that, in 1956, Balmain presented its Summer-Spring collection in a new and exclusive location the Tropicana Club. In the city, there was a true fashion system: one could find plenty of famous fashion houses, top models like Norka Mendez, or high-level photographers like Korda. Korda became internationally famous for his picture of Che Guevara entitled “Guerrillero Eroico”, taken in 1964. Before the ‘Revolución’, Korda entirely dedicated himself to fashion photography, leaving to us an heritage of pictures of outstanding value. In 1959, Fidel Castro’s Communist Revolution eventually triumphed in the island, blocking the expansion of the economy. In less than a year, all fashion houses in the island closed down their activities, and most of the trendsetters, models and designers left the country.
