From birth gift to absolute must-have objects for any kid’s room

Atelier Pierre Junior is the most recent initiative from Vanhalst. It is a young collection of fresh, playful contemporary ‘living accessories’ for your interior and kid’s room.

The story of AP Junior starts when Lieven Vanhalst and Jenny Larridon settled down in Izegem, to establish a pastry shop. They knew very little people in this town and decided to add birth gifts and dragees to their range. Young people very rapidly found their way to the pastry and birth gift shop. In the 90’s the shop evolved into a wholesale business for wedding, birth or any other small party gifts.

Creative entrepreneurship is essential to the Vanhalst-Larridon family. Consequently, Jenny and Lieven passed on this tradition to their children. Sophie and Frank joined the business early 2000. Both of them brought their own fresh ideas to the family business. They sold the remaining retail activities and established bb collections® in 2002. The brand represents the transition from traditional wholesale to consumer focussed product development. As from that year, Vanhalst started to create their own ranges of small gifts under the bb collections umbrella, focussing on the birth and wedding gifts market in Belgium.

In 2015 Vanhalst introduced Atelier Pierre accessing the international market of ‘living accessories’ offering young Belgian designers a platform to create their first range. Entering the international stage for the first time, new customers rapidly showed interest in the cute, fresh and playful designs from the Vanhalst creative team. Hence the fundamentals for an Atelier Pierre Junior collection. Next to miffy, AP Junior presents César, Balthazar and several more characters, too cute to handle. Atelier Pierre Junior is already an absolute must-have collection.

A dynamic Belgian design team Today you can find Atelier Pierre Junior objects in several hotspots all over the world, such as MoMA Design Store in New York, Homeless in Hong Kong or Womb in Paris. AP Junior objects are also available in refreshing Belgian concept stores, interior design or kids gift shops.

AP Junior is the result of a collaboration between a team of enthusiastic Belgian designers and their creative director Sophie Vanhalst. You can find the dream team browsing international fairs or glued to magazines (or their smartphones) looking for inspiration. They manage the complete process from concept development to 3D modelling, working towards affordable, contemporary, unique objects or ‘living accessories’ for your interior and kid’s room, with a touch of tradition and playfulness.

In 2009, the Vanhalst company building was awarded the ‘Quality Industrial Buildings of West Flanders’ certification mark. The Vanhalst family values are clearly reflected in the design of the building. Not only creativity, simplicity, and functionality are important, there is also a focus on consideration for people, environment, budget and tradition.

In order to emphasize the extent of their involvement, Vanhalst also signed the ‘West Flemish Charter for Sustainable Enterprise’. For this, a company voluntarily commits to work proactively on specific topics. This charter is a tool which allows to add structure to a sustainable enterprise policy, and it is the driving force for a continuous improvement of environmental, social, and economic achievements. As part of this program, Vanhalst planted 1.000 trees on company grounds in 2013.

Vanhalst installed an outdoor meeting room and gathering place amidst the trees in 2017, a perfect illustration of the respectful entrepreneurship the company stands for.

miffy Miffy was «born» in 1955.

While on holiday in Egmond aan Zee, Dick Bruna would tell his eldest son, Sierk, bedtime stories about a little, white bunny, who scampered around the garden of their holiday home. This bunny became the inspiration for miffy.

Later, when Dick began sketching miffy, he decided he would prefer to draw the bunny in a little dress, rather than a pair of trousers, and so miffy became a little girl bunny.

Now she can live in your home as a money bank, decorate any room or nursery while saving some money for later. Miffy can also walk around with you as key chain.
