Details Regarding the Vacant Post of Public Relations Coordinator

1. Headquarters, Barbados Defence Force (BDF), is inviting suitably qualified applicants for the post of Public Relations Coordinator.

2. The appointment of Public Relations Coordinator (PRC) is a civilian position within the BDF. Among other qualities, the PRC must consistently demonstrate operational security, information confidentiality, and trustworthiness as enduring character traits.

3. Academic Qualifications. Applicants should possess:

a. A degree in Mass Communications, Marketing or Public Relations; or

b. An Associate Degree, Bachelor’s Degree, or any comparable and suitably aligned qualification or professional certification (such as Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) Diploma, Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) qualification, Digital Marketing Certificates, or Accreditation in Public Relations (APR));

c. A professional qualification in media relations or crisis communication and experience with government, military or disciplined services is an asset.

d. Three (3) to five (5) years’ relevant experience.

4. Duties and Responsibilities. The successful applicant will report to the Staff Officer, Civil-Military Relations, Public Affairs and Media (G9), on all media-related matters. The list of duties, skills and abilities includes but is not confined to:

a. Managing press releases and Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) events;

b. Knowledge of government and military protocol;

c. Ability to craft accurate and inspirational narratives for multiple audiences;

d. Knowledge of stakeholder relationships;

e. Ability to use digital platforms and analytics;

f. Produce sentiment analysis; and

g. Be proficient in digital media tools and products.

5. Salary. The salary of the PRC is Z10–Z3, i.e., $58,338.42-$71,152.47 per annum

6. Appointment. The duration of the appointment is two (2) years in the first instance and is subject to termination by at least four (4) weeks’ notice on either side.

7. Leave Leave is granted as follows:

a. Vacation Leave. The PRC is entitled to forty-two (42) days’ vacation leave per annum

b. Sick Leave. Fourteen (14) days of sick leave are granted per year.

8. Method of Selection. Applicants will be expected to attend an interview with a panel as selected by HQ BDF. Additionally, applicants must meet the BDF’s security vetting clearance requirements. Interested persons are invited to submit a letter of application addressed to: Chief of Staff, Barbados Defence Force, St Ann’s Fort, Garrison, St Michael, along with a Curriculum Vitae, copies of qualifications, three (3) passport-sized photographs, two (2) testimonials and a Police Certificate of Character no later than 17 April 2026

9. Assessment. Applicants will be assessed on the following:

a. Relevant qualifications and professional training;

b. Experience;

c. Performance at interview;

d. Integrity testing; and

e. General suitability
