The Immigrant Investor Program, also called the EB-5 program, is a United States visa program that provides a track for foreign investors to obtain permanent residency in the United States. This program was created to encourage foreign investment in the United States and to create jobs for U.S. citizens. Here’s what you need to know about the Immigrant Investor Program.
The EB-5 program was created in 1990 by the U.S. Congress to stimulate the U.S. economy by attracting foreign investors. Under the program, foreign investors can obtain a green card, or permanent residency status, by investing a minimum amount in a new commercial enterprise that will create at least 10 full-time jobs for U.S. citizens or lawful permanent residents. The minimum investment is reduced if the investment is made in a “Targeted Employment Area,” where unemployment is higher than the national average.
