Tell us about training PJ: Once a week we train with the A & B grade and we hang out together in the club after playing. We partied at the club after the grand final. A: Training was good, we started early in February, then the season started in mid-April. The A grade train with us – they are nice people. We have tea there after training sometimes, that’s how we have this good bond. R: We train on Tuesday nights with A & B grade, they also come and watch us play. What was the highlight of the grand final? PJ: The atmosphere and people taking lots of photos of us. It’s hard to believe winning two in a row. I am proud of myself.
Kenilworth Football Club Kenilworth Football Club in St Mary’s is known for its warm and welcoming atmosphere, embracing diversity, integrity and respect, and creating a sense of family. Part of the SANFL APM Inclusive League, Kenilworth is proud to be home to a strong and vibrant men’s inclusive team. Barkuma clients and club players PJ, Andrew, Richard and Ben all shared the special moment the Kenilworth Kookaburras (the Kookas) won back-to-back premierships in 2023. We chatted to them about what they love about footy and the club. A: We loved it all. We kept them scoreless in the first quarter, in the second quarter we kicked away again. In the third and fourth quarter we let them score. Hopefully next year we can go for third, fingers crossed. Trying to kick a goal, I got a fat lip! R: Winning the premiership. I felt proud we did it for our club. Why should other people try footy? PJ: They should have a go, have the experience. Come to Kenilworth and enjoy the journey. Barkuma is our main sponsor. A: We’d like to have more people join. If they want to come out and try we can teach them. Come out to pre-season and try out with us premiers. R: Footy is a good sport, helps keep you fit. The Buzz
