Backup IMAP tool

Page 1

Can users backup IMAP email with open source solutions? In the very initial phase of software development and application by end users, many used open source software. It was okay also as the digitalisation was not extensive. Cyber threats and thefts were uncommon phenomena. But as the digitalisation has become extensive and our sensitive data stays in mailboxes, all the users need to rethink their backup and recovery strategy. Open source tools can no longer serve the purpose as they were never meant for large scale use for practical purposes. Those are more like a test to see how well or not so well a particular application works. Further updates, improvements, or shelving depends on that.

For such IMAP backup tools, no one stands up and takes responsibility when a user needs help or faces some issue. Some volunteer may come forward but would you really want to be open to the idea of exposing your data or device? There are legal issues like the ones related to ownership. The codes can be changed and misused as well. So, for serious work, these no longer remain a viable option.

Where and how the free tools fail for IMAP backup?
