to you: 26 Reasons On Why I Love Her is a collection of moments and musings about romance, attraction, young love — an exploration of what it means to pursue life with someone who understands the beauty and strength in emotionality & vulnerability. this is a proclaimation to share love openly with trust in yourself and for yourself. these poems are about you & also me (about us). this is a declaration of self-love & self-respect. this is an obliteration of fear, the one thing that holds all of us back from our purest and truest potential. with love, az

ONE:

she smiles, the whole world disappears & her eyes twinkle like tiny galaxies in space.

TWO:

she walks in a way that demands respect and admiration.

THREE: when i feel like running running running, she pulls & grounds me with “how are you?”

FOUR: she doesn’t make my heart jump or skip beats — she makes my pulse stronger and more resilient.

FIVE: she is a meadow of ruby & blush cherry blossoms inhabiting the caves of Aphrodite.

SIX: she is fire. she is wind. she is Earth Earth Earth

SEVEN: we fight; we say, “i hear you”

EIGHT:

i am the truest version of myself when i’m with her: empathetic, vulnerable, maternal. she doesn’t question she doesn’t invalidate she doesn’t take advantage -

NINE: she loves openly. she hurts openly. she exists openly.

TEN:

she coats her armor with her emotionality. she is a goddess warrior.

ELEVEN:

she doesn’t push me off cliffs instead she takes my hand, & together, we look at the sky with our toes touching the edge of the mountain.

TWELVE: she is complicated, multi-layered, unpredictable. — she is spiritual

THIRTEEN: when i wake up next to her, & the sun shines on her face, i wonder what she dreams about.

FOURTEEN: she likes her coffee black (like me).

FIFTEEN: discovering every part of her loving every part of her

SIXTEEN:

she is a queen in her own ways — reigning over her mind & soul. i am all at once petrified, enamored, magnetized. — she is beautiful

SEVENTEEN: she makes romance the blurs of yellow, blue & red. she is refraction of light that i luckily caught glimpse of.

EIGHTEEN: she is the light drizzle of rain on a sunny day.

NINETEEN: when she looks at me, she illuminates the warmth of amber.

TWENTY: she smells of old spice and evening kisses.

TWENTY ONE: she is a waterfall of a being, a beauty to see, a beauty lucky enough to bear witness to.

TWENTY TWO:

she is strong-willed & stubborn, able to push against my bullshit. — i appreciate her

TWENTY THREE: she is witty & intelligent characteristics mama told me to find in a partner. — mama likes her

TWENTY FOUR: i am clearer-minded when i’m with her.

TWENTY FIVE: being too scared to say “I love you,” knowing too well that relationships I’ve exposed myself to suffocate & imprison the people i still hold close. our relationship transcends my views of what love could be.

TWENTY SIX: she asks me one morning what i dreamt about the night before: i sit at a cafe, remember her words in my slumber saying, “i love you too.”
