C OAC H H A R BAU G H S AY S COACH HARBAUGH ON THE NATURE OF THE NFL: ”The scores and the standings from one week to the next, what happens is sometimes shocking. It shouldn’t be, because we know how it works, and we know how even it is. I’ll say to Ozzie [Newsome] something like that, and he’ll basically just smile and say, ‘It’s exactly how they want it. That’s how they planned it.’ It’s the way the league is built, to make everybody very competitive. That’s what makes it so much fun.”

QUICK HITS

7 It’s a new chapter in one of the NFL’s best rivalries when the Baltimore Ravens (8-3) face the Pittsburgh Steelers (5-5-1) at Heinz Field this Sunday (4:25 p.m. kickoff). Baltimore, which currently holds the AFC’s No. 1 playoff seed, has won two straight games, while Pittsburgh is coming off two consecutive defeats (both on the road). Four of the Ravens’ final six games are against division foes, and Baltimore will wrap up the 2021 regular season by hosting Pittsburgh at M&T Bank Stadium in Week 18.

I N J U RY U P DAT E The Ravens have 16 players on Injured Reserve, including starters RB J.K. Dobbins (knee), RB Gus Edwards (knee), S DeShon Elliott (pec/biceps), CB Marcus Peters (knee), T Ronnie Stanley (ankle) and DE Derek Wolfe (back/hip), all of who are on season-ending IR. Starting DE Calais Campbell (concussion) missed last week’s game vs. Cleveland, as did key reserves CB Jimmy Smith (neck) and CB Chris Westry (thigh). CB Kevin Seymour is on the Reserve/COVID list.

7 The Ravens are 8-3 for the third time in franchise history (also 2010 & 2011), all coming under head coach John Harbaugh.

7 Dating back to 2018, Baltimore has produced the NFL’s best record NOTE THE QUOTE

in the month of December, going 13-2. The Ravens have won 12 of their past 13 December games, including four straight.

OLB TYUS BOWSER ON PLAYING FIVE DIVISION GAMES IN SEVEN WEEKS: ”The most important thing is just taking advantage of these division games. We’re always going to be put into crazy situations regardless, but we have the guys for it, we have the coaches for it, and we’re confident in our team. We’re just going to take it one week at a time, take advantage of the moment, do our jobs, and then whatever happens, happens. Overall, we’re just ready.”

7 In the all-time Baltimore-Pittsburgh series, the Steelers lead the regular season count, 27-23, also going 3-1 in the playoffs. Under Coach Harbaugh, Baltimore is 14-15 (including playoffs) against Pittsburgh, including 7-9 at Heinz Field.

7 Last Sunday (11/28), the Ravens defeated the visiting Browns, 16-10, behind a stout defensive performance that limited Cleveland to 262 total yards, including a season-low 40 on the ground. Baltimore’s front seven was terrific, with OLB Tyus Bowser and OLB Odafe Oweh each registering a sack (Oweh also had a FF & FR). LB Patrick Queen tallied a team-high 8 tackles, including 2 for loss, and recovered a key fumble on Oweh’s strip-sack. Though QB Lamar Jackson threw 4 INTs, including 3 in the second quarter, Baltimore rallied behind his spectacular 13-yard TD pass to TE Mark Andrews and 3 FGs (52, 25 & 49 yards) from K Justin Tucker.
