BWF PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE:
YONEX DENMARK OPEN PRESENTED BY DANISA 18-23 OCTOBER 2016 Dear Colleagues and Friends ‘Velkommen til Odense’ and to another edition of the Yonex Denmark Open presented by Danisa! First, may I say warm congratulations to Badminton Denmark for the two medals won at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. I was thrilled to see Christinna Pedersen and Kamilla Rytter Juhl and Viktor Axelsen on the podium. It’s certainly a great moment for the country and evidence that Denmark proudly stands among the foremost nations in badminton in such a competitive period. Coupled with the Thomas Cup victory in May, this is surely one of the best years in Danish badminton history. It is hard to imagine bettering these achievements. Yet, with the Yonex Denmark Open presented by Danisa coming up, there’s a wonderful opportunity to give home fans a lot to cheer about. Denmark now has a balanced squad, with experienced stars supported by talented youth. This competitiveness of the hosts will certainly create extra buzz – although it goes without saying that home fans will applaud equally for overseas players as well. The Yonex Denmark Open presented by Danisa is one of the best-run events in our MetLife BWF World Superseries circuit and due credit must go to all organisers, volunteers and sponsors. Odense City of
course has been a gracious host over many years and its charms is well known. I’m sure all the visiting players and officials will enjoy themselves, especially given the lovely hospitality. As we look forward to another week of amazing action, I would like to wish all athletes the very best in this event.
