leased premises at 32 London Street, Norwich, and in 1863 employed 19 year old Albert Edward Coe to manage the company. In 1883 Albert Edward Coe bought the business, and the original studio was used until 2005.

Andrew, the current owner of the business, is Albert Edward Coe’s great-grandson. We have been the nation’s photographer of choice since the 1850s and offer a friendly professional service combined with beautiful, modern and relaxed photographs.

What happens during your photoshoot?

On the day, we will explain to you how the shoot will run in detail and answer any questions you may have.

Before that however, we will telephone you to ask a few questions about what you would like to achieve from the session and if you have preferences for lighting, posing and style.

This is to enable us to personalise your session for the best results. For many people a photography session is a special event perhaps for a memorable occasion and we want to make sure that you enjoy your time with us!

How can we guarantee you will be completely satisfied with your portraits?

We know that some people don’t like having their photograph taken. Normally it is because most pictures that are taken of them are not captured in the right way. That’s where we come in.

We will chat before the shoot and find out your preferences, for example, modern or traditional, black and white or colour, arty cropping or full framed pictures, light or dark background etc.

We have many examples you can view on our social media and our website. Additionally, we will also show you the poses and set-ups on the back of the camera so that you are able to monitor what we capture in the studio.

What should I wear?

Simply, wear what you feel most comfortable in and what you would like to have on display in your home. We can cater for your tastes: formal or informal, just tell us what you prefer.

We recommend avoiding clothes that date (football shirts are a perfect example) avoiding bare arms or bold patterns, and stripes tends to work better and is preferred by the majority of our customers.

When will I get to view my images?

We normally plan to hold your viewing session on the same day as your shoot.

It is also possible to arrange your viewing session for another time, so please let us know in advance if you would prefer this.

What products are available?

We offer a range of exclusive, hand-finished wall art through, as well as matching ranges of shelf products.

We will run you through all the options after your session and you will have a price and product guide to go away with to consider your options. There is no obligation to purchase.

How much will everything cost?

That depends entirely on you. Your voucher covers your costs for the shoot, viewing and any included gift, but realistically you are likely to love the pictures and want to purchase some portraits from the shoot.

This goes back to the discussion we will have when you arrive about what you are looking for.

We will discuss with you before the shoot how any voucher you may have can be used as credit against any purchases and give you an indication of the range of costs.

We have a price list that starts from £85 and goes up to cover £1000, so there will be something suitable for your budget. Interest free payment plans are available!

Before your viewing we will ensure you have the information on product pricing and design options including the images we have taken so that you can confidently make a no-pressure decision.
