This is a memorable day that marks not only the end of one chapter, but the exciting start of the next for hundreds of exceptional students.
Graduation is the highlight of our academic year.
It celebrates your dedication, your ambition and the hard work that has brought you to this point – and it is also a proud moment for your family, friends, tutors and supporters who have helped you reach this milestone.
At B&FC, we believe that higher education is transformative – not just for individuals, but for communities.
That is why we continue to invest in outstanding teaching, facilities and industry partnerships, ensuring that qualifications lead to real opportunities –and our triple ‘Gold’ Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) rating is testament to the quality of the experience we provide.
We are proud to work with Lancaster University – one of the UK’s top institutions – and I am delighted to welcome Sarah Kemp, Pro-ViceChancellor (Engagement), who is here today to confer your well-earned awards.
Looking to the future, we are excited to have recently begun construction on a new chapter of our own: the Multiversity.
This is an exciting new, flexible vision for the future of higher education, including a landmark campus in the heart of Blackpool. It is designed to drive opportunities, innovation and prosperity in the region and, as a new graduate, you are already part of this exciting future.

Multiversity A new concept for Higher Education
Construction has begun on B&FC’s new £65 million Multiversity campus, which is set to open to its first cohort of apprentices and students in September 2028.
This landmark project forms phase four of Blackpool Council’s £350 million Talbot Gateway regeneration programme around Blackpool North train station and has already delivered a four star Holiday Inn hotel and restaurant, improved transport interchange and a new town centre office for 1,100 Department for Work and Pensions staff.
This land was acquired with the support of a £9 million government grant as part of Blackpool’s Town Deal programme, while the project was also awarded £40 million from the UK Government in 2023.
Objectives
+ Multiversity is not just a new building, it will be a transformative Higher Education initiative: a new model of delivering HE and expanding access
to degree-level learning by integrating academic excellence, employer partnerships and flexible delivery to meet regional skills needs.
+ It will have a forward-thinking occupational curriculum aligned to real-world labour market intelligence and student demand.
+ A strong, flexible offer delivering an exceptional learning experience in inspiring, aspirational facilities using world-class technologies. Courses will be modular, stackable, accelerated and flexible, offering, for example, two-year degrees, summer study, one-day-aweek study options and work-aligned timetables.
+ A key driver for social mobility providing many (‘multi’) flexible routes into and through Higher Education, leading to highly skilled graduate occupations.
+ Delivering even stronger partnerships with local, regional and national businesses helping to influence policymakers for the benefit of the wider area.
Transformation in Blackpool
+ An asset for economic and community growth that will be home to innovation, entrepreneurship and knowledge exchange, external events and more university partnerships.
B&FC’s HE provision B&FC has been delivering HE for more than 35 years. With Foundation and Bachelor Degree awarding powers, it’s one of the largest college-based HE, Higher and Degree Apprenticeships providers in the UK – and the biggest in Lancashire. In 2025, 57% of our graduates were awarded First Class Honours –with 86% achieving a First or 2:1 overall.
In the high growth area of degree apprenticeships, 112 of 142 students received a First – and 99% attained a First or 2:1. B&FC is also rated TEF Gold for Student Experience, Outcomes and Overall (2023).
The Multiversity concept Demand shows students trending away from doing a traditional three-year degree – and incurring debt to study – towards:
+ Foundation Degrees
+ Higher and Degree Apprenticeships
+ Higher Technical Qualifications (HTQs)
The Lifelong Learning Entitlement launching in January 2027 also provides new funding opportunities to drive the
carbon neutral campus
growth of flexible shorter courses and modules, which can be added together to create stand-alone qualifications – and access lifelong learning.
The Multiversity will deliver opportunities for adults wanting part-time study, to flexibly upskill, or retrain mid-career, and learners of all ages wanting to study modules at Levels 4/5. All include access to flexible learning routes, including, for example: in-person, online, blended or hybrid, condensed timetables and accelerated degrees.
Blackpool’s need for higher skills
Only 29% of residents have a Level 4 qualification or above: the GB average is 44%.
Projected local change will see a reduction in low skills jobs at Levels 1 and 2 – and a significant increase (+50,000 roles) in occupations requiring Level 4+ qualifications.
Graduates have higher employment rates (no qualifications: 40% | Level 4+: 87%) and are more likely to lead healthier, wealthier independent lives. Graduates typically earn more: 20% by their mid-twenties and their earnings grow by 72% between 23-31, compared to 31% for non-graduates.
Power Skills Gold Awards Recognising Achievement and Growth
B&FC’s Power Skills Awards recognise the progress, effort and personal growth that underpin success in education, employment and everyday life. As part of our commitment to developing well‑rounded, future‑ready learners, the awards celebrate achievement beyond academic attainment and highlight the skills needed to thrive in a rapidly changing world.
Focusing on key transferable skills such as teamwork, problem solving, resilience and adaptability, the award process encourages learners to reflect on their development, build confidence and recognise the value of their strengths across different contexts. In doing so, it supports a deeper understanding of how these skills contribute to both personal growth and career readiness.
Achievement of the Gold Award is formally recognised on a student’s Higher Education Achievement Report (HEAR) transcript, highlighting their development as active citizens committed to professional growth. Through structured activities and reflection, students demonstrate essential employability skills, including communication, collaboration and ownership of their learning and career development.
