his study had been conducted under the PUKAR Fellowship program 2010-11 by 8 boys from orphanage, after-care homes in Chembur and Koparkhairane. These boys were between 17 to 20 years. Most of the boys had not completed their formal education because circumstance did not permit them. However, they had pursued vocational courses in ITI through their hostels. They had been continuously shifted in various hostels across Maharashtra and therefore, could not settle in any particular place.
Major Findings:
The study revealed that the rules and regulations in these after care homes were not only irrational but also very draconian. For instance, one respondent was staying in an after care home at Yavatmal where he was completing his 1st year of ITI training. However, due to some rules he was forced to shift to a home in Mumbai. As a result, he lost a year as no training centre would admit him midway. Moreover, lack of proper guidance, lack of documents necessary for completing the course.
