Seville Stroll Food Tour

Downtown Pensacola

The Seville Stroll food tour dishes up a unique culinary experience that’s sure to tantalize your taste buds. On this guided culinary tour through the historic streets of downtown Pensacola, you’ll learn about the city’s rich culinary history while enjoying local cuisine from a myriad of delicious eateries.

The brainchild behind the operation is Pensacola native and local history buff Duel Christian, who launched the company back in 2021. After seeing the rising popularity of tours like these in other “foodie” meccas of the U.S., like New Orleans

and Chicago, Christian wanted to bring something similar to Pensacola.

So, when Christian decided that he was ready to start his own business, it only seemed natural to pursue an endeavor that would allow him to combine two things he loves— food and local history.

“Seville Savories came about when I was just looking for something different to do. I was an independent advertising consultant at that time, and I saw an ad for a food tour on Google. I knew immediately that I could do that. I know exactly how to do it because I grew up immersed in Pensacola history. I'm a food historian, and with the walkability of downtown, it was a no-brainer to put it together. From there, I contacted local restaurants, and I wrote the tour talk about the general history of Pensacola,” Christian said.

In May 2025, Christian decided to partner with longtime friend Wesley Odom, the owner of the oldest continuously operating tour company in Pensacola, Go Retro. The duo combined forces to enhance and expand Go Retro’s current tour offerings.

“Wesley and I grew up together at First United Methodist Church. We've known each other pretty much our whole lives. We bumped into each other back in April, and he asked me to give him a call. He said, ‘Why don't we just merge the two companies and create one big tour company?’ So, he brought me on. I am now the general manager of Go Retro, so I'm running the whole company,” Christian explained. “Wesley brought me on to do the food tour aspect, and we've hired another guide to do the walking food tour. Now we offer many different types of tours, and we have more coming.”

In his new role as general manager, Christian oversees the company’s diverse lineup of classic riding tours. He will also lead the expansion into new, themed food tours, building on the success of Seville Savories with the debut of exciting new culinary tour offerings.

“We will be kicking off an afternoon dessert tour called Dessert Madness, probably within the month, and hopefully, a coffee tour will be coming later this year, as well,” Christian said. For now, Go Retro is hosting Christian’s popular Seville Stroll food

tour, which can be booked directly through the Go Retro website.

For this guided dinner tour, guests will stroll through the streets of the Seville Historic District in downtown Pensacola, tasting delicious cuisine from four of downtown’s top dining destinations, including The Kennedy, Dog House Deli, 86 Forks Bar + Table and Bubba’s Sweet Spot. Along the way, an expert guide will teach you fun facts about Pensacola’s history dating back to the days of the famous Spanish explorer who first set foot in Florida—Don Tristán de Luna.

The tour takes about 2 hours, but don’t worry, the walk isn’t far and you’ll have plenty of time to rest after enjoying food at the different stops along the way. Each tour can accommodate anywhere from four to 12 people.

The Seville Stroll dinner is hosted on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 5 to 7 pm, and the cost is $72 per person. Though Go Retro isn’t currently offering private food tours, Christian says this is something they hope to offer in the near future.

For tickets and more information on the Seville Stroll food tour, visit goretro.us. Taste of Fairhope Fairhope, AL

Also owned and operated by husband-and-wife duo Chris and Laney Andrews, Taste of Fairhope was established in 2020. As owners of the already well-established Bienville Bites food tour based out of Mobile, Ala., the couple wanted to bring this same typed of curated culinary experience to the charming town of Fairhope.

“It was kind of a natural progression for us. We wanted to expand on what we were doing in Mobile. We love the food and the restaurants in Fairhope, so it just felt like a natural fit,” Chris said.

Currently, Taste of Fairhope offers The Fairhope Foodie tour—a 3-hour walking food tour through the streets of downtown Fairhope. This tour highlights some of the most-loved restaurants in the city. Featuring six stops, the tour is an easy pace, with the prime location requiring just a short walk between stops.

The tour begins at Provision, where the tour group meets up for their first tasting experience with a refreshing beverage and bite.

Part coffee shop, market and wine bar, Provision is a haven for coffee lovers and wine connoisseurs alike.

The tour group will then walk south on Section Street to perhaps one of the most well-known restaurants in the area, Panini Pete’s, which gained fame through its many appearances on various Food Network shows, most notably Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives.

After a panini bite and a beignet, the tour continues to the beloved Bay Breeze Cafe. At this stop, guests will enjoy a cup of roasted corn and tomato bisque and a grilled cheese to dip.

Located just across the street in the former Dragonfly Food Bar is the next stop—Market by the Bay. Here, guests will get to sample a taste of the coast with a fresh po’boy and a hot cup of gumbo.

The next stop on the tour is the Happy Olive, where guests will enjoy a unique tasting experience with a curated selection of premium olive oils and aged vinegars from around the world.

The tour concludes with a stop at the iconic Mr. Gene’s Beans, where guests will sample the shop’s famous coffee and ice cream concoction—the Fairhope Float!

The Andrews are not alone in this venture, as two local guides assist them in leading the tours—Jennifer Wilson Galloway and Parker York. Galloway is a lifelong Fairhope resident with a love for the city and its culinary scene. York is a Fairhope High School teacher who is also passionate about the city and its history.

Tour groups range in size from two to 16 attendees. Private tours are also available upon request and make a great option for corporate events, birthdays and other special occasions. The Fairhope Foodie tour is $79 per adult. This ticket price includes all food, tax and gratuity at each restaurant. There is also an option to add three cocktails throughout the tour. The food and cocktail package ticket price is $99 per adult.

If your kiddo is a fellow foodie, they are welcome to join in on the food tour. Children ages 11 and under who want to participate in tastings are $39 each. Throughout the summer months, Taste of Fairhope offers tours Tuesday through Saturday. To learn more and book your tasting experience, visit tastefairhope.com.■

SINFONIA GULF COAST ANNOUNCES

REGISTRATION FOR 2025-2026

EDUCATION PROGRAMS

Sinfonia Gulf Coast is excited to announce that registration is now open for the 20252026 Music Education programs. As the only program affiliated with a professional orchestra in the Emerald Coast region, the Sinfonia Youth Orchestra (SYO) offers student musicians unparalleled opportunities to enhance their musical talents and perform in a variety of ensembles throughout the school year under the mentorship of professional musicians.

Programs include the Advanced Symphonic Orchestra, for advanced (All-State level) middle and high school student musicians who play strings, winds, brass, and percussion; Intermediate Symphonic Orchestra for middle school students who play strings, winds, brass, and percussion; and Sinfonietta Strings, open to beginning string students. A pops group is also available to select students from the Advanced Symphonic Orchestra. The Sinfonietta and Intermediate Ensembles are looking for student piano accompanists as well.

Sinfonia’s After School Beginning Strings Programs have been highly successful and have led to over 100 students throughout Okaloosa and Walton Counties discovering the love of strings in the program’s two years of implementation. This year, Sinfonia plans to expand programs into Dune Lakes, Freeport, and Antioch Elementary schools to join existing programs at Bluewater, Shalimar, Destin, and Van R. Butler Elementary Schools.

Joining the SYO program comes with numerous benefits. As an established professional orchestra, we bring our extensive experience and knowledge to successfully guide young musicians. SYO is in partnership with the only professional orchestra in the area, offering students hands-on teaching by experienced professionals. Members enjoy meaningful individual and small group mentoring by experienced sectional instructors, resident musicians lead by Sinfonia Gulf Coast’s esteemed music director/conductor, Demetrius Fuller.

The program is led by professional, approachable, energetic, and highly educated musicians, making it an enriching experience for all. Performances at Sinfonia Gulf Coast events feature A-list performers such as Time For Three, Brubeck Brothers Quartet, Patti LaBelle, Kristin Chenoweth, Bernadette Peters, and others providing high-caliber performance experiences.

High school students can earn Bright Futures volunteer hours at Sinfonia Gulf Coast and SYO events, adding another layer of benefit to their participation.

PLANNING AND ZONING INVOICE SCAM

Santa Rosa County is aware of a fraudulent email scam targeting individuals and businesses falsely claiming to be from the planning and zoning department. These emails have been sent from developmentservices.santarosa.fl.gov@usa.com or a similar email service, which is NOT a legitimate Santa Rosa County government email address.

The scam email includes an attached fake invoice requesting a wire transfer payment, which Santa Rosa County does not accept as a valid form of payment. These fraudulent emails are designed to appear official but are not associated with Santa Rosa County in any way. The emails are intended to cause a panic response by claiming the applicant owes thousands of dollars.

Santa Rosa County will never ask for payment via wire transfer. The public can view an example of a real invoice online, which is on real county letterhead and lists accepted forms of payment. Any applicant who receives an email requesting a wire transfer for application fees should immediately disregard the email.

To ensure the legitimacy of any application fees, applicants are advised to:

• Carefully review the sender’s email address. All official Santa Rosa County emails from planning and zoning will either come from a “Non-Reply MGO” email address or will end with @santarosa.fl.gov. Be cautious of any communication claiming to be from the county that does not follow this format.

• Never respond to emails requesting payment via wire transfer.

• Verify any invoices or communications by directly contacting the planning and zoning department at 850-981-7000. If an applicant has sent money or feels they have been a victim of a scam, contact the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office at 850-9831190. If an applicant receives a suspicious email about the approval of a planning, zoning, or building-related application or has doubts about an email’s authenticity, contact the planning and zoning department at 850-981-7000.

This move marks a full-circle return to Achieve Escambia’s roots and positions the work for greater long-term sustainability and community alignment.

SYO seniors can apply for the Grace Fulcher Memorial Scholarship, created in honor of Grace Bernice Fulcher, a former SYO member, and may be selected for the Exemplary Character or Exceptional Talent awards by the instructors.

“We believe our youth orchestra programs foster a strong sense of community, allowing members to connect with like-minded fellow musicians in a safe, collaborative, and welcoming environment,” says Sinfonia Youth Orchestra director Margaret Gordon. “It is our goal to achieve high level performances while making sure every student is assisted in reaching their full potential as musicians.” Gordon also states, “It is an honor to be able to offer beginning strings instruction to students of Okaloosa and Walton Counties through our after-school programs. Originally launched in 2016 as an initiative of UWWF, Achieve Escambia became a stand-alone nonprofit in 2020. Over the past five years, it has convened dozens of partners, launched collaborative cross-sector networks, and fueled local solutions for early learning, college access, and data utilization to improve outcomes for our community. Since its inception, Achieve Escambia has successfully:

• Organized community-wide referendum efforts to establish the Escambia Children’s Trust, mobilizing cross-sector partners and public support to create a dedicated local funding source for children’s services. The Trust was supported by over 60% of voters in 2020 and funds over 40 high-quality programs for children and youth.

• Established the Kindergarten Readiness Collective Action Network (KCAN), which serves as the leadership council for Help Me Grow Escambia and has driven community-wide alignment on developmental screenings, early intervention strategies, and school readiness efforts. Launched and sustained the Local College Access Network (LCAN), which has increased financial aid application completion rates and postsecondary enrollment rates.

• Built a shared data infrastructure through the Achieve Dashboard (in partnership with the UWF Haas Center and Achieve Healthy EscaRosa), empowering crosssector leaders to act on real-time community indicators.

“This is the right next step for the mission of Achieve Escambia. It’s a new chapter in the same story of community-driven change,” said Ruthie Noel, Executive Director of

Achieve Escambia. “We have shown that when cross-sector partners come together, real progress is possible. By returning to our roots as a community initiative with the United Way as the backbone convener, we are strengthening the foundation and ensuring the work continues with greater reach and stability.”

“Achieve Escambia has always been about what’s best for our community, and that includes knowing when to evolve,” said Jennifer McFarren, Achieve Escambia Board Chair. “I’ve been part of this work since the beginning, and I’m proud of how far we’ve come. This transition to United Way of West Florida isn’t just a practical move but a visionary one. It ensures that the cradle-tocareer mission remains strong, supported, and embedded in the very fabric of our community for years to come.”

United Way of West Florida will assume coordination of the KCAN, the LCAN, and the Data Action Group. Staff support, communications, and community engagement will transition under UWWF leadership by fall 2025.

“We are proud to carry this work forward,” said Laura Gilliam, President & CEO of United Way of West Florida. “United Way has always believed in the power of aligned community action. This transition allows us to deepen our commitment to educational opportunity, equity, and lifelong success for every child and family in our region.”

United Way of West Florida (UWWF) mobilizes communities to action so all can thrive in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties. True to its founding spirit, whenever there is a need in our communities, UWWF is there. The nonprofit organization brings a comprehensive approach to every challenge, actively listening and responding to local needs. From strengthening local resilience to advancing health, youth opportunity, and financial security, UWWF works towards a future where every person in the community can reach their full potential. ICE FLYERS ACQUIRE VETERAN GOALTENDER MORAN AND TOP SCORER PARRISH IN TRADE WITH QUAD CITY

The Pensacola Ice Flyers have acquired the playing rights of veteran starting goaltender Brent Moran and top scoring forward Weiland Parrish from the Quad City Storm in exchange for the playing rights of forwards Eimentas Norieka and Ivan Bondarenko. "I want to extend our deepest thanks to Ivan for his contributions to the Ice Flyers organization. His dedication and skill have been instrumental during his time with us! I want to thank Eimantus as well for joining us last season and contributing on and off the ice in a professional manner. We wish them continued success with the Quad City Storm,” said Ice Flyers Owner Greg Harris. Moran, a native of Orléans, Ontario, Canada, is entering his 5th professional season. He began his professional career with the SPHL Fayetteville Marksmen in the 2021-22 season. During his two seasons with the Quad City Storm, he posted impressive statistics. In the 2023-24 season, he played 35 games with a 2.81 goals against average and .922% save percentage, recording a 22-13-1 record. The following season (2024-25), he appeared in 39 games, improving to a 2.67 goals against average and .923% save percentage, finishing with a 21-14-4 record. Parrish started his professional career with the Ice Flyers in the 2021-22 season and continued into the beginning of the 2022-23 season before joining the ECHL with stints at the Kalamazoo K-Wings and Rapid City Rush. He returned to the SPHL after beginning the 202324 season with the Rush and joined the Quad City Storm for 18 games before being called up

again to several ECHL teams: the Florida Everblades, Savannah Ghost Pirates, and Cincinnati Cyclones. Last season, Parrish played 45 games for the Quad City Storm, recording 12 goals and 35 assists with a +13 plus/minus rating.

“This trade represents a strategic move to strengthen our roster in key positions. Securing a veteran goaltender of Brent Moran's caliber gives us the stability we have been missing for years and experience we need between the pipes. Additionally, we're thrilled to welcome back Weiland Parrish to Pensacola whose offensive production and versatility will significantly boost our scoring capabilities,” explained Harris.

"We are thrilled to welcome Brent Moran to the Ice Flyer family and welcome back Weiland Parrish to Pensacola," said Head Coach Jeremy Gates. "Brent has a proven track record in net, and Weiland's speed and playmaking ability make both great fits for our lineup that provides leadership. This trade reflects our commitment to building a team piece by piece to return to the standard of Ice Flyer hockey. I also want to thank Ivan Bondarenko, who has been one of the great Ice Flyers, as well as Eimantas Noreika for their dedication and passion for Pensacola."

“Building a winning team requires making difficult decisions. To get high value players, you unfortunately need to give up high value players. Also, a last place finish is nowhere near anyone’s expectations in Pensacola, so changes had to be made. We’re looking forward to the continued development of our 2025-26 roster and ushering in a new era of Ice Flyers to our fans and our community,” stated Harris.

ESCAMBIA COUNTY WRAPS UP ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL SUMMER CAMP PROGRAM

Escambia County recently wrapped up another successful year of the Play, Learn, & Grow Summer Camp, with over 400 local youth participating in this fun, educational and recreational program over the summer. This year’s seven-week summer camp was hosted at four Escambia County community centers, offering a variety of activities including recreational games and sports, arts and crafts, educational instruction, and more. The Play, Learn, & Grow Summer Camp also partners with Feeding the Gulf Coast to provide youth with breakfast, lunch and a snack during camp.

District 3 Commissioner Lumon May, county staff, the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office, and other community partners joined summer campers for "Fun Day" hosted by Feeding the Gulf Coast on Tuesday, July 15 at the Marie K. Young/Wedgewood Community Center, with fun activities, games, and more throughout the day.

"I was excited to see participation in this year's summer camp program more than double from last year, which is a testament to the need for programs like this that keep youth in our community engaged and learning all summer long," District 3 Commissioner Lumon May said. "We strive to keep our summer camps filled with activities that not only provide a fun environment for youth, but also stimulate their minds and keep them learning while they're out of school. Programs like this are vital for so many families in District 3 and Escambia County, and it is so rewarding to wrap up another great summer of learning and fun for young people in our community."

Escambia County hosts the Play, Learn, & Grow Summer Camp each year for youth ages 5-13, offering the program at four community centers this year: Brownsville Community Center, Ebonwood Community Center, Lexington Terrace Community Center and Marie K. Young/Wedgewood Community Center.

SANTA

ROSA COUNTY ANIMAL SERVICES JOINS NBCUNIVERSAL

LOCAL'S ‘CLEAR THE SHELTERS’ PET ADOPTION AND DONATION CAMPAIGN

Santa Rosa County Animal Services (SRCAS) has joined NBCUniversal Local’s 2025 Clear The Shelters pet adoption and donation campaign from Aug. 1 to 31. Adoption fees at SRCAS will be waived on Wednesday, Aug. 27, through Saturday, Aug. 30. View adoptable pets online at the website santarosa.fl.gov/405/search-adoptable-pets.

This is the eleventh consecutive year NBC and Telemundo-owned stations are partnering with affiliate stations, animal shelters and rescues to promote pet adoptions and raise funds for animal welfare. Since its inception in 2015, Clear The Shelters has helped more than 1.2 million pets find new homes.

"We emptied our shelter completely in 2020 and would love to do that again, that's why we are participating in every adoption event that we can," said Randy Lambert, SRCAs Chief. "We are hoping to the community takes advantage of the waived fees and finds a new furry family member."

SRCAS has been at or above capacity for the entirety of 2025, this national trend of overcrowded shelters has been an ongoing issue. Partnerships with organizations, like NBCUniversal Local, to provide reduced or waived adoption fees can help shelters find more forever homes for the community's most vulnerable animals. Consider adopting pets from the local shelter.

The 2025 Clear The Shelters will again feature online donations through Greater Good Charities, a global nonprofit and longtime campaign partner, which will host the fundraising campaign, built courtesy of Fundraise Up, an online donation platform that helps nonprofits grow revenue. Donors have the option to cover transaction fees with their donation so that 100% goes directly to the shelter or rescue of their choice. Beginning Aug. 1, online donations can be made during the campaign at clearthesheltersfund.org.

About Clear The Shelters

Clear The Shelters™/Desocupar Los Albergues® is an annual, nationwide pet adoption campaign that is spearheaded by NBCUniversal Local, a division of NBCUniversal. Every year, NBCUniversal Local’s NBC and Telemundo-owned stations, plus affiliated stations, partner with animal shelters and rescues in their communities to promote pet adoption and raise needed funds. NBCUniversal Local’s Clear The Shelters campaign was inspired by a 2014 North Texas pet adoption event hosted by NBC 5 / KXAS and Telemundo 39 / KXTX and dozens of area shelters that resulted in the most adopted pets in one day for North Texas. Since 2015, the Clear The Shelters pet adoption campaign has resulted in more than 1.2 million pet adoptions. Visit cleartheshelters.com and desocuparlosalbergues.com for more information.

PORTION OF WHITFIELD ROAD CLOSED BEGINNING AUG. 4 FOR BRIDGE REPLACEMENTS

A portion of Whitfield Road just east of Jesse Whitfield Road and west of Wild Dogwood Drive in the Berrydale area will be closed beginning Monday, Aug. 4, for two bridges to be replaced. Weather permitting, the road is expected to reopen mid-October.

Drivers to the west of the closure may detour using Whitfield Road to Highway

Leroy Williams, who manages the summer camp program as a Division Manager for the Escambia County Neighborhood & Human Services Department, said it has been another exciting year for the program, which is important because it provides a lowcost opportunity for local children to enjoy an engaging and activity-filled summer.

"Our main objective is to make sure that our youth are having a great summer through Play, Learn and Grow, where they can have fun but also have an opportunity to learn," Williams said. "We do a lot of STEM programs and activities to keep them learning, and a lot of academics. We want them to have a full summer, and we do it in a fun way, but the end goal is just to prepare them to go back to school."

Community center staff, with assistance from interns participating in the Escambia County Summer Youth Employment Program, facilitated a variety of activities to keep summer camp participants engaged throughout the day, working with them on school subjects including math, English and science in addition to playing games and recreational sports.

"It's been another fantastic summer at our Escambia County community centers," Williams said. "It is so rewarding to see these kids having fun in such a positive environment, and it is always a joy to be able to facilitate this program for our local youth."

The last day of the summer camp program is Thursday, July 17.

Escambia County is also offering after school programs at Brownsville Community Center, Ebonwood Community Center and Marie K. Young Wedgewood Community Center starting Aug. 13. Registration is open now. For more information, please contact Leroy Williams at 850-426-1156 or lewilliams@myescambia.com.

PENAIR CREDIT UNION CELEBRATES MID-YEAR COMMUNEROSITY GIVING

PenAir Credit Union (PenAir) proudly continued its tradition of giving back through its employee-driven Communerosity® program with a series of check presentations held throughout the first half of 2025. Four local nonprofits—Rally Foundation, FavorHouse of Northwest Florida, Inc., Freedom to Go, and Escambia Search and Rescue, Inc.— each received a $6,000 donation in recognition of their vital work in the community.

PenAir’s Communerosity Employee Fundraising Program invites employees to nominate nonprofits they are passionate about to receive a donation. Finalists are then selected through a company-wide vote, ensuring that the organizations chosen reflect PenAir’s values and priorities. This process empowers employees to directly shape the credit union’s charitable giving and deepen their connection to the causes they care about.

“Communerosity is more than a program. It reflects who we are,” said Ashley Kent, Chair of the Communerosity Committee and Card Services Manager at PenAir. “It’s inspiring to see our team come together to support causes that matter deeply to them. These check presentations are a celebration of generosity, community, and the belief that small acts of kindness can create lasting impact.”

PenAir’s Employee Fundraising Program is named after one of the credit union’s most important guiding principles, Communerosity, where community and generosity fuse together into something lasting, and provides

staff with a unified way to give back to the local community. Since its start in 2013, this program has been a beacon of generosity, with PenAir and its employees contributing approximately $510,000 to support local nonprofits. In 2024, PenAir provided a total of $48,000 to eight nonprofits. In addition to financial support, PenAir employees volunteer their time and talents to further the missions of these organizations.

Photos from the check presentations are attached to this press release. Follow along on social media using #Communerosity and #PenAirIsEverywhere to see how PenAir is making a difference. KARIN BARKLEY RECOGNIZED AS JULY 2025 EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH

Escambia County is excited to recognize Karin Barkley, Director’s Aide in the Information Technology Department, as the July 2025 Employee of the Month. Barkley’s selection was recognized with a proclamation during the July 10 Board of County Commissioners meeting.

Barkley’s career with Escambia County began in 2018, where she worked as an Administrative Assistant in County Administration before being promoted to Director’s Aide in the Information Technology Department in May 2020. Since stepping into the role, she has been instrumental in transforming the department’s administrative functions by streamlining processes and helping to establish office procedures, which have greatly improved efficiency within the department.

“We are excited to recognize Karin as the July Employee of the month and take this moment to celebrate her many supporting contributions to our department’s mission” Chief Information Officer John Erar said. “Karin is a highly valued member of our team and models the values and behaviors that make Escambia County a great place to work, live and thrive. She is a positive and caring influence, always taking the time to share her perspectives, and is known for her approachability, willingness to listen, and hard work to serve our internal and external customers promptly and efficiently. Karin is that rare individual who is always willing to

pitch in and give a hand no matter the task. She represents the best values of our dedicated and professional IT team and is very deserving of this honor.”

As the central point of contact in the department, Barkley is the go-to resource for institutional knowledge, budgeting, invoice processing, and organizational matters. She fosters strong employee morale in the department by coordinating special employee events and maintaining a social events calendar (potlucks are a favorite) to encourage team building and positive relationships between team members. Barkley’s positive attitude and willingness to listen and collaborate with her colleagues have helped promote a positive and supportive work environment.

Outside of her regular job duties, Barkley goes above and beyond, serving as a lead in the Citizens Information Center in the Emergency Operations Center during emergency events and volunteering her time in county activities, including the annual United Way Day of Caring.

“I’m truly honored to be selected as Employee of the Month,” Barkley said. “I appreciate the support of my team and leadership who make this a great place to grow and contribute. This recognition motivates me to keep striving for excellence every day. Thank you to my team and to Escambia County for choosing me for this award.”

UNITED WAY OF WEST FLORIDA LAUNCHES ANNUAL STUFF THE BUS SCHOOL SUPPLY DRIVE

United Way of West Florida is proud to host its annual Stuff the Bus school supply drive on Thursday, July 24, from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., to help students in Escambia and Santa Rosa Counties start the school year fully prepared.

Each year, thousands of local students head back to school without the supplies they need to succeed. Teachers often spend an average of $820 of their own money annually to bridge this gap for students in need. Stuff the Bus ensures that every child— regardless of their financial situation—has access to the basic tools required to learn and thrive.

Community members are encouraged to stop by one of five participating Walmart locations to donate essential school supplies. Volunteers and United Way staff will be collecting donations throughout the day at the Walmarts on Mobile Highway, Creighton Road, Blue Angel Parkway, Pea Ridge and Tiger Point. The Navarre and Pea Right Walmart locations will accept donations from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

In partnership with Escambia County Public Schools, Santa Rosa County District Schools, WEAR Cares, Cat Country 98.7, News Radio 92.3, and the Pensacola News Journal, Stuff the Bus stands as the only school supplies drive endorsed by both Escambia and Santa Rosa School Districts.

“We believe every child deserves the tools they need to succeed, regardless of their circumstances,” said Laura Gilliam, President/ CEO at United Way of West Florida. “Stuff the Bus is an opportunity for the community to come together and make a meaningful difference in the lives of local students.”

If you would like to make a monetary gift or to view a complete list of requested supplies, visit www.uwwf.org/stb.

This impactful event is made possible through the generous support of our 2025 sponsors: HCA West Florida, Navy Federal Credit Union, Santa Rosa Energy Center, Florida Power and Light, Gulf Winds Credit Union, Westmark & Associates Allstate Insurance, and Publix.

With your help, we can Stuff the Bus and set our future leaders up for a successful school year.
