Qantas launches Melbourne to Ballina flight

Craving great coffee and culture? Or maybe you have family and friends who can’t wait to visit our beautiful region. Whether you’re coming or going, the travel options to Melbourne have just expanded.

Qantas has commenced direct flights between Melbourne Airport and Ballina Byron Gateway Airport. The inaugural flight arrived into Ballina on Friday 12 November, with the crew and passengers welcomed with a special water canon salute. The route will initially provide three services per week, and increase to daily throughout the high-demand summer holiday period. The service will provide start-up fares from $196 one-way. Travellers will be able to earn and use Qantas Frequent Flyer points on these new flights and enjoy Qantas' premium service, whether it’s complimentary food and drinks, baggage or access to Qantas lounges in Melbourne prior to departure. This new Qantas service is a welcome addition to Ballina Byron Gateway Airport and will provide a boost to our local economy through tourism opportunities and job creation.

NEW SERVICE

Airport Boulevard

Work on the third roundabout linking Airport Boulevard with North Creek Road is now complete and open to traffic. Access to Corks Lane is now through Airport Boulevard via either North Creek Road or Boeing Avenue. In October the first roundabout linking Southern Cross Drive to Airport Boulevard and the airport carpark was opened to traffic. However Airport Boulevard will remain closed to through traffic until the airport carpark upgrade is completed.

NEW SERVICE

Airport Terminal Upgrade

Construction works have commenced to expand the Airport Terminal to accommodate new security screening equipment and improve processing of passengers entering the departure lounge.
