Welcome to This is Art, a publication of works created by secondary schools across East London as part of Barbican Art Box, a project, organised by Barbican Guildhall Creative Learning, that aims to inspire young people and teachers to create new work inspired by artists, ideas and the world around them.
This year’s Art Box was created by artist duo Hunt & Darton, whose artwork takes inspiration from social settings and the everyday and is inspired by places that are full of people and conversations. Using themes explored within the Barbican Art Gallery exhibition, Into the Night: Cabarets and Clubs in Modern Art, an exhibition that explored the history of cabarets, cafés and clubs in modern art, the Box was created to examine how to use conversation, collaboration and shared social spaces as inspiration to get creative.
