On behalf of the Crescent Hill Black Herefords family and friends, I would like to start off by thanking everyone that made our first annual sale a success last year! Words cannot describe the appreciation we have for everyone involved and especially the bidders and buyers of our cattle in the sale. Since the conclusion of the sale, we have continued to push ourselves to find and create the best Black Herefords you can find anywhere in the country. With a renewed commitment to introducing new genetics, backed by proven cattle through purchases, AI and a new extensive embryo transplant program, our goal is to put cattle in your herds that are going to make you profitable!

This sale again runs deep in quality bulls and females. We believe, along with our friends and partners at Wolf Black Herefords, Jenkins Cattle Ranch, and 4B Black Herefords, that we have put together a group of cattle and genetic lots that can satisfy anything a customer is looking for. Our bulls and heifers all have DNA on file with the American Black Hereford Association. We have a group of bulls in the sale that have been Approved Herd Sire (APH) tested and have Genomically Enhanced EPDs. Those bulls have been tested and are free of the required genetic defects by the ABHA. All other bulls are clear by pedigree unless otherwise noted and can be APH tested as well.

All operations represented in this sale have very similar philosophies when it comes to herd management and breeding decisions. We all believe that any great herd has to start with finding proven genetics with maternal merit and characteristics. Behind any great bull, you will find a powerful cow. We truly believe that we are building our herds with that in mind. Throughout the sale, you will see multiple animals that go back to Dams of Supremacy. The cattle in this sale are all raised on grass until weaning, at which point we start to develop our cattle on our feed ration with longevity of the animal in mind.

I also want to acknowledge our farm’s direct partnerships with Hidden Rock Ranch (HRR) owned by Travis and Penny Burchett, Grass Creek Farms (GCF) owned by Wayne and Debbie Burchett, as well as Windisch Farms, owned by Greg and Christine Windisch (GWC). We are beyond thankful to the Burchett Family for allowing us the use of their beautiful barn to host our sale! The Windisch Family recently purchased BF Power 225K ET from Burns Farms; he now holds a $217,500 valuation. It was exciting to see him walking the pastures breeding cattle here in Kansas! Nothing brings more joy than getting to work with family on something that we all enjoy. I want to thank all three families for their continued efforts to raise quality cattle. Finally, I am not sure we would still be in the cattle business without the countless hours put in by Doug and Susie Jones. Without both of them, this would not even be possible!

As you browse through the catalog, if you have any questions about our operations or cattle please reach out to one of us and we will assist you anyway we can. Our farms are always open and we enjoy showing customers what our programs are about. Feel free to stop by and take a tour. In advance, we are grateful for anyone that takes a look through our sale, bids or purchases our cattle. Your faith in our

Sincerely,

The Jones Family & Crescent Hill Black Herefords

• When we started this sale, we were determined to always offer our best cattle and the ones we would use in our own herd. I have a feeling we are going to regret putting this bull in the sale and not keeping him to ourselves. Endurance 3A ET is a product of flush that hit it out of the park! That flush produced 3A and two females that are flat out good. Starting with his sire Jo Endure 1408 who is an absolute beast of a bull out of NJW Endure, take a look at his pedigree and you see where 1408 gets his power not just displayed in EPDs, but in actual data. That is the exact reason we selected him to pair with Jo Lady 127 Hero 431. The 431 cow has produced 14 calves both natural and ET with a weaning weight ratio of 110.8! Topped off with a yearling weight ratio of 106.4, 431 is in the top 1% for milk and it shows! 3A is in the top 25% for weaning, top 10% for yearling, top 2% for milk and top 1% for total maternal. He posted a weaning weight of 636 lbs. and a yearling weight just under 1200 lbs.! He is heterozygous black, homozygous polled and an Approved Herd Sire.

• Another good son of Jo Dark Vadar that comes in a homozygous black and polled package. When you study this bull in person, you immediately notice his length and frame yet, he still carries ample thickness from front to back. He is as calm as they come and really excelling amongst his contemporaries. He went over 600 lbs. at weaning time and almost hit 1100 lbs. at yearling time. His dam goes back to our highest revenue producing cow and one of our great maternal lines in our herd. He is a bull that is going to have an impact in someone’s herd immediately. I would recommend saving his heifers as I know how good the females are in his pedigree.

• If you are in the market for a heifer bull, take a good look at the 3833 bull. He is a Doc Savage son out of a daughter of Jo Open Range 8639 from Crazy R Black Herefords. With 3 of the top calving ease bulls in the Black Hereford breed, that is what 3833 was bred to be. He is in the 5% for both calving ease and birth weight EPDs. He is homozygous black and homozygous polled. Take this bull home and sleep all night during calving season.

• Take a look at this high percentage Ironman son out of another consistently good female from Kuhlman Herefords. This bull is moderate in his make-up but structurally correct. He exhibits a good amount of thickness and length. He had an actual birth weight of 66 lbs. and then an adjusted weaning weight of 542 lbs. for a pretty good spread from birth to weaning time. He is heterozygous black and homozygous polled. We do believe he would be best suited on a more mature cow herd.

• A Homo Black, Homo Polled calving ease bull that stems back to the ever popular Hereford AI sire Endure 173D. Loaded with growth and performance he has a triple digit YW EPD. His dam has been an excellent addition to our herd with her extra maternal traits and productivity.

Maternally, 3777 goes back to some powerful females in the Jo Bulls 0008, JN Ranch’s 413 and then some outstanding Hereford females as well. He is a bull that sits in the top 35% of the breed for weaning weight EPD as well as the top 20% for his Milk EPD. He is a maternal brother to Jo Trust Fund 7206 who we used very successfully as well as many breeders across the country. The 206 cow has been a consistent producer for us as well as JO Bulls. At almost 13 years old she just keeps bringing home a nice calf. His sire JO Rockwell 0C ET is really impressing us with his birth weight ratio of 94.5 and then his progenies’ gain to weaning. He currently has 33 calves with a weaning weight ratio of 101.3. That’s a great balance of calving ease and growth. We believe that 3206 is going to exhibit that trait as well.

He had an actual birth weight of 65 pounds to go along with his CED in the top 25% and his birth weight EPD is in the top 10%. This bull should provide some good growth if he follows suit with the cattle in his pedigree. His dam is a daughter of CHBH Black Socks 8502, who is one of the top bulls that we have ever used. His daughters have excellent udder structure and raise good calves.

• When you study the Jo Envision sons, you are going to immediately see how good of a bull he really was. While known more for being one of the top heifer bulls in the ABHA, his calves do exhibit excellent growth. Just take a look at 3104 who had an actual weight of 512 pounds at 131 days old. He is going to be a powerful bull. His dam goes back to the Hereford great Victor 719T which should add some excellent maternal characteristics into the mix. He is almost purebred at 86%, homozygous black and heterozygous polled. He is a bull you can take and use any way you like and have great calves.

His dam is a daughter of Jo Ying Yang 6145 that goes back to Revolution 4R and she did an excellent job on her first calf. 3107 had an actual weight of 469 pounds at 129 days old! This is a bull that will exhibit excellent calving ease but then explode through weaning time. He is in the top 10% for calving ease and top 3% for birth weight EPDs. He is homozygous black, homozygous polled and 87% HB! He has the potential to make someone one heck of a herd bull.

• Thor is a product of mating Ironman 0517 to an ET flush sister of Jo CHBH JCR High Roller 7D and Jo Jack Hammer. I would expect this bull to produce that same kind of consistency that his sire and dam have been producing for us. He is a higher percentage bull that is homozygous black, homozygous polled and an Approved Herd Sire. Along with all of this, he is aesthetically pleasing and balanced throughout the length of his body. This is a bull that deserves his own herd inside the ABHA or will be a standout in a commercial herd. We believe in this bull enough that we will be retaining a 1/4 in-herd semen interest. I know many people will not know this bull because he was an AM carrier and didn’t see the use he probably would have if he had been clean but I can tell you he was one heck of a bull. Probably a bull born before his time in the ABHA. The quality of this bull was second to none in look and progeny.
