Why the Bangor Region? Thank you for taking the time to check out our "Spotlight" Membership and Resource Guide Magazine. This is truly a celebration of the Bangor region and our member businesses. We hope you will visit the 21 communities featured in this guide and support our member businesses that represent a wide range of products and services. If you are a member of the Deb Neuman Bangor Region Chamber of Commerce, we thank you for your support and we will continue to be here to support you. Recent times have reminded us that the ability to adapt to change is critical to survival. For more than a century the chamber has adapted to change and we will continue to do so to best serve our communities and our members. Throughout this publication you will read the “why” from individuals who have chosen the Bangor region as the place they live, work, play and more! Like so many others, I could write pages of reasons why I choose to live here. I recall when my 8 year old niece was visiting here one summer and as she was packing up to head home to New Jersey she said to me, “I don’t want to leave. Aunt Debbie, you are so lucky you never have to.” I shared with her that when she is “big like me” she too can make this place her home, year round. I was her once. A kid from out of state who came to Maine every summer and was sad every year that I had to leave. When I was old enough to stay, I did and I have no plans to leave, ever. My story is not unusual. You will meet people in our region who grew up here and stayed, who grew up here, left and returned. Young people who came here to attend college and remained after graduation. You will meet former visitors who are now year round residents and professionals who came for a job and stayed for the
lifestyle. Lately, we are seeing more retirees and remote workers relocating to our region. They recognize and appreciate that the Bangor region is a vibrant hub for retail, healthcare, education, arts and culture. Innovation, entrepreneurship, creativity are part of the fabric of our communities. This region features abundant recreational and outdoor activities in our own backyards and within a short drive we can be sitting by the ocean or skiing in the mountains. Travelers appreciate having an airport that connects to any location in the world. I appreciate that seeing a bald eagle on the way to work is a regular part of my daily (eight minute) commute. Whether you are coming here for a vacation, vocation or relocation, we are here for you!
