2014 Pan American Badminton Championships
October 1, 2014 On behalf of the badminton community across Canada, welcome and enjoy the Mandarin Pan Am Badminton Championships! The Mandarin Pan Am Badminton Championships will offer an excellent opportunity for the players, coaches and fans alike to enjoy and new Markham Pan Am Centre. This wonderful facility will be used to host the badminton competition at the 2015 Pan Am Games and is an outstanding legacy for our sport and the community. From October 13th to the 19th Badminton Pan Am will be celebrating the 2014 Championships in Markham and this represents an excellent opportunity to profile our sport. Badminton Canada is please to host many of the top players in the world and will look to continue our previous strong performances at this event. Canada will be proudly represented by local players such as Nyl Yakura, Kevin Li, Brittney Tam and 2014 Commonwealth Games Gold Medalist Michelle Li to name a few. Osleni is currently the highest world ranked (#47) Men’s Singles player from the Pan American region. He made history in 2013 when he became the first Cuban to win Gold at the Pan Am badminton championships in any event, winning the Men’s Singles title over Sattawat Pongnairat of the USA. Osleni will be looking to defend that title here in Markham.

Kevin and Osleni have played many times over the years, with Kevin holding a 5-2 edge. Osleni will be looking to hold his #1 place in Pan America with a good showing in Markham. Le 1er octobre 2014 Au nom de la communauté du badminton de partout au Canada, nous vous souhaitons la bienvenue au Championnat panaméricain de badminton Mandarin! Le Championnat panaméricain de badminton Mandarin offrira une excellente occasion pour les joueurs, les entraîneurs et les amateurs d’apprécier le nouveau Centre panaméricain de Markham. Ce merveilleux établissement sera utilisé pour organiser la compétition de badminton aux Jeux panaméricains 2015 et représente un héritage durable pour notre sport et pour la communauté. Du 13 au 19 octobre, la Confédération panaméricaine de badminton célébrera son championnat 2014 à Markham et il s’agira d’une occasion en or pour promouvoir notre sport. Badminton Canada est ravie d’accueillir plusieurs des meilleurs joueurs au monde et nous espérons voir d’autres excellentes performances de la part de nos athlètes à ce tournoi. Kevin est l’un des joueurs de simple hommes les plus accomplis de la zone Pan Américaine. Kevin a remporté les Championnats Pan Américains de 2012 en simple hommes, mais a été incapable de défendre son titre en 2013 après avoir subi une sérieuse blessure au genou en avril 2013. Dans l’épreuve de simple homme, Kevin a remporté l’Or aux Jeux Pan Américains de 2011 à Guadalajara, au Mexique, avec une victoire sur Osleni Guerrero de Cuba et a remporté la médaille d’argent en 2007, en perdant contre le Canadien Mike

fait de lui un des 25 meilleurs joueurs classés au monde en simple hommes. En 2014, il a remporté des tournois au Brésil, en Argentine et au Chili et tentera de poursuivre sur sa lancée à Markham.
