With the 2022 season starting very early in Bedfordshire in February, the Bagshaws on site sales team have seen a fantastically busy year in both the specialist on site machinery division and the pedigree cattle sales.

2022 started in the frost with a journey to Newport Pagnell on the Buckinghamshire/Bedfordshire border with the star of the show being a Merlo TF 33-70 Telehandler achieving £32,000 and a wellkept John Deere 6126M c/w Loader at £44,200.
The post covid rush to purchase genuine dispersal kit in our region has borne many fruits for the 2022 vendors, particularly those who had well kept and little used kit with the old adage of “quality always sells”, never been truer.
At the early March dispersal on behalf of Gordon and Barbara Cresswell at Atlow in the centre of our region, Massey Ferguson tractors topped to £28,200 for an MF 5445 (10 Plate-only 2,560 hours owned from new), with the top call of the day being a Kramer Allrad 750T Teleboom Handler (13 Plate-5,000 hours) at a superb £31,000.
A journey into Nottinghamshire for the retirement of Mr Richard Green in mid-March saw a very diverse range of equipment including some superb irrigation items and rain guns together with
excellent New Holland and JCB equipment.
At this event an RM Engineering Self-Propelled Mobile Pump Unit c/w 4 Cylinder JCB Engine achieved £13,000, with Twin Axle Briggs 110/470 Irrigation Reels Up to £18,200 and a 10,500 Litre Hutchinson Twin Axle Trailed Water Bowser at an eye watering £19,100.
On the subject of eye watering, Richard Green’s JCB 530-670 Agri-Super Telehandler showing just 2,600 hours was purchased by a local farmer at £58,300.

The large number of lots at over 600 at Lower Castle Hayes Farm, Needwood on behalf of the Smith Family saw their Case 150 Puma with 50K Gearbox achieve £57,000 and their superbly kept Honda TRX 500 Quad with only 575 work hours on reaching a superb £7,000. Bagshaws team has become well known for their abilities to sell 4WD vehicles particularly Land Rovers, Navaras and Rangers with the Smith Family’s Ford Ranger Wildtrak (in burnt orange-having undertaken only 53,000 miles) making £17,000.

Late March saw a large arable selection at Ingestre Manor with the superb Claas Lexion 550 Combine (showing only 905 work hours) at £78,000. The JCB 4220 Fastrac (18 Plate-1,900 hours) at £96,000 to a Wiltshire famer and the John Deere 5430i Self Propelled Sprayer at £65,200 to travel into Yorkshire.
Auctions really do work for a wide variety of equipment and collectables together with stone troughs and other vintage/classic equipment. This has seen very keen bidding throughout the 2022 season at various sales throughout Staffordshire and Derbyshire, the team has had large stone troughs up to £2,000, large cast horse water troughs up to £2,000 and copper plated milk churns up to £220 each.
Prudent advertising and the ability to market dispersal items to best effect is fundamental to maximise value on any sale or retirement. The successful season has seen purchasers from Ireland, Europe and Scotland together with
a full compliment of local and surrounding county buyers. At the dispersal sale on behalf of the Dore Family at Stockley Hill Farm near Palterton (close to the M1) a farmer from County Durham purchased the superb 16 Ton Esme Mobile Grain Dryer for £23,400 while the farms Fermec 860 4WD Digger Loader went to a West Yorkshire Haulage Contractor at £19,000. Within only a few weeks, into mid-June at the Coleshill dispersal saw another grain dryer hit the highlights with a Master Super 120/12 Mobile Dryer having seen little work achieving £23,500 to travel into Yorkshire.
Classics and Collectables have been trendy for many seasons an example being a rare Massey Ferguson 35X Multi Power sold on behalf of Steve Webb in July banking £8,500. Other classics include Massey Ferguson 135 c/w Loader and Duncan Cab (old G Reg) £5,000 at Marston Montgomery in Derbyshire and a superb Salop Tipping Trailer from the 1970’s c/w Grain Sides and Bale Ladders for a massive £3,050 for a retiring Derbyshire vendor.
One of the highlights of the year must obviously be the Weaver Farm dispersal on behalf of the Harvey family, which attracted bidders from throughout Europe and into Ireland with both online and on site bidding available throughout the day.
Top call on the day was £80,200 for the JCB 8330 Fastrac (17 Plate) to be sold into Yorkshire and £65,000 for a Fendt 724 Profi Plus 4WD (55 Plate), to be purchased by a Derbyshire trader. The sale saw interest detailed above into Ireland etc with the JCB TM320S AgriTelehandler (on a 15 Plate) at £40,700. A feature of this sale had to be the Trailers and FYM Spreaders with Four-Redrock 20 Ton Trailers ranging from £20,070-£23,000 and two very smart Bunning Low Lander Rear Discharge Spreaders at £21,800 (105 Model) and £23,600 for the 120 model.

“What a fantastic season!”
