Recycling Tips
We have different bins for different types of rubbish. Recycling – yellow lid.
By Darcy
Rubbish – Red or blue lid. Green waste – green lid.
Important There is some rubbish that shouldn’t go in any bin. They can be bad for the environment and we should take them to places that can get rid of them properly. There are usually lots of places to take them like shops and councils. Some of the rubbish that shouldn’t go in any bin. • Batteries – these can cause fires and hurt the environment.
What we put in the green bin goes off to be made into compost for our gardens. What can go in the green waste bin? • Lawn clippings, leaves and other plants and animal poo. • All food scraps. • Pizza boxes and cardboard take away containers that have food scraps in them.
Things that don’t belong in the green bin can ruin the mulch.
• Electronics – parts of these can be recycled. • Light Globes – these can be bad for the environment.
What can’t go in the green waste bin?
• Mobile Phones – parts of these can be recycled.
• Plastic bags.
• Paint, Chemicals, Poisons, Petrol etc – these can cause damage to the soil and to plants and animals.
• Food still in its wrapper. • Metal and glass. • Garden tools. • Nappies.
• Old Medicines – these can be taken back to your local chemist to get rid of. To find out which bin to use or find out where to take dangerous items, go to www.whichbin.sa.gov. au or ask your local council.
• Shredded paper and sticky notes and egg cartons. • Tissues & paper towels.

During the summer months, Darcy and I go to Clarence Gardens Lawn Bowls Night Owl Bowls on Thursday evenings. We go for dinner and for a game of lawn bowls. Dinner begins at 5pm and they always have a variety each week. The lawn bowls game begins at 7pm and we always have a lot of fun. Darcy has been going to Night Owl Bowls for a number of years. I have only just joined this year after hearing about the Night Owls group from Darcy. I have not only learned more about how to play lawn bowls but I have also become friends with Darcy. I have also met some other amazing people. Darcy is an amazing lawn bowls player!
