Baltic Yearbook 2023/24 - PREVIEW

Page 1

Dear Readers,

This year’s edition of the Baltic Yearbook is a bit different from previous versions. Battling against a serious illness, our expert in statistics had to shift his attention to personal affairs in recent months (but was more than happy to prepare the shipping networks once he started feeling better – that’s courage in the face of such grave adversity!). That said, we added other figures in exchange, most notably detailed statistics on port cargo & passenger traffic by individual countries. This way everybody can check how diverse (misaligned, a wry person would say) the sources we’re trying to stitch together are. Some national statistics are super detailed, others, well, aren’t (or are not available at all, requiring extensive guesswork).

We also prepared handy infographics for each state of the Baltic Sea region, plus listed all national ports handling over half a million tonnes of freight per year (therefore getting more harbours aboard the publication vs when we applied the 1.0mt threshold).

The Baltic Green Map and its Catalogue that we put online earlier this year also made it onto the pages of the latest instalment of the Baltic Yearbook – and so did, naturally, the Baltic Port Map (both of them divided into a few mini-maps) as well as the regional highlights of the past year.

I sincerely hope you’ll like this altered, vibrant in colours edition. As always, a ‘Big Thank You!’ goes to all the wonderful Partners, who make creating the Baltic Yearbook possible in the first place!

With that, I wish you nothing but the best read!

This Yearbook is based on our own data research and analysis performed till September 2024, and includes our personal findings, interpretations, and assumptions, based on national statistics and information received directly from the companies, associations, and institutions. The majority of networks and figures were confirmed, when it was possible. However, there always exists a margin of error. We will appreciate your feedback, suggestions, and all arguments that might help us make this publication better in the future.
