AZLE MEMORIAL LIBRARY

I am so proud of this library and community. We had a record 1,914 participants sign up for Summer Reading. That’s 223 more people than our previous sign up record! It’s incredible to see so many people of all ages reading (and reading to their little ones). I am also so thankful to the staff who helped check out and shelve the 48,437 items that were borrowed in June and July, as well as the work it took to plan and implement 79 programs for the public to attend - all while keeping the Library open for routine business. We couldn’t do it alone though, many amazing volunteers helped us shelve, sign up kiddos for Summer Reading, helped during events, and more!
If you have been to the building lately, you may have noticed a portion of the Children’s Area is blocked off. Our large puppet tree thought fall had arrived early and decided to drop two of its enormous leaves! We are leaving this area blocked off for safety reasons until the tree can be inspected and repaired. Meanwhile, the children’s toys are located on the opposite side of the Children’s Area, so families are still welcome to use the rest of the space.
Another bit of news from the Children’s Area is our introduction of Read Along books! These are similar to the old picture books that used to come with cassette tapes (I am old enough to have used those when I was little!) or CDs so kids could listen to the book as they turned the pages. The new, modern versions have a built in digital player that can be played out loud or used with headphones. If you have children ages 5+, they are a great way to encourage them to learn to read or to enhance their fun as you read with them at home. I would love to hear your feedback about anything related to our library. If you ever have comments, questions, or suggestions you can reach me by calling the library at 817-752-2682, or send me an email at cmclane@cityofazle.org. Thank you for being a part of our library!
