Ref D - BBC CD-97-309 “ALF” (Lot 72) Bred by Ray hunt and would be one of the very few grandchildren of the some of the original imports still alive. We attained him as an aged bird. We had been trying to get hold of him for some years. We paired him the first year to a Mark Schubert (Herbot) hen and bred the super racer BCH IGBF 07 619 (Lot 70)”The Witch”. In her first 13 starts she was first bird 8 times. Initially a winner but refused to trap, she was a true leader and first batched on the southern route many times, one of those on Gold Band day when she only managed equal 5th combine. The following year we decided to go a bit closer on the Van Loon blood with him and so mated him to REF C ZIRCON Breeding 6223 (Lot 85), 6210 (Lot 4) & 6222. He has even produced a winner as far out as Ouyen 500 miles, good birds, racing and stock. See REF C ZIRCON for details. “ALF” is a vital cock for his age still of strong body and didn’t miss an egg last breeding season, we mated him the last two years mostly for stock to keep the Van Loon blood pure.

Ref E – BCC SCF-95-4544 “THE ACE” Although older than most of these reference birds, this cock’s blood still runs through our birds. We loaned a very good ‘Gold Band’ producing cock off the super Hunt Van Loon pair of John Swan’s with the purpose to mate it to our very good stock hen ”The Parkes Hen”, and share the young. Ref E was the product of that pair. “The Parkes Hen” was purchased from the late Archie Robinsons sale and was his best stock hen. Her first two daughters to race achieved 2nd SCF National on a very hard day (beaten by a 30km shorter marker) and 3rd SCF Combine Grand Prix the following week. 8 of 26
