phs Besafe, which offers specialist protective workwear and industrial laundry services, is seeing increasing reports of PPE being cleaned at home, in many cases along with family clothing and bedding.

“Not only is this dangerous for the employee and others that live with them, but it also poses a major risk to the business who have a legal responsibility to ensure that the PPE provided is cared for, maintained and fit for purpose,” said Derek Brown, Managing Director of phs Besafe.

The Personal Protective Equipment at Work Regulations 1992 & 2022 state that “every employer shall ensure that any personal protective equipment provided to their employees is maintained (including replaced or cleaned as appropriate) in an efficient state, in efficient working order and in good repair”.

“When employees take their PPE

home to be washed, you can no longer ensure it is being properly maintained or in good working order. You lose control of your PPE and your responsibilities,” added Derek Brown.

“Domestic washing and detergents can significantly reduce the effectiveness of specialist workwear’s protective qualities, putting employees at risk on the job.

“Home washing is not a substitute for an industrial laundry. It is unlikely to remove contaminates like oil or chemicals properly, meaning the wearer’s safety is compromised. It can also contaminate other items put in the wash with it, or after it, extending that risk to others in the home, as well as the liability of the business.”

Digital Edge Subsea

Digital Edge Subsea supplies the oil and gas industry with its digital video recording system.

The company, established more than 10 years ago, has nurtured strong customer relationships that has allowed for honest customer feedback, and this has been incorporated into the development of the Version 5 Edge DVR.

Conversations continue and now Digital Edge are pleased to be able to offer further software that will help their customers to serve their clients better.

Data Archive App

Digital Edge will soon release a data storage and back-up solution that uses an integral app within Edge architecture, to avoid needing a 3rd party app. Edge Archive handles the transfer of data from the internal DVR drives to Client storage, either on a NAS, a Raid, or a phased delivery to multiple external hard drives.

Being a Native app, the data transfer ensures that the quality of Live recordings are not impacted by a 3rd party program trying to access the same file that the DVR app is currently

using. Ensuring recorded data integrity and quality is of the highest importance.

Archive can act as a Simple data mirror of the correct internal drive data folders, or can be used to create multiple simultaneous backups of Client Deliverables. This can be done in continuous backup or a phased approach, ie. after each dive.

For more information or a demonstration of the system, contact: info@digitaledgesubsea.com or visit: www.digitaledgesubsea.com

TYDE – a brand you can trust

Over 100 years ago Thomas Dudley set up his own foundry that would one day transform the plumbing and bathroom industry. After many years of progressive growth, 2020 introduced the following strategic acquisitions that saw MasefieldBeta, McDonald Diecasting, Waterfit and Rugby Plastics join as one under the Thomas Dudley brand. Then, later that year, all Thomas Dudley Plumbing businesses merged to create TYDE which is now known as a market leading business supplying plumbing products.

Based in Dudley, West Midlands, TYDE is the home of over 6,000 trusted plumbing parts. Its team of highly skilled experts carefully innovate, design and develop a large range of products and services intended to solve customers’ problems and ultimately make life in the plumbing and heating world easier. “We are committed to UK manufacturing and our state-of-the-art facilities produce innovative plumbing supplies for installers and end-users. Our approach is to remain the place to go for high-quality, long-lasting plumbing products. OnRobot drives market growth with groundbreaking D:PLOY platform delivering unrivalled reductions in application deployment time

Delivering on its mission to break down automation barriers and bring the benefits of collaborative automation to businesses of all sizes, OnRobot has launched D:PLOY, its highly anticipated flagship platform, for worldwide availability. D:PLOY is the industry’s first automated platform for building, running, monitoring, and re-deploying collaborative applications. By automating the process of getting a robotic application up and running, D:PLOY allows complete applications to be deployed and redeployed directly on the manufacturing floor in a few simple steps, with zero programming – all within a few hours. At launch, the D:PLOY platform supports palletising, CNC machine tending, packaging, and transferring (pick-and-place) applications, with future announcements planned for additional processes.

“The D:PLOY platform and its ability to truly

democratise automation has been OnRobot’s goal from the beginning, and we have been laying the groundwork for years,” said Enrico Krog Iversen, OnRobot CEO. “Today, we offer the industry’s broadest range of tools and application solutions for every leading robot brand – all based on our ‘One System, Zero Complexity’ philosophy. Now that the building blocks are in place, we can finally launch the first version of D:PLOY, which will be a market enabler across the industry.”

D:PLOY addresses one of the industry’s greatest challenges: the shortage of skilled robotics engineers and integrators who can help smaller, less-experienced manufacturers break through existing barriers to automation.

Simon Potzkai, Robotics Sales Engineer at Alexander Bürkle, an OnRobot system integrator and a D:PLOY beta tester, said, “D:PLOY simplifies the task of building and integrating a robotic cell with an innovative approach that doesn’t require any type of programming. With the current shortage of engineers, that’s a huge advantage for integrators. By making it easier and faster for us to deploy automation, we can serve more customers and help them more quickly realise the advantages of automation. That’s a win-win for everyone.”

As an automated platform that works with many leading robot brands and can be applied to a wide range of common applications, D:PLOY can help speed up robotic adoption within the large untapped segment of small and mid-sized enterprises.

Alan Vallis, Training and Development Manager at LG Motion Ltd, an OnRobot distributor, said, “D:PLOY will make automation accessible for companies who may be a bit reluctant, whether it is related to cost or in-house skills and competences.

I think D:PLOY will demystify a lot of that.”

How D:PLOY works

D:PLOY automates many of the manual steps necessary today for building and running an application. D:PLOY automatically discovers most of the installed hardware, and generates the robot motion based on the obstacles and cell boundaries defined in the workspace. The program logic, signals exchange, event handling, and robot movement are automatically created for the entire application based on a few inputs such as workpiece attributes and pick position.

D:PLOY offers unrivalled reduction in robotic cell deployment time and complexity. For example, initial deployment of a palletising application drops from 40 hours to 4 hours, for a 90% time savings. Just as critically, when production requirements change, D:PLOY gives the flexibility to quickly re-deploy the application for new products or workpieces. Real-time monitoring improves productivity and minimises downtime.

A custom-tailored manufacturing process and inhouse design service – with CAD/CAM software and systems – means we can help clients realise a range of prototype ideas, individually cut using precision lasers for R&D testing or put into full production. Our fully-equipped tool room can

CHF technology

It’s worth considering some of the technologies that make electric process heaters and heat exchangers promising candidates for replacing traditional heaters. Heaters with Continuous Helical Flow (CHF) technology are playing a critical role in making large electric process heaters more robust and economical. CHF ensures the baffles with the heater do not exist as discrete elements, but rather as a single continuous spiral winding around the interior of the shell side of the heater. This forces the flow to be rotational and helical, resulting in an even better heat transfer coefficient per unit pressure drop. This means heaters with CHF technology such as Watlow’s HELIMAX® heat exchanger, do not have dead zones or areas with insufficient flow. As there are no disruptions to flow, fewer hotspots can develop, subsequently reducing fouling rates.

A single removable HELIMAX bundle can supply up to five megawatts of power duty range, even with a smaller footprint, than fuel-based heat exchangers. Combine this efficiency with the reduced need for maintenance to address coking, and you have a product that increases productivity even as it contributes to decarbonisation efforts.

Furthermore, it’s crucial to have fast, reliable control systems for all larger, modern heat exchangers, especially in petroleum processing, where errors can be extremely costly. Engineers are now beginning to realise two things.

Firstly, there are far more opportunities to use electric process heating systems with far fewer size constraints than energy and environmental engineers previously imagined and secondly, the control of these megawatt size heating systems is demonstrated with precise control of process and skin temperatures.

Make better moulds – Mill better, drill faster

room for error. Compounding these challenges is the pressure to keep up with the rapid pace of demand and technology.

Mould making isn’t easy. There are many intricate challenges that include: highly complex geometry with 2D and 3D features, managing a wide range of part sizes, and short lead times on small quantities and new designs with no

But there’s a way to overcome those obstacles: Do better work with technology designed specifically for complex mould making.

Our USC-M series Milling and Drilling Centres allow you to drill faster and mill better with a single machine and fewer setups. These Milling and Drilling Centres meet the challenges of milling and gundrilling all types of metals with either a single universal combination spindle or dedicated milling and drilling spindles. Utilising high performance spindles that provide exceptional rigidity and power transmission, these machines deliver high-torque milling capability for aggressive metal removal and shorter cycle times. Additionally, 5-axis positioning enables mould manufacturers to tackle complex geometries with exacting precision in a single setup.

Many manufacturers claim to provide milling and drilling in a single machine, but the truth is those hybrid machines neither mill nor drill well enough to make a significant difference in either operation. In effect, one process is an afterthought of the other. Our USC-M series, however, was designed from the beginning to be a single machine with superior milling and drilling performance and accuracy. State-ofthe-art milling technology is embedded into a machine that has the power, thrust, speed and process monitoring competitors thought would be difficult to attain, or simply not possible.

In addition to superior quality and accuracy, the pay-off for single setup milling and drilling is efficiency and an improved bottom line. Mould makers cut delivery times to their customers with faster setups and production along with reduced overall labor costs. Once they move away from mould making operations with two machines, most of our customers find they can’t afford to manufacture without a USC-M-series Milling and Drilling Centre.

The benefits of milling better and drilling faster with USC-M series machines do not stop at the spindle. There are intangible benefits as well. UNISIG USC-M series Milling and Drilling Centres allow mould manufacturers to approach their work differently and explore different approaches to mould making. With the entire manufacturing process streamlined, customers find their engineers and design teams enjoy more freedom and flexibility with the expanded capabilities. Finishing and assembly are faster because the design is more efficient, and manufacturers can do things effortlessly that were a struggle previously.

Ultimately, it’s about setting the bar high and keeping it there. UNISIG sets a standard looked up to by the competition. It’s a state-ofthe-art mindset that takes mould finishing to a new level with a machine that allows you to mill better and drill faster.

Preventing electrical erosion of bearings in EV drivetrains

NSK is currently developing a new and costeffective way of preventing electrical erosion in the drivetrains of electric vehicles (EVs).

Based on a unique method of producing a patented plastic over-moulding for deep groove ball bearings, EV manufacturers will make significant savings in comparison with expensive ‘hybrid’ bearings that feature insulating components made from ceramics.

NSK decided it was time to set about developing a solution to this long-standing erosion problem, firstly by assessing the conditions that promote electrical erosion, including: operating conditions such as load, rotational speed, temperature and lubricant viscosity; the condition of the resulting lubrication (hydrodynamic, mixed, boundary); and electrical properties like resistance (material and capacitive).

The requirement for a more cost-effective solution is pressing because the high-voltage architecture of EVs is about to change from the 400V systems that are dominant today, to 800V. The latter will potentially command 50% of the market as soon as 2030, which will simply double the issue and require even better protection measures for bearings.

NSK is therefore proposing the use of a plastic over-moulding made from a high-performance PPS (polyphenylene sulphide) polymer that offers high resistance against heat and a large variety of chemicals, as well as stable electrical and mechanical performance (even at temperatures up to 150°C). In addition, the material provides a low level of water absorption, unlike many other polymer types, ensuring dimensional stability. Comprehensive NSK tests reveal the performance of the over-moulded bearings in comparison with the company’s standard bearings. For example, at 24V voltage and 15kHz frequency, standard bearings showed clear electrical erosion of the inner and outer rings. In contrast, the new NSK over-moulded bearings demonstrated no evidence of this phenomenon. The same outcome resulted at various rotational speeds. www.nskeurope.com

The warning was given against the backdrop that energy conditions have improved since the price peak in August, with prices continuing to decrease.

With the UK government offering energy price cap support to both domestic and non-domestic consumers, businesses can better plan for the future, with the price cap in place for the next six months, capping wholesale costs only. It is therefore crucial that businesses avoid deemed rates which are likely to be significantly higher and uncertain.

Net-zero decision-making

Unprecedented increases in energy within the UK market

have rapidly advanced the case for net-zero solutions. The Prime Minister echoed this, stating that, “In the meantime, companies with wherewithal need to be looking for ways they can improve energy efficiency and increase direct energy generation.”

The Advantage Utilities report offers practical support through outlining three key factors which determine responses of businesses when considering different technologies. These are: economic savings, environmental benefits, resource allocation.

Davis and Moore

Founded

in 1981 in Greater Manchester, Davis and Moore Ltd has continually forged ahead, often in difficult market conditions, to become recognised as the UK’s premier manufacturer and distributor of Cleaning Rags and Wipers.

With the rise in affluence and the corresponding change in consumer habits, we are seeing a dramatic increase in clothing waste which is leading to a massive increase in end-of-life clothing becoming landfill.

At Davis & Moore, we are working to help reduce clothing waste by recycling thousands of tonnes of these textiles each year. Our processes not only give these textiles a further practical use but are also extremely low energy and environmentally sustainable alternatives to non-woven products. In comparison the manufacturing process for non-woven wipers consumes vast amounts of energy releasing tonnes of carbon emissions into the atmosphere. Davis & Moore are continuing to source, where possible, from UK clothing graders, actively trying to reduce the amount of end-of-life clothing and textiles that are being dumped and becoming a major issue in Asia and Africa.

Every industry, be it in the UK or worldwide, utilises Textile Rag Wipers for performing cleaning or maintenance functions on machinery or equipment and here at Davis & Moore we have the right product for the correct application so why not contact us and discuss your requirements today.

RWM success for EE Ingleton Engineering

RWM 2022 was a watershed event for EE Ingleton Engineering, the Sheffieldbased engineering company which manufactures high quality hardened granulator screens and wear plates for plastic and rubber recycling applications.

After being in business for almost 50 years, it was its first exhibition and four months after the show closed its doors, has proved a roaring success. Several new customers are now on board

longer lifespan. After collecting clothes from households, schools and textile banks the company categorises clothing into further reuse or distribute to other end-users.

Second-hand clothing suppliers will buy materials and even end of life garments can be

recycled into wipers, cloths and mattress fillers.

With textile collection banks across the country and an operational textile bank on site Pink Elephant is challenging businesses and households to rethink clothing recycling. With textile banks available to rent the company has thrown down the gauntlet.

By using renewable forms of energy, it is possible to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels, and wood pellets are one of the best sources of renewable energy when harvested from sustainably managed forests. Additionally, by repurposing commercial and industrial waste into alternative fuels and recycled components for reuse, we can reduce waste emissions that contribute to global warming.

With over 350 reference plants, ANDRITZ is a global leader in biofuel and bio-waste pelleting technology, producing more than 50% of all biofuel pellets worldwide. The amount of CO2neutral fuel produced with equipment from ANDRITZ replaces almost five million tons of oil per year.

A&G Toseland Ltd

A&G Toseland Ltd is experiencing unprecedented demand for its range of POR Micucci hydraulic briquetting machines.

Demand has been stimulated by a combination of two factors; the huge increase in the cost of energy and the ever increasing cost of waste disposal. For example, a briquetting machine, combined with a wood waste burning industrial heating system, will offer the user the combined benefit of big reductions in waste disposal costs and an additional very low cost fuel source.

The POR biomass range of equipment is comprised of eight briquetting machines, starting with the Junior machine capable of processing 50kg per hour up to the Super Oscar machine, at the upper end of the range, which is able to process 400kg of waste per hour.

In addition to the standard briquetting machines, POR also produces the Metalbrick range. As the name suggests these machines have been designed to process metal swarf. The Metalbrick line will both shred and briquette swarf from the turnings

approximately 27 metres per minute, visitors were more than impressed to see such a powerful machine live in action at the show.

of high value alloys such as Aluminium. Briquetting this type of material has the benefit of reducing handling and transport costs and greatly increasing the value of the waste stream, as introducing a solid briquette for re-smelting is far more efficient in both yield and energy consumption. The three Metalbrick machines in the range also collect waste cutting fluids from the swarf in recovery tanks for re-use. george@briquettetech.com www.briquettetech.com

CPL Activated Carbons

TheCPL Activated Carbons team had a great couple of days at the RWM show at the NEC back in September.

With a 7m tall VOCSorber® mobile carbon filter located on our stand, we certainly attracted a good number of visitors to our corner of Hall 20.

We were also pleased to be invited to make a presentation at the EfW Theatre, right next to our stand, where we were able to give visitors an introduction to activated carbon purification technology and its many applications in the recycling and waste management sector. These applications include biogas purification, flue gas treatment and the abatement of odours and VOCs at waste transfer stations.

It was also a great opportunity to explain the environmental and economic benefits of spent carbon reactivation, which takes place at our site in Immingham. As the business goes from strength to strength, the RWM show also allowed us to announce that we are recruiting for a Sales Manager role here in the UK, to drive forward our carbon and service business, in particular the rental of our AquaSorber® and VOCSorber® mobile carbon filter systems. The Big Sustainability Expo

Suppliers and decision-makers from across the country once again headed to Hampshire this September for one of the UK’s leading events dedicated to corporate sustainability and the drive to net zero.

The Southern Sustainability Partnership opened The Big Sustainability Expo (Southampton) for the 7th year. A leading UK platform designed to highlight the importance of corporate sustainability and the drive towards net zero. Showcasing one of the most comprehensive line-ups of products, services,

technologies, innovations, and experts making their mark today. A vital, free-to-attend resource, the Expo offered practical advice and solutions from over 100 different exhibitors and across two Keynote speaker theatres.

Introducing an award-winning & BSI Associate Carbon Partner: Plannet Zero

At Plannet Zero, we provide a carbon advisory, consultative service and support to several companies and organisations, who are on their pathway to net zero.

A common concern for our clients is that the footprinting process is lengthy and confusing. Following that, concerns around greenwashing make them over cautious about using offsets to tackle their carbon footprint. This means that they often end up doing nothing at all.

Our approach is simple. We take our time to understand our clients’ business operations to provide tailored routes to decarbonisation. Educating our clients on the role of carbon markets gives them the confidence to tackle this challenge facing us all.

Richard Walley, Business Support Manager with Marsh Finance Ltd, explains the partnership impact, “During the last 15 months we have worked closely with

Hillhead 2022: Back with a bang

Celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, Hillhead 2022 – the quarrying industry extravaganza – welcomed almost 18,500 trade visitors and an unprecedented 604 exhibitors across three show days.

With an impressive total of just under 18,500 unique visitors in attendance and more than 600 of the world’s leading equipment manufacturers, suppliers and service providers taking part, this year’s Hillhead exhibition –held from 21-23 June 2022 at Tarmac’s Hillhead Quarry, near Buxton, Derbyshire – once again cemented its status as the world’s biggest working quarry event for the mineral products, construction, & recycling sectors.

It was very much back to face-to-face business at Hillhead 2022, as exhibitors and visitors alike took the opportunity to connect with their industry peers, take the pulse of what’s happening, and marvel at the plethora of live machinery action that took place in the show’s four dedicated demonstration areas.

Following the trials and tribulations of the past 18 months for the events sector, and a gap of four years since the last Hillhead show took place, this year’s eagerly anticipated event was very much well received, with every square metre of exhibit space – including a new look extended Registration pavilion and tweaked layout at the top of the showground – completely sold out before its official opening.

Anaconda Equipment on display

Anaconda Equipment was excited to return to Hillhead 2022! Anaconda was located at booth T1 and exhibited alongside the McLanahan Corporation. It was exciting to be back where visitors can be welcomed to the stand and shown the latest solutions for the quarrying, mining, and material handling industries. From 2020 Anaconda has been supplying a full product line of crushing, screening, conveying, and washing equipment. Anaconda industry experts were on hand at the show to talk visitors through the extensive portfolio.

Asset finance: Your next option for funding

Asset finance is, for many firms a form of funding they know little about – in this article we take a closer look at the different products and why it could be the perfect option when considering your next purchase.

In short, asset finance is an alternative form of funding used by businesses to obtain the equipment they need to grow or access muchneeded cash, and gives businesses access to the equipment they need without incurring the cash flow disadvantage of an outright purchase.

Agreements can also be customised to the business’s needs, with flexibility on both the term and repayment schedule.

There are various asset finance products with a key one being refinancing or capital release, which is a proven way to make your assets work for you and release cash back into the business.

It works by the finance company purchasing the asset and financing it back to you, with

repayments calculated in line with the income the asset is expected to generate; at the end of the refinance term, you own the asset.

This offers several benefits to a business that just needs a cash injection, whether it’s for investment in business-critical assets or to use in other areas of the business – the uses are almost endless.

Funders can also look to take over a finance agreement with another provider and extend the term, ultimately reducing monthly payments and easing the pressure on cash flow.

Other examples of asset finance products are:

t Hire Purchase (HP)

t Finance lease

t Operating lease

Recycling construction waste

Many businesses working in highways construction and maintenance face challenges when disposing of their construction waste. Infrastructure services company FM Conway solves the issue responsibly and sustainably, by re-using or recycling 98% of its construction waste and treating it as a valuable resource.

Asphalt planed off the carriageway, and concrete removed from construction works, are both reprocessed and re-used in new road materials. Even sand extracted from road gullies is washed for re-use in concrete. This reduces landfill waste and vehicle movements, whilst preserving the world’s natural capital by reducing virgin aggregate usage and their associated embodied carbon.

The business, which has contracts with many London boroughs, Transport for London and National Highways, champions the use of road materials with a high recycled asphalt (RAP) content. It routinely lays material with over 70% RAP and last year resurfaced a street in Westminster with an 85% RAP material. FM Conway’s Technical Director, Mark Flint, explains, “We own two of only seven plants in the UK capable of producing asphalt

with over 70% RAP content, and we have a UKAS-accredited Technology Centre where innovative products can be designed, produced and tested.”

The company’s self-delivery philosophy means it handles all aspects of materials development, production, and delivery itself. “That enables us to get the best value out of every product,” explains Sustainability Director, Matt Tallon, who says the aim is to provide a sustainable future for roads. “We are responsibly recycling everything we can, and in doing so are able to offer road users a network that is truly sustainable.”

Pipe Systems Company of the Month

Innovative pipe supplier offers exciting new products in 2023

At Sustainability Today we like to draw attention to innovative service providers and our Company of the Month Ebero Pipe Systems exemplifies this.

Ebero Pipe Systems has a long illustrious history as expert pipe suppliers to a multitude of sectors including utilities (gas/water), smart grid/metering, high-tech fibre-optic network and rain water management. Since its inception in 1969 by Ernst Jennrich, Benno Neumann and Rolf von Kampen the company has expanded and in 1991 was taken over by current CEO, Carsten Schweneker. The company now employs over 150 workers across all operating countries alongside its UK division that formed in 2006. Richard Tooze, UK Managing Director, guides us through the company’s remit.

“We provide both current and new innovative products as well as expertise to UK contractors, designers and consultants. We aim to be a technical partner for all infrastructure, sealing systems and smart city solutions. We are also offering an innovative PE pipe jointing system from Veiga, The Geopress K system removes the need to scrape the pipe ends, use an electrofusion control box and generator or use a welding tent while achieving a huge time saving and delivering a reliable joint with ease. This system is already making a name for its self within one of the UK’s biggest water networks as a trial for new service connections. As well as alleviating the need for the electrofusion process the Geopress K does not require external approval that the joint has been installed correctly. The fitting indicators make this easy for the operator to record and report back to line managers easily.”

UK urban and rural infrastructures rely on regular supplies of water and gas for the everyday running of businesses and households. The disposal of wastewater is something we all take for granted but it is essential for safe sanitation.

A secure pipe system will provide peace of mind in these areas alongside access to emergency servicing. Ebero

Pipe Systems offer the supply, fitting, servicing

and repair aspects of these key, essential services. With freezing temperatures and hotter summers due to climate change, having a reliable pipe supply is not only essential but mandatory.

Ebero is committed to corporate social responsibility, recognising that the environment is a “finite collective commodity and is not disposable.”

With steps taken to avoid environmental hazards Ebero look for the most eco-friendly options to minimise damage. Renewable energy is the way forward with smart metering leading the way offering consumers sustainable solutions. A smart meter monitors energy consumption coupled with cost-effective financial gains. Risk of floods are a mounting concern due to flash flooding around the country and businesses are becoming increasingly proactive with building adaptions. The warehousing sector for example, requires watertight warehouses for the safe storage of goods in the event of flooding and Ebero’s pipe systems can help maintain this.

The company has taken the steps of moving to a bigger 11,000ft2 premises in Chesterfield, Derbyshire. The central location is ideal for supporting utility and construction companies all over the country. Local councils in towns and cities have increasingly requested Smart city smart grid product fittings and these can mostly be supplied within the next day. Ebero values its customers over unnecessary profit, following its economy pillar model within the corporate social responsibility as Richard explains, “Being a family business we focus on building lasting partnerships treating all customers as individuals working closely together to offer tailored solutions and accommodating the needs of today’s changing environment including some same day delivery options.”

The company was busy promoting its services across specific trade

shows throughout 2022 such as Utility Week Live in May at the Birmingham NEC and No Dig Live in September in Peterborough. The exhibition stands allowed Ebero to showcase its full pipe system range to new and existing customers.

Looking ahead to the rest of 2023 there are many exciting new products and services being launched as Richard showcases,

“We will be able to offer polyethylene pipe coils up to 180mm with some same day delivery direct from site from stock. These can be urgently required by the construction industry for time-sensitive projects.”

With innovation in mind, Ebero has been perfecting its technological products ready for the hi-tech industries.

“We are also launching our new initiative site safety imitative called ‘Mole Eye’ this is a mobile site surveillance system which is easily monitored from anywhere in the world in High Definition and real time. This is already very successful throughout our German businesses as it gives both the site personnel and management alike peace of mind their sites are safe and secure as well as best practices are been observed.

“We are also a strategic partner for Hauff Technik offering both off the shelve and bespoke solutions for pipe and cable entry sealing used widely within the UK power and data centre framework.”

Ebero is leading the way in the pipe supplier industry, with excellent customer service and knowledge. If you would like to find out more about the products, please see the details below:

Isolating process risks with converted containers

It comes as no surprise that many processes come with inherent risks.

Containing process risks to a specific location minimises the number of people in contact with these hazards. One way to achieve this is to isolate the risk by housing process developments away from the main site. Hazardous processes can easily be isolated using a converted shipping container. A converted container keeps the entire process self-contained, enabling remote management and enclosing potential hazards within a purpose-built unit.

With decades of experience in project management and extensive shipping container conversion expertise, S Jones

Containers can design & fabricate bespoke containerised units with risk mitigation considered at every stage.

For chemical hazards, consider units with bunded floors, louvered vents, and ceiling suspended steel shelving. We include everything necessary to ensure your container is COSHH compliant with minimised risk to personnel.

Flammable materials, or processes that need electrical points, create fire risks. Following the ATEX directives, installing explosion protection modifications, and correctly storing flammable materials greatly reduces potential damage. We can help you achieve this with a purpose-built container unit, as well as adding emergency lighting or fire alarm systems should a fire break out.

Warehouse & Logistics

Howard Tenens Logistics collaborates with Mars

Howard Tenens Logistics is proud to announce the further expansion of its

Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) strategy to now include fleets based in Andover, Swindon, Boston, Ashby, and Manchester.

The move to HVO is part of Howard Tenens Logistics’ strategy to work with its customers to drive down carbon emissions and help speed up the journey to Net Zero. By switching to HVO, the HGVs will emit 92% less carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) emissions than when running on retail diesel (calculated on a well-to-wheel basis).

One of the key customers involved at the Boston site, Mars, is taking positive action across its business as it seeks to reduce its environmental impact through its Sustainable in a Generation Plan. Mars has committed to reduce total (greenhouse gas) GHG emissions across its value chain by 27% by 2025 and achieve Net Zero by 2050 (from 2015 levels).

Darren Mackintosh, European Supply Chain IE, at Mars commented, “We cannot achieve our Net Zero commitment without collaborating with our suppliers or embracing new technology, and this is a great example of both. Test, Measurement & Laboratory

The world leader in force measurement

reasonably expected.”

Interface Force Measurement Solutions (Interface) is a UK company specialising in the supply and distribution of high-quality sensors and associated electronics and displays for a wide variety of industries. Working previously with clients such as Airbus, BAE Systems, and Formula One Teams, we spoke with Tony Rokins, Business Development & Pressure Mapping Specialist, who explained some of the companies well known products.

“Our product portfolio is applicable to many industries. For instance, we are well known for our high-quality pressure mapping systems that are used by many of our automotive and motorsport customers. Our sensors deliver highly accurate, repeatable measurements and many of our load cells are used by calibration houses as calibration reference devices. Our high-quality, yet competitively priced 3 and 6 axis load cells are used for many R&D, renewable energy and robotic applications.” Reflecting on last year, Interface has faced much adversity from COVID-19. Fortunately, its sturdy business model and reliable service has enabled the company to pick up the pace and continue projects that were left postponed. “Trading conditions have been tough, but business levels picked up strongly towards the end of the year. I think we came out of it stronger than we could have

In terms of recent developments, Tony continued, “We’ve taken some time to review our business model, how we operate on a day-to-day basis. Being responsive to our customer’s needs and being able to offer a high-quality product with strong product knowledge at a competitive price with the best possible lead times is our number one priority.”

2021 also welcomed the launch of the G-Series Load Cells. The range comprises of miniature and small sensors for industrial applications, with capacities starting from just 4.5N Newton up to 200kN with metric threads.

“These are high-performance devices but aimed at more cost-conscious applications. This is a new market for us, but we are seeing increasing interest. We have launched an e-commerce website at: store.interfaceforce.co.uk – competitive pricing and availability from stock will be key to this new venture’s success,” stated Tony.

In the future, Interface is keen to continue its growth trajectory for 2023. We asked Tony

how he felt receiving the award and what their plans are going forward, he answered, “We work hard for our customers to offer the best measurement solutions. The recognition is greatly appreciated. Long term, we are strengthening our position with our customers in our more traditional markets of aerospace, automotive, motorsport, Universities and alternative energy research.

“We are also working on new, wireless force and vibration sensors for remote monitoring in systems such as luggage carousels. One more area we are pushing for growth is with XSensor’s pressure mapping systems, particularly in the Hi-speed systems designed for highspeed impact or crash testing and tire footprint research. These systems are capable of capturing data up to 2,500 frames per second. The tire sensor can be driven over at speeds of up to 140kph. I believe this is a unique capability we can bring to the industry.”

How to make hybrid selling work

Richard Higham (pictured), marketing and sales director of the SalesFitness Group, shares how to adapt sales strategies for optimal results in a changing work environment.

Selling in a world of hybrid work needs a different approach. The pre-COVID sales model based on face-to-face meetings was replaced by remote selling during lockdown. Today’s sales approach needs to apply the best of both approaches in a new and thoughtful way.

Here are our ten top tips to make hybrid selling work:

1. Lift sales activity.

One of the opportunities of the hybrid sales approach is to increase the overall number of contacts with a customer portfolio by mixing physical visits and remote contacts.

2. Adjust the contact modes and frequencies by mixing face-to-face and remote selling. Reviewing the sales process and deciding on the stages that require a virtual approach and those where it is more relevant to focus on a face-to-face approach is vital.

3. Combine marketing and sales. The battle between marketing and sales is a classic and adverse scenario. However, is it acceptable to allow these teams to continue to have their own agendas in today's changing world?

4. Define new activity monitoring indicators.

Before these changes, obtaining reliable information on salespeople’s activity took a lot of work. Remote selling makes metrics more reliable. Some existing KPIs remain essential; others are newer, and all are important to measure performance and deduce what should be done

to improve performance.

5. Bring more added value during face-to-face visits. If the frequency of face-to-face visits drops, it is necessary to ensure that each visit brings substantial added value to the customer. This will require betterprepared visits, more structured visits, and visits that will produce results.

6. Guarantee quality remote interactions. There is no shortage of videoconferencing tools: Zoom, Skype, Microsoft Teams, and Gotomeeting. They are all powerful and easy to use with a bit of practice. The important thing is to be familiar enough with the tools to avoid fear because, as everyone knows, fear paralyses, which is not recommended in sales!

7. Recruit salespeople with the right profile. It has become unthinkable to be commercially effective without mastering virtual selling. It is, therefore, necessary to revisit the profile of the recruits you are seeking, to hold onto what makes sense but identify the new skills needed for tomorrow’s success.

8. Change culture by encouraging your managers to manage in blended mode.

It is more than an evolution. It is a profound transformation, with new tools, new skills, and new processes. Management must provide the impetus and maintain the desire.

9. Use of digital selling tools.

In this hybrid world, it is essential to use the right digital selling tools, including CRM sales forecasting, remote coaching, interactive learning and content creation and curation.

10. Status of online purchasing. Online purchasing is a must in this changing world of sales. Remember to consider dynamic pricing and keep an eye on what your competitors are doing. The opportunities online selling presents will repay your investment.

Social enterprise delights schoolchildren with immersive digital technology

Language. now>press>play works to develop their language acquisition around the work being completed in class. The auditory and kinaesthetic elements of the Experiences allow our SEND pupils to engage in learning along with their peers, which they might otherwise have found difficult.”

The company works with 600 Primary Schools and over 170,000 children across the UK. The statistics are overwhelmingly positive. 95% of staff say the programme has built student knowledge, improved attainment, sharpened focus and significantly reduced teacher workload, The programme has scored an astonishing 4.9/5 on teacher EdTech Impact reviews.

Business & Industry Today is always delighted to recognise innovation in the education sector and this month’s Company Of The Month Award goes to now>press>play for outstanding digital technology. now>press>play is a multi-award winning educational resource company based in Hackney London. They have created exciting immersive, sound Experiences for EYFS, KS1 and KS2 primary school children. During the immersive Experiences, children wear wireless headphones and enter new worlds from The Great Fire of London in 1666 (KS1) to the life of evacuees during World War II (KS2.) This pioneering educational tool introduces children to experiential learning through story, sound and movement.

Alice Lacey, CEO & Co-Founder, tells the wonderful heart-warming story of how the company formed, “now>press>play is an award-winning social enterprise, founded in 2012 by three friends – a composer, a theatre director and a social entrepreneur – who love learning through new experiences. They soon discovered they weren’t alone.”

Alice tells us why school children love the programme, “In each one of our Experiences every child is given a pair of wireless headphones. Immersed in sound they become the main character in a story meeting people, discovering places and solving problems on an educational adventure they’ll never forget.”

Mapped to The National Curriculum the Experiences match several subjects including Maths, literacy, RE, PSHE, Science, History and Geography. The Experiences can be enjoyed as a whole class learning activity to smaller intervention work for children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) or English as an additional language. The maths and literacy Experiences have differentiated worksheets to help those pupils working at a lower level.

Sunning Hill Primary School has used the technology since 2018 and has found the programme has had a positive impact, “Our school has a high percentage of pupils with English as an Additional

Many children look forward to the Experiences like they would a school trip. This unique approach to learning allows children to simultaneously experience storytelling, historical events and consolidate learning through kinaesthetic – physical learning.

Alice explains why now>press>play is so popular amongst schoolchildren and teachers across the UK, “Our child-centred and experiential approach to learning increases engagement, extends life experiences, improves discussion skills and inspires quality writing while being overwhelmingly used as a whole class activity.”

Schools can buy an annual subscription that includes 80+ Experiences mapped to The National Curriculum. The school receives a class set of

of COVID-19. Teachers have remarked that children benefit from team-working through the immersive experiences. Many of the more sensitive topics in personal, social, health and economic education (PSHE) are covered such as bullying and talking about feelings. Pupils are deftly and sensitively carried through immersive experiences exploring feelings and learning when, how and ask for help with difficult experiences. Jess has welcomed the programme to help pupils with their wellbeing.

Storytelling is primeval providing a instinctual learning environment. Jess explains the power of storytelling, “I had personally researched the fact that children often remember more when they learn through stories. now>press>play enables a topic to be taught not only through listening to a story but actually being a part of it.”

wireless headphones, comprehensive staff training on the programme and a dedicated online manager for technical support.

This pioneering digital technology has been recognised by the educational sector. This year the company received Highly Commended in the app category of The Teach Primary awards and in 2019 they were delighted to receive the Best Digital Device BETT Award. The BETT awards are known as the Oscars in the educational world! Not content with winning that coveted award the company won the Best Resource Award by Educational Resource Awards in 2020.

now>press>play is a certified Artsmark and National Literacy Trust partner. Artsmark is recognised by The Arts Council England for commitment to high quality arts and cultural education. By partnering with The National Literacy Trust the company has additionally pledged support to improve the literacy levels of schoolchildren across the country.

Many schools implemented now>press>play into curriculums following the COVID-19 pandemic. Noticing a gap in learning schools used COVID recovery catch-up funding or pupil premium to pay for an annual subscription.

Jess Robertson, Assistant Principal at John Wheeldon Primary Academy, explains why her school chose to use the programme, “Following lockdown, high-quality learning had been very sporadic at home, and many children had lost their ‘love of learning’ as well as stamina and ability to remember key information. We particularly felt that our pupil premium children would be missing out on the fact that school trips were cancelled, and we were somewhat limited with the experiences we could provide in school.”

The mental health benefits of the immersive technology are well documented helping children recover from the loneliness and isolation

Allowing children to become part of the story viscerally takes away any additional stresses around literacy. Jess adds, “Children find themselves ‘immersed’ within the story they are listening to. The barriers of reading and writing are taken away, and children can focus purely on the content of the story to develop their understanding.” now>press>play is constantly developing and improving its innovative digital technology. Over this academic year (2022/2023) new Experiences and resources have been launched. These include Guy Fawkes (KS1) and Climate Crisis (KS2) as well as the follow-on guide Recap, Discuss and Quiz.

Business and Industry Today are delighted to award now>press>play the Company Of The Month Award for offering schoolchildren a much needed inspirational immersive experiential learning experience! Contact now>press>play today for a free two week trial for your school or nursery.
