PENAIR CREDIT UNION EXPANDS INTO VIRGINIA, BRINGING

90 YEARS OF MEMBER-FIRST BANKING TO THE COMMONWEALTH

PenAir Credit Union (PenAir) has expanded its field of membership into the Commonwealth of Virginia, opening membership access to those who live, work, worship, or attend school in Montgomery County, Roanoke County, and the Cities of Radford, Roanoke, and Salem.

This expansion marks a significant milestone for PenAir, bringing its 90-year legacy of community-focused financial service beyond the Gulf Coast and into Southwest Virginia. The move establishes a strong presence in a region with longstanding personal and professional ties to Lee Morgan, President and CEO of PenAir Credit Union, and reflects the credit union’s continued focus on purposeful, values driven growth.

“For nearly a century, PenAir has focused on enhancing lives through meaningful financial relationships,” said Morgan. “Expanding into Virginia allows us to carry that purpose to a region that values connection, opportunity, and long-term financial wellbeing.”

PenAir has already established a presence in Virginia following the merger of Star City Federal Credit Union in the summer of 2025 and continues to strengthen its footprint across Southwest Virginia. As part of that effort, the credit union is building a robust commercial lending presence in the region, led by Elliott Kuelz, Commercial Lending Officer, to support local businesses, entrepreneurs, and economic growth.

PenAir has expanded its indirect lending activity in the Commonwealth, with Rob Angus, Indirect Business Development Officer, focused on developing dealer partnerships and supporting lending relationships across the region. These efforts reflect early momentum and growing engagement with both businesses and consumers in the market.

In addition, PenAir is actively reaching communities through digital channels, connecting eligible residents to the credit union’s full suite of products and services. While these digital capabilities allow PenAir to serve members wherever they are, the credit union is also planning for a future physical branch presence as part of its long-term commitment to serving communities across Southwest Virginia.

Eligible Virginia members will have access to PenAir’s full suite of digital banking tools, offering flexible and secure account access paired with personalized support from experienced financial professionals. Membership includes modern digital banking features such as mobile deposits, online payments, and real time account access, along with competitive loan, checking, and savings options and a member first approach focused on trust, relationships, and long term financial wellbeing.-time account access, along with competitive loan, checking, and savings options and a member-first approach focused on trust, relationships, and long-term financial wellbeing.

CITY, VETERANS FLORIDA PARTNER ON SKILLBRIDGE PROGRAM

The City of Pensacola has signed an agreement with Veterans Florida expanding employment opportunities for veterans through the SkillBridge program.

The Memorandum of Understanding with Veterans Florida opens the door to more opportunities for servicemembers to gain civilian workforce experience as they transition from the military. The prior version of the SkillBridge partnership limited placements to the Pensacola Police Department. This version of the agreement opens the door for eligible military members to train, intern, and serve at Pensacola International Airport, and ultimately other departments in the City of Pensacola ahead of their transition out of the military.

“This SkillBridge Partnership between the City and Veterans Florida will provide servicemembers an opportunity to ease their transition out of the military and continue their public service career in Florida's Emerald Coast,” said Joe Marino, Executive Director, Veterans Florida. “We are honored to join

Mayor D.C. Reeves to enhance the lives of those who have served and wish to continue to serve.”

SkillBridge is a U.S. Department of War program that places military personnel into workplaces within the last 180 days of their service — with the goal of translating the skills they built in the military into the civilian world more smoothly. Veterans Florida, as thirdparty provider, will administer the program on behalf of the City.

“The military is woven deeply into the fabric of our City,” Reeves said. “Our partnership with Veterans Florida allows us to tap into an incredible talent pool and to do our part to honor that our historical connection to the service and give these talented men and women a place to continue their service.”

This expanded SkillBridge agreement is in effect for FY2025-26, with coordinated efforts by Veterans Florida and the City of Pensacola to maximize successful placements and long-term employment outcomes for participating servicemembers.

UWF POLICE DEPARTMENT EARNS REACCREDITATION

The University of West Florida Police Department has achieved reaccreditation from the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation through 2029. Accreditation increases the department’s ability to prevent and control crime through effective and efficient delivery of law enforcement services.

“As an agency, we understand the importance of accreditation,” said UWF Police Chief Roman Jackson. “We view it not as a finish line, but as a commitment to continuous improvement. We look forward to continuing our efforts, always working towards perfection while remaining excellent in all that we do.”

UWF Police were required to comply with numerous standards in order to receive reaccreditation. Many of the standards are critical to life, health, safety issues and best practices. A team of assessors from the CFA visited UWFPD last November to reexam -

ine all aspects of the department’s policies and procedures, management, operations and support services. Out of 235 standards reviewed, 173 were found in compliance, 62 were not applicable and zero were out of compliance. This report reflects that UWF was favorably reviewed, achieving the highest quality standards.

The assessment team noted that the UWFPD were professional, kind, courteous and displayed a positive attitude towards the accreditation process. With interviews and observations confirming policies are followed by all employees, the assessment team concluded that the UWFPD meets the standards for accreditation.

The UWF Police Department is an integral part of the University community. The mission of the department is to support the values of the University in enhancing the quality of life and academic goals in a safe and secure educational environment.

SANTA ROSA COUNTY 4-H SENIOR TEAM RISES TO THIRD IN STATE AT FLORIDA 4-H POULTRY JUDGING CONTEST

Santa Rosa County 4-H is celebrating a major accomplishment following the 2026 Florida 4-H Poultry Judging Contest, held at the Florida State Fair, where the Senior Team earned a third-place finish in the state.

After placing seventh in last year’s competition, the team embraced the 4-H motto, “To Make the Best Better,” and returned this year with determination, focus, and a commitment to improvement. Their hard work paid off with a climb to third place in the Senior Division statewide.

The Santa Rosa County Senior Team was comprised of Andrew Mashack, Julia Mashack, Ayla Foreman, and Marissa Acotto. Through months of preparation, study, and practice, these youth sharpened their skills in evaluating live birds, grading eggs and carcasses, identifying poultry parts, and applying industry standards. Their improvement from last year’s finish to this year’s top three placement reflects both perseverance and strong teamwork.

In addition to the Senior Team’s success, Santa Rosa County 4-H member Alison Collier proudly represented the county in the Junior/Intermediate Division. Competing at the state level requires dedication, confidence, and preparation, and her participation contributed to a strong overall showing for the county program.

The Florida 4-H Poultry Judging Program challenges youth to think critically, make accurate evaluations, and develop industry knowledge directly connected to Florida agriculture. Participants gain valuable life skills including decision making, communication, responsibility, and teamwork.

Santa Rosa County 4-H continues to demonstrate that when young people commit to growth and learning, they truly live out the 4-H pledge and strive to make the best better.

For more information about 4-H youth programs in Santa Rosa County, please contact Santa Rosa County 4-H at 850-623-3868.

“It is for her memorable and powerful words of inspiration, her lifetime achievements as a professor and her authentic goodness as a mentor that I am honored to be her mentee,” said Mercedes A. Musto, UWF doctoral candidate. “Her commitment to the field, care and concern for her students, and outstanding character among teacher educators make Dr. Giang-Nguyen Thi Nguyen an honorable recipient for the Duaine C. Lang Mentoring Award in 2026.”
