School is out and the weather outside is nice! What better way to spend time with the family than taking a local trip. Here are a few ideas to get you started. »LITTLE BUFFALO Just 30 minutes from the JCC via 322-W, this state park/waterpark hybrid features 8 miles of hiking trails, campgrounds, and plenty of places to have a picnic. The main attraction is its swimming pool, which has multiple slides and water play areas. Get there early if you’re going on the weekends as it fills up fast. When to Go: The park is open year-round. Let’s first start with a location close to home. With a JCC membership, you can enjoy a serene and peaceful place to relax, swim, and socialize all summer long at our very own Green Hills Swim Club! For decades, Green Hills has been a meeting point for community members of all ages. The site features a large pool, picnic tables and pavilion, concessions, hiking trails, and most of all…you and your friends and family! Be sure to come out early and often this summer. We look forward to seeing you there! And now is a great time to come see the changes, updates, and fresh look staff and volunteers have been working on for a grat summer time for all. When to go: Green Hills is open daily. Hours are as follows: Until August 10: 4 – 7:30pm weekdays, 11am – 8pm weekends & holidays, August 13 – 24: 1- 7:30pm weekdays, 11am – 8pm weekends & holidays. »HERSHEY GARDENS

»LAKE TOBIAS Did you know you can experience a thrilling safari, a reptile exhibit, and an up-close petting zoo all within a half-hour’s drive of the JCC? Lake Tobias is an exciting and affordable place to take a trip that will feel like you’ve gone halfway around the world as you come into contact with animals like the African lion, Bengal tiger, monkeys, pythons, camels, and more. Their safari exhibit is a 45-minute guided tour featuring more than 500 animals. When to go: Lake Tobias recommends visiting at alligator feeding time, around 4pm each Sunday. Green Hills Swim Club

Right down the street from Hersheypark, this lesser-known counterpart is a great way to give kids a new taste of the Chocolate City. Hershey Gardens’ 23 acres of perfectly gardened beauty is a good place to start your visit. Also on site are the Butterfly Atrium, Children’s Garden, and Educational & Horticultural Wing. The Gardens are more than 100 years old, but continue to draw a smile across generations. When to Go: Big Bands & Blooms event will be held on Friday, June 29 from 6:30pm – 8:30pm, featuring the Hershey Symphony’s Big Band. Open daily from 9AM – 6PM. Marvelous Mondays – Every Monday thru 8/13, 10am-12pm – featuring an activity, crafts, and entertainment in the Children’s Garden each week. Arts & Museums »SUSQUEHANNA ART MUSEUM Located in historic Midtown Harrisburg, the Susquehanna Art Museum is quite the tribute to artistic efforts across a number of cultures and interests. Its current main gallery exhibit features the work of Romare Bearden, who was noted by the New York Times as “the nation’s foremost collagist.” When To Go: 3rd in the Burg, July 20 & August 17 – Free admission between 5-8pm and a pianist performance from 6-8pm. »AACA MUSEUM The car museum in Hershey showcases transportation of all types dating back to the 1890s. Current exhibits featuring Mustangs and Thunderbirds complement permanent features like Whitney Houston’s limousine and the bus from Forrest Gump! More than 150 vehicles are on display for you to enjoy. When to Go: Fireworks & Fun event on July 4th from 5pm – 9pm, featuring a great view of the Hersheypark fireworks show.
